i went to gamestop yesterday to trade in my xbox 360 games towards getting a 3ds. the manager questioned whether they were actually my games and i said yes. after that he started scanning them and told me he wont take the games. i asked him why and he said there was no reason to answer because hes still getting paid. after that i showed him the recipt to the games that i bought and he said it didnt matter and go to a different store.

so i went to a different gamestop and the same manager from the original store called that gamestop and told him not to take my games.

third gamestop finally took the games apologized for the other gamestops behavior and said it was bs. now its obvious they thought i stole the games since i flip rather frequently due to cag like the la noire deal or just getting bored of games but i was very mad. Also i have never stolen anything before and even had the recipt.

what was your worst experience

They didn't let me pre-order the Hardened Edition of Modern Warfare 2. No reason given, just that I can't pre-order it.

I stopped shopping at GameStop entirely years ago. I didn't like getting nagged about their PowerUp Rewards membership they kept pushing on nearly everyone at the register. It probably wasn't the employee's fault, the manager probably made them do that, but it was still highly annoying. Besides, trading in your games to them is a rip-off. You can get much more on eBay, Amazon Trade Ins and other various sites.

A few of the employees are good, mostly because they know me. But the other one treats me like I'm some dumb idiot. I went to buy "Lost Odyssey" and he looked at me like I was an idiot and said "You know this is an RPG right?" Like since I'm not"nerd" lookingI only play COD or something.

I went to another gamestop and they gave me a PAL version of MGS2. FAIL.

And when I go to a third gamestop place the guy always gives me these looks like I don't belong there, like I belong in some sport shop. So what, I keep myself in good shape. Geez, people! I know where I'm going! Do these people have nothing better to do than stare at people who walk into the store?

I haven't ever really had a bad experience at Gamestop, but I don't really shop there often. Most of the guys at the 4 stores around where I live are pretty cool.

The only time I got agitated was when my girlfriend was buying Nier for me and the people at the counter were all saying its a horrible game and she was like "I don't want to get you this game because you won't like it."

By the way, we ended up getting it anyway and I loved it, and its her favorite game now.

Some of the people who work at gamestop have similar game interests as me, some barely know about the developers who make the games and some would call specific FPS the best game in the world. I bought Disgaea 3 and Ar Tonelico: Qoga together at one gamestop which I will never go to again. When I brought the two games to the desk the guy looked at me like a freak and told me "You're that sort of person, huh?" I started an argument which eventually made me drop my two games and come out of the store empty handed. Bought them from Amazon instead. I complained but nothing happened, and I couldn't tell if he changed his attitude or not because like I said, I'm not going to that store again.

I love my local GameStop. I've done 90% of my games shopping there, and I will continue to do so until I leave the city.

The guys there are nice, don't get all up in your face about console biases or whatever, and they always support your choice in games. They don't let kids buy M games (seen it happen, he owned that little squealer), don't push preorders in your face, they just casually ask you if there was anything else you wanted to buy or preorder (and usually, there is).

I've signed up for PowerUpRewards (already subscribed to Game Informer, so that came standard :D) and it's served me well.

I know I'm in the minority, but until I witness a horror story myself, I will never hold a grudge against Gamestop.

At least, not against my local Gamestop.

Yeah that's always odd to me. The Gamestop I usually go to seems to be comprised of all gamers, but the one at the mall isn't.

I haven't had a bad experience with gamestop and have not had a good one either, but I don't shop there anymore. They always try to sell opened games as new and they'll tell you it's their last copy if you ask for sealed one. Also, they almost force you to get their power up card or to preorder an upcoming game, but I guess they're required to do it if they want to keep their job.

I haven't had any bad experiences, exactly. Just some rather annoying/humorous ones. There was a customer talking to an employee, asking him if there was anything like Heavy Rain he could recommend. The Gamestop guy said Quantum Theory... I figured the employee was thinking "Quantic Dream" the developers of Heavy Rain, but then again why would you recommend a development studio as a game?

once got a gutted copy of the game, that ticket me off, only noticed once I got home and was pissed and went back, EB Games years ago also sold me a game without the disc inside, it was WipeOut for the PS1, I went back and they had the disc in their demo PS1, and when they took it out it was all beat up, I was pissed also, since I buy a lot of high profile, highly rated games when they come out, and I play them rather quickly (not that I rush through them, I just play the hell out of them rather quickly), that leaves me with a lot of time between releases when I want to try something I haven't gotten a chance to play, and there's lots of old games that interested me in the past that are only like $20 or less now but didn't interest me at full price, and sometimes I go into game stores and when I want a certain game they're just like "that's a bad game, you should try...", for instance when I wanted to play Alone in the Dark because it was $20 it was almost impossible to get the guy to sell it to me, he was like "have you played this game instead" and I'm like "yes, I got it day one, played through it several times for the last few weeks", and then they're like "what about this game", and I'm like "got that too, loved it, but already played the hell out of it", I basically have to explain to them I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel, I hate having to explain that, and once I ran out of things to play, wanted to try MoH: Airborne, I was pretty sure they had a copy but the clerk was such a game snob that he told me they didn't have any copies and kept reminding me how horrible it was... plus, telling people a game is bad is up to them to discover, I've sometimes gambled on games people complain about or games that got so-so ratings and occasionally I find something I rather like, just like sometimes I'm sure we don't like games that get good ratings

