I've had some scandalously good deals in my time, mainly due to being poor enough to feel motivated enough to hunt 'em down.
I think that the best might have been getting Loaded for only £2, though ... that was pretty cool.
I was also happy to get Jade Cocoon 2 for £5 half a year ago, play it all the way through, then sell it for the same price about a week ago.
About 12 years ago I picked up a fabulous copy of Magical Hat Turbo Adventure for £3
It was cheap because it was a Japanese game and looked completely insane and abnormal, although as it turned out the game (a MEgadrive game) had been illegally shaved at the edges by the previous owner, enabling it not only to fit into a UK slot but even to play perfectly throughout.
The manual was a work of art, and was worth the asking price even on its' own.
While there may be raised eyebrows all round at the thought of this being 'classic' (since it is so obscure) it was a version of the oririnal Psychofox, and the western remake was Decap Attack (same game, new dire graphics and surgically-removed japanese insanity) so it's a true classic !
I played that game to death as a teenager, it was so entertaining.
:D
I guess that snagging Rule of Rose off some bloke from Germany for £15 was pretty skanky of me as well, now that I think about it.
While it was released in America fine and dandy (and is accordingly cheap as chips over there, as far as I know) the PAL version was never released and is rare as sin.....
My copy is of course, only the DVD with no official box or booklet, but versions with both were frequently clocking up £70 on Ebay when i got mine, and no others of any kind were going for less than £30.
:D and now that I know what a load of crap the gameplay is, i ought to be able to rake it in when i sell it (and by that I mean, I should at least be able to break even on it with no problem at all) - booyah !
I paid over the odds for my Paper Mario (GC version) shelling out an unusually high £20 for it.
But, to my astonishment , it increased in price rather than decreasing (like pretty much every other game in existence does other than super rare ones) so i got £30 when i sold it - quids in !
:D
i bought a few games at Goodwill the other day
-gran turismo for Ps1 for $1 (in the case, with instructions, great condition)
-thunderstrike2 for ps1 for $1
my best deal was a Gameboy Advance game:
-Classic NES series: Super Mario Bros for $5.99 (amazon.com wants $33.00+shipping)
I recently bought Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (N64) for $8.99. I also remember buying Star Fox (SNES) for something like $4.99.theman64
I was just playing THPS2 for N64 yesterday. Great game, Imo it's the best Tony Hawk game in the series. The Hangar, School II, Philadelphia, Venice Beach, Bullring, they're just all awesome levels and the game itself is hilarious.
Am I the only one that has never seen or played StarFox for SNES? I love StarFox 64, but I've never even seen a screenshot of the one for SNES? It's an awesome game I hear, I'd like to play it sometime.

Yup, THPS2 is awesome. I'm still working on unlocking The Bullring. It's amazing how addictive this game can be, even seven years after its initial release.
Star Fox is a great game, but man is it hard. I've never completed it. :o
I got the EarthBound Players Guide used at a GameStop a couple years ago for $1. It's going for about $60 on eBay now.woogity
nice
in middle school my buddy sold me actraiser, final fantasy 2 and 3, secret of evermore and chrono trigger for $50....i made out like a bandit.yentar480
that's pretty sick man secret of mana and chrono trigger individually go for what you paid total. i still cant find the snes chrono for under $50 man it's insane how much people pay for that cartridge.
On a classic game I got Final Fantasy VII brand new and sealed for like $8 from a bargain bin in an office supply store of all places. I'm guessing it might have been a pricing mistake, but who cares? At one point I had seen them going for over $100 on ebay, although I think they've come back down since then.
Best gaming deal overall, though, was when a locally-owned rental store in the building where I lived at the time went out of business. I knew the owner since I was in there at least once a week and he sold me the entire game collection for $5 each. This was still the PS2/Xbox/GameCube era so we're talking $50 retail value each. I forget exactly how many he had, but go to your local rental store and look at their game section. Now imagine you could buy the entire lot for about what you paid for one console. Sure, you'd be buying a couple of stinkers but you'd also get pretty much every game worth playing at the time, not to mention dupes of some that you could resell to recoup what you spent. I really made out like a bandit! (For those of you who might be curious, he also gave me the same deal for the DVDs.)
Well I regularly go to local car boots and markets, don't laugh.
Anyway you always get very cheap games there, depending on your luck, i gave away my ps1 and games a long time ago but ive recently started to collect them back from markets and online stores.
Anyway about 2 weeks ago i bought Guilty Gear for 25p, no book though but I actually like it so I'm keeping it.
Bought Z for 50p sold it for £19.00 on Ebay, Bought Star Ocean for 50p and I know there worth around £40.00 but I'm also keeping it for the moment, Megaman Legends 2 I bought for £1.00 sold it for £15.00, rare version of Mortal Kombat that cost 50p I sold it for about £15.00, Herc's adventure I got for about £1.00 sold it for around £40.00.
The common ones you see around often are MGS, FFs, Resident Evils, Silent Hills (i have 4 copy's myself), etc.
I don't do this for a living, I have a job lol, but its something to do every now and then.
Got NBA Live 97 for SNES for $9.99.Witchking111111
i bet you could find that game for 1/2 that. Usually, at used game stores, old sports games are the cheapest games out there.....

When the Dreamcast was discontinued, my local Fry's Electronics put all the DC games for $2.99, so I picked up a copy of every game there for DC.

Got a brand new sealed copy of Street Fighter Collection 2 for the PS1 on Ebay for 12 bucks. The game was pretty rare at the time.
where do you guys get these deals? Internet or store?NEOSPARKING
Apart from the occassional $3 game in the bargain bin at Gamestop, you're usually just going to have to be in the right place at the right time and do some hunting. Yard sales are great... because mum's like to say "Honey, if you sell all 20 of your old games for $1 each, that'll be $20 you can spend on something else". So the kid dumps his collection and you score!
