i personally thought it was San Andreas....biggest area, most customization....

tons of people hated it though because of the main character and the whole rap/gangsta thing though......

I think Vice City was the best and then followed by Vice City Stories.

Gameplay wise, if you don't filter in the whole 'been there done that' feeling. San Andreas had the most to offer.

But the Story and Music were better in Vice City.

San Andreas' story started off like a classic John Singleton movie from the early 90's but lost its way in the middle.

I enjoy greaqt gameplay, customization and length a little more than story and music so San Andreas for me.

Vice City. Technically, SA is a "better" game, due to larger area, more customisation and so on, but Vice City just had that X facter that so many people talk about that made it special. Perhaps it was driving down the beach listening to Anthrax that did it. :D:D:D

San Andreas. It just added so much more to the game. I loved moments like when you parachute out of that FBI cargo plane.

Definitely Vice City.

Vice City improved on GTA3 in ways that actually mattered to the gameplay and enhanced the experience and made a large number of additions to the series yet still managed to have a focused theme that remained consistant and managed to build throughout the entire game.

Vice City also had the best soundtrack out of any GTA game to date.....the music really captured the decade of the 80's and managed to be varied while still being consistent in theme and energy and really added to a central atmosphere of the game. In addition, the radio personalities in Vice City were the most entertaining out of any game in the series....no matter what radio station you listened to.

Finally....the characters in Vice City were the most interest and best paid homage to crime movies such as Scarface and Carlito's Way.

Second best game in the series would be GTA3, but Vice City definitely take the top spot.

hmmm. graphically i thought gta 3 looks great and so did vice city. maybe it was the whole sunset look or somthing, but san andreas didnt impress me graphically speaking. the game i loved overall would be between vice city and san andreas. gta 3 kinda lots its way towards the end. i mean the last island in gta3 had like no main missions.you just had to travel to and from it.the lack of a mini map was a pain at times too.

i hated the entire first state/city in san andreas, the whole wannabe hood /gangsta theme was just so fake and weird. the whole corny green vs purple vs the mexican yellow gang thing was just meh. though the last 2 main missions in that city rocked. the mission where you ride at the back of the fat guys bike and you have to kill all the guys chasing you.

san andreas had some spectacular and creative missions overall though.lots of variety. los venruras was amazing the first time i enetered it.the really brought the charm of vegas. sadly there wasnt much to do.mostly just buildings..

but i guess id consider vice city and san andreas to be tied. vice city had an awesome look, fantastic music and the funniest radio hosts of all the gta games.i loved the characters in vice city too.loads of humour. small map with lots packed into it. plus it had some cool mini missions which you could unlock by buying the businesses.loved the whole scarface mansion ripoff .

san andreas had the best missions. the parchute one, various driving schools, the jet fight with 5 other jets, all the missions for the hippie(jetpack one!!!) etc etc.best city(los venturas and san ferrero) and had planes and gigantic maps + character customization plus one of the coolest gta characters ever (mike toreno , hippie guy and and the currupt cop played my samuel l jackson). i hated coming back to los santos to do a few more missions. it was totally depressing to waste my time collecting gang territory after playing some awesome missions b4 that. the last final mission was good though.

liberty city stories was rubbish.liked the indian radio channel and the sadistic french chef though. everything else was very bland.

vice city stories was way better than libert city stories but still pretty avg. though it had some cool characters and some cool humour. though i didnt dig the whole business thing. that was really bland.

i know bully isnt a gta game, but i thoroughly recommend it. its short simple and sweet. i just loved the game. i completly adore it. plus sooooooooo much more interactivity with other people in the world. you can dunk them in toilets. slam them in trashcans, lockers. give wedgies, pinch bottoms, make out with girls(or guys) ,plus lots of cool weapons:slinghsot, eggthrower, dung bombs, firecrackers.the best part is you make all that stuff with your chemistry set. plus you can ride, bikes, skateboards, skooter, bmxs ,ride the bus and swim. plus awesome arcade games .had some crazy main characters and some neat yet nasty missions . from all rockstars sandbox games i usually only play the story missions and other stuff with an avg of 75% completion. i loved bully so much i did 91%!!

forgot to mention, san andreas has the best shooting mechanics from the other gta games by far! the other gtas have only lock on system(unless you play the pc version).plus you can upgrade your guns and personal stats by going to the gym etc.

I think that GTAIII was the best GTA, Nothing could compare to how amazed I felt when I drove around in the car and explored Liberty City for the first time, I was amazed.

GTA (1). It started everything, we all owe our respect, and so do all the installments there-after.

San Andreas was the best, imo, but Vice City had the best soundtrack (non-original) I ever heard in a video game. Plus there's something about 80s entertainment to me.

I enjoyed Vice City the most. The story was really cool and I liked the feel of the time period. San Andreas was too ghetto for me. I come from "the hood" and didn't care to play through scenarios that I saw everyday.

I'm going to say "Vice City" for story, atmosphere and characters but I'll easily admit that GTA:SA was the most technically amazing of the bunch and a close second for best game.