I've never set foot inside a Gamestop, mostly just EB Games in the mall(s) near me. Generally quick and sufficient service, and I think the last time I went there I picked out Condemned 1 and 2 from the used game rack, asked for a discount on 1 because they had no case, and the clerk was more than helpful.

But these days I don't go game hunting. I go on first day where everything is set out on display near the register in Futureshop or Bestbuy, grab it and pay for it.

Got into an argument with one of the employees at gamestop because i was buying a pc game, and he was like oh your one of those pc nerds huh?

Then i just replied, i play pc games so i guess so... Then he continued on by saying, man you guys are wierd i dont know how you can stand the crappy pc graphics and said have fun with your WoW(when i was buying the orange box anyway) because you have no social life.

So i just said, you probably have a dell because you cant afford a decent anything with this job and thats why you think pc has crappy graphics, and im sure with your attitude your going to be working alot of dead end jobs.

Then he came out from behind the counter and was like what did you say? I said, have fun with your dead end job low life, and then i walked out the door.

Last time I went to Gamestop I got the empty case for a game off the shelf and took it up to the cashier. He said, rather embarassed, that they didn't have the disk for it, but he could sell me a used copy "for a couple bucks less". Which would have been about $15 more than Amazon wanted for a new copy.

I've gotten all my games from Amazon ever since.

Once when I brought a copy of FF for the PSP, they forgot to put the game in the case. So I had to go back to the store and explained, good thing most of them know who I am so they believed me.

But in gernral I don't like GameStop becasue they think they know so much about games, it sicken me. When I brough Resistance 1, 2 and the PSP version yesterday the gye siad "oh you like shooter, want to pre-order Dark Soul?". Like how is Dark Souls a shooter? Does this gye even play games? Plus I don't like shooters that much, I only like the Resistance games. :?

never had a bad experience. All 3 locations are manned (womened) by gamers and they are all videogame nerds (by my account). The latest stop involved the woman, who, when asked about Brink, said "all the returns are from COD kiddies, so its pretty good because of that". lol

They are all super friendly. you can easily get into conversations about gaming with them. They don't try to push anything on you either.

They tried to sell me an opened box copy of Half Life 2 as a new game. It was completely opened and everything, with a CD key there.. but what was I suppose to think? It's not like Gamestop is the only one selling HL2. :?

I used to work at GameStop and the employees in my area are usually pretty nice. Although about a year ago I did have a pretty bad experience. I was in the store with my now fiancee and I was asking him if they had a game. He looked at me, but didn't answer. He then turned to my finacee and asked him if he was looking for anything. We both kind of ignored it. After I finally found the game on my own and went to purchase it, he basically said that it was a terrible game but because I'm a woman, I might enjoy it. I then asked to speak to his manager (who I'm good friends with), me and my fiancee then proceeded to tell him what had happened. Apparently, I wasn't the first to complain about his behavior. Hopefully he will correct that attitude towards women before seeking re-employment with another retailer.

It happened right after they bought out Impulse. They cancelled my pre-order of The Witcher 2, and they never did put the game back up for sale.

What a bad sales decision on their part - Stardock wouldn't have done that.

This is why I haven't really used B&M stores in a long time. Just buy online from sites like Amazon(I never had a problem with them). GameStop/ EB Games/ Babbages/ FuncoLand. etc. is/was always more than Amazon anyway.

I've never had a negative experience with Gamestop. The worst experience I had was forgetting to give them my Powerup rewards card when I bought a game, I missed out on an oppurtunity to get some points.

But I love Gamestop, I've never had to deal with some of the BS I hear. The majority of the employees I deal with are friendly. The last time I was there, the guy at the counter convinced me to buy Shadow of the Colossus even though I had no intention of buying a game that day. Damn he was convincing, he does his job well. XD. But the game was well worth the money.

It sounds like all these stories are made up because I've never dealt with or witnessed other customers having problems with employees or managers.

you are getting lucky kinda like the gamer whose 360 has never broken. this happened with me and now the employee know as jon is having a nice talk with corporate :) looking back on everything that happened it might have unfortunately been a race issue because im blac ad was going to trade in around 20 games. apparently minorities cants afford games LOL or hopefully i just looked shady but i doubt it

I never really had any bad experiences with GameStop. The only problem I had with them was an issue regarding a pre-order bonus (Persona 4 artbook), but it was quickly settled. That said, I only shop with them when they offer a pre-order bonus (and I pick up my game sealed). I normally don't like shopping for games there because the price stickers on the case annoys me, and taking them off can sometimes be a pain.

