I find the universes of Resistance, Gears of War, Metro 2033, STALKER and Jak and Daxter to be pretty interesting For Resistance, I'm interested in the origin of the Chimera virus and what plans they were trying to pull off, cause from the looks of it seems they were trying to freeze the world and than open a portal or something so Chimera's from another planet or something could come in. I'm curious of why Chimera's have incredibly high body temperatures which requires them to wear apparatuses/coolers on their backs. Which also kind of points to why they're freezing the planet so they don't need to wear them. I wonder where they get intelligence from considering the weapons they're capable of making seem pretty advance especially in the time period the game takes place. I wonder what some Chimera's such as those giant ones which I believe are called Leviathans. What was it originally before it went Chimera and how did it get so big? For Gears of War I'm really curious considering the planet isn't Earth but has humans and earth based animals. Did humans migrate their or something? I'm curious about the history of the planet and the origin of the Locust. I notice that a lot things that they use as "weapons" are living things such as the Brumak. I wonder how they managed to control such beast and use them as weapons. It's like they're Avatars or something. The locust don't seem to be free thinkers, it would seem more realistic if there was locust shown that were against killing and torturing humans and even help them hide in safe places. How come their queen Myrrah is the only human looking one? Why do berserkers seem to be the only female locust and how come they seem to be undomesticated and incredibly overpowered. Considering the fact that the males have to chain them down and rape them since they're to wild and powerful to mate with without getting killed. I thought it was pretty stupid of the queen to just perform genocide on the humans just so they could populate the surface due to lambent locust chasing them out. Since lambent wasn't a locust only problem they clearly could of teamed up with the humans to fight off the lambent which could of gave Adam a lot more time to make a bomb that wouldn't kill the locust. Which reminds me that when the bomb went off she didn't seem affected at all by it, which makes me suspect even more that she's human. Her stupidity in wasting their resources on trying to kill all humans and take over the surface instead of trying to co operate with them lead to their own race being extinct, cause clearly if the lambent where chasing them out of the hollows what damn chances did they think have by going on to the surfaces and killing the human populations which could have helped them. Metro 2033 I was curious of what the "dark ones" did to protect themselves from other mutants. Sadly it seems that they all have been killed and Metro Last Light is going to be based off that ending. I'm curious to know what Nosalises originally, but it may be really hard to tell since there are different types of them even flying ones that use sonic screams. Anyway for other games there is STALKER and Jak and Daxter
Bioshock's universe is amazing. All the disturbing concepts, twisting story, haunting world all join together to create an unbelievably gripping world that feels plausible.
Metro 2033 universe also interests me. I have a strong fascination around the apocalyptic genre, chernobyl incident and Russian characters and their fascism, so I feel highly involved within that game, and cannot wait for the sequel.
Mass effect, Elder scrolls, Fallout, Dead space, Gears of war, Halo, and Dragon age. These universes are the most interesting and the developers all had a clear, well thought out, vision when they made these games.
Metroid, Zelda, Starcraft. ive always like the halflife series, but i dont play it anymore mostly for lack of games. I like lots of games, but those are about the only 3/4 if they didnt exist, i dont think id still be gaming.
The Fallout universe seems to be my all-time favorite as of right now. I love the dark humor, the apocalyptic esque of it all, and the overall lore. I wish there was more Fallout to come.
The Zelda universe, because of the fantasy setting, differen races and whatnot. Specifically, I'm very interested in Termina. There are still alot of mysteries surrounding it, particularly in Ikana, and I am always intrigued by it.
I'm also interested in Silent Hill, because the entire concept of the three worlds (real world, fog world, Otherworld) and how the town reflects the psyche of troubled minds is just awesome. Plus the back story about Alessa and the Order is really cool.
Mass Effect, Bioshock, Jade Empire all have/had interesting universes to me. The 1st Mass Effect created a ton of history and social and political effects as a result that had me hooked. Bioshock and Jade Empire got my attention mostly because of the colorful art direction and their also well written stories so that's a big plus.
Fallout universe is my favorite. Others that interest me Elder Scrolls, Halo, Mass Effect, Half Life, Banjo Kazooie, Kingdom Hearts, and i better just stop i could go on for a long time.
Crimson Skies. Alternate history 1930s North America where the states have broken into their own independent nations, and zeppelins subsequently have become the primary form of shipping and travel. Also, sky pirates. With planes. and zeppelins that launch planes. Seriously that is absolutely perfect. Also Fallout, minus the Fallout 3, Brotherhood of Steel and Tactics nonsense, Deus Ex (less the Invisible War stuff), MechWarrior (Battletech) and Syndicate in terms of franchise 'universes'. On a less 'fiction to the core' level games like Super / Monday Night Combat have absolutely wonderful universes.
Ivalice from Final Fantasy XII, Vagrant Story, and Final Fantasy Tactics. I love XII's setting in particular with its interesting mix of Mediterranean and Arabic culture.
Mass Effect. Although a lot of that interest is generated by the characters rather than the world itself. Although you could say the characters are part of that world.
