Okay, guys, in your opinion, what video game has be best collection of bosses/boss battles? There is, however, some criteria for this. (1) The game must feature 3 or different boss fights (a boss showing up once and then the same boss showing up later in the game doesn't count -- e.g. Bowser in Mario 64) and (2) There must be other enemies besides bosses in the game (so no Shadow of the Colossus; otherwise everyone will put that).

Any of the Final Fantasy games.

There not a single WRPG that comes close to have a okay collection of bosses most are just buff normal character.

Metal Slug had a variety of bosses. I love those games where you were EXCITED to see what boss would appear next.

Okay, one more criteria. No turn-based RPGs.

Metal Gear Solid games? They are known for notorious bosses. The BOSS was so badass in MGS3. Blew me away.

I'm not sure what you mean by "best" bosses... Difficulty? Battle design? Character design? MGS1 had some unique ones but they weren't very intense or challenging... DMC1 on the other hand blew my mind, had the volume maxed for every fight. Finally NG2 (not NGS2) on Master Ninja is easily the toughest collection of bosses since the 16 bit era

Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid 4. The boss battles are one of the highlights to the game, they always get a big build up and some are quite climatic.

Some of the best ones were Vulcan Raven in MGS. Big guy chasing you around with a minigun in a frozen warehouse shooting like crazy in a deadly game of Monster Maze. As the battle goes on the maze starts to break as bullets riddle the place and walls start to break down.

The other one I liked was Laughing Octopus in MGS4, a twisted game of hide and seek.

Another game with incredible boss fights is Resident Evil 4. They make a real meal out of each and every one of them.

I love Final Fantasy just as much as anyone, but God Of War 3 took boss fights to another level.

That team is ridiculously talented.

well, i thought NMH 1,2 has some interesting bosses. They all had their own little quirks and over the 2 games there is easily 25+ bosses. I cant think of a game that stands out because of the boss fights.

MGS3, DMC1, Bayonetta, Metroid Prime 1 and 3 (2 was just okay.), Demon's Souls had some that were really satisfying to beat, I'd say Persona 3, but you don't like RPGs, and Resident Evil 4.

BODY HARVEST! Doesn anyone else remember that game? It had the standard processor bosses after each zone which were kinda cool but then it has those epic end of the world bosses where you got to use your hover craft. It has giant scorpions, I think a praying mantis, some massive fly boss, and a lot of other giant insects.

Bayonetta, Kingdom Hearts 1/2, and it's a crime not to include turn-based RPGs, since Final Fantasy games do indeed have some epic boss fights.

Devil May Cry 3. So difficult, yet so awesome (and I never want to try beating it at any difficulty higher than normal).

  1. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
  2. Super Metroid
  3. MGS4
  4. God of War III
  5. Ocarina of Time
  6. Twilight Princess

Metroid Prime had excellent bosses. Thardus really stood out to me.

Viewtiful Joe bosses were all crazy. (These are from viewtiful joe one although 2 is just as great).

Okami

Muramasa had some pretty stylish bosses. They were basically the highlight of the game

And finally every one has got to love the bosses from Paper Mario

There are some other great examples that have already been listed. Zelda bosses are always great. I loved the bosses from No More Heroes (the first one; second one they kinda lost a lot of personality).

God of War 2, they've so many great ones in that game. Red Dead Revolver as well, something gone missing from Red Dead Redemption.

Megaman is a given from the old days.

Metroid series has always had fantastic bosses: Mother B/Kraid (Super) Meta Ridley (Prime), Quadraxis/Emperor Ing (Prime 2), Nightmare (Fusion)
Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess have amazing bosses as well.
God of War 2 was awesome, tons of bosses in that one, and the rest of the series in general.
Metal Gear series, particularly the sniper battles.
Also, just about any Platinum Games's title usually has great bosses, I really like those in MadWorld and Viewtiful Joe.

Castlevania Lords of Shadow and Darksiders had amazing boss fights. The final boss from Mass Effect 2 was epic to say the least.

RE4

Megan Man 2

FF3

Crono Trigger

I also enjoyed the boss fights for Doom 1. Mostly because I was younger, and they were scary when played in the dark.