The Gamestops in Southwest Florida are actually really good. I was just in one of them a week ago. My two and a half year old son was running around the store with one of the female employees and she kept him really entertained. Most of the guys there are pretty current on new games coming out, and never try to force any preorders on me. The only bad experience I ever had was when I went into my local GS and it smelled like someone had taken a dump on the carpet near the used Xbox 360 games. They even had the door open to air the store out. Wonder what the story was behind that... lmao

Often games are traded in without a box, in which case GameStop employees have to put it in a generic box. One thing you can do is ask them if you could come back later when they have a copy of that game traded in with the original box and switch boxes. Both GameStops I worked at usually didn't have a problem with this, although it does depend on the manager. Doesn't hurt to ask!

/Sigh hold your breath... I was in Vegas on New Years Eve this past year and stopped in a Gamestop to buy new 360 games.../sigh The manager was the only one working and he was outside smoking. I walked past him to go inside. He stopped me said that I couldn't go in. When i asked why he told me that he was the only one working and that he was having a smoke so I would have to wait. To that I said **** you and went inside and began looking for Afro Samurai and the newest Fight Night... I found them, went up to the counter, and waited for the manager to come in so i could check out. Five minutes later 2 cops walk in guns drawn and are yelling at me to get on the ground. Yea, that dude call the cops on me for wanting to buy games. I got him fired 3 days later. REVENGE!!!! Oh, and yea no charges filed...I didn't do anything!!!

I live in England, and the big one here is Game (there are others, but I think of Game as the major one). I haven't really had any bad experiences, to be honest. But I can recall a few annoying ones from the past in random video game stores (not sure if it was Game or not). One of them was... It was just after Hour of Victory had come out. They had it REALLY cheap and had a massive poster in the window for the game saying they're selling it cheap, and when I went to buy it (I tried the demo and I like it, despite any gliches etc. the game has, I do enjoy it still), I went to the counter and everybody behind it said that it was a bad game and I shouldn't buy it. Even if it is/was, they shouldn't really do that if you are buying it, to be honest. Once I also had an employee ask me if I am looking for anything in particular, and I said nope (it was the pre-owned shelf with loads of games). He asked me what game I have been playing recently, and I said Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, so this was a few months ago now. He then started talking about what the AC games are like, such as mini games etc. and how the game works etc., even though I had told him I had already completed all 3 of them :P. He must have talked to me about that for at least 2 or 3 minutes. I then went back to the same store about a week or two later for another pre-owned game (the greatness of cheap games :)) and I saw the same guy talking to somebody else. He was talking for ages and I saw the guy who he was talking to kind of laughing (it could have been what he said though), but they created a huge blockage of people, because they were standing in front of two shelves in the most awkward way possible. This one is more funny than bad. I was looking through some pre-owned games (another store) about 2 weeks ago, and there was this middle-aged woman with her friend, and at the top of her voice (she was at the side of me), she said: "I'll get him Iron Man, because he likes Iron Man. I will then come back next week to get Iron Man 2". Heh :P These might not seem like much, but I don't have any that really stand out, so those are my stories :P.

With Gamestop I had my worst experience not so long ago.Maybe 3 months.

So, I went to gamestop to buy Call of Duty: MW2. It was cheap at the time. So I bought un-used. I got home and when I opend the box, what do I find? A scratched game. I went back to Gamestop next thing tomorrow. I said that this game was scrached when I opend the box. He said he don't belive me. I even showed him the recepiet. He said he is not taking that game back. Then I got mad. I said to him that he can take this game and give me the same game but UNUSED. He didn't took it back. Then I said that he can take this game and sell it to some other No-Brain custemer. He didn't took the game then. I said "Bye bye" and throw the game in the trash bin in Gamestop when I was leaving. I went around the corner and waited what will he do with the game.

HE TOOK THE GAME OUT OF THE TRASH, TOOK THE DISC AND PUTED BEHIND THE DESK. Then I walked past by the door, smiling while he was looking at me.

My worst experience was probably the Xbox 360 slim launch. I don't shop at Gamestop hardly ever, but I decided to try. It was the first batch the week after E3, and I was in browsing games looking for a few to purchase. The UPS man brought in the new consoles, the employer got them all out of the boxes and set them behind the counter. I was one of 2 people in the store. I asked him if I could purchase one, and he prompty told me "No, sorry, I'm saving these for my friends to flip on Ebay" with a dumb laugh.

I left and haven't gone back since. I did file a complaint, but who knows if anything came of it.

I don't mind gamestop in fact theyare great they carry a lot of games that other places don't have. However I do get annoyed with them like when I buy a game for 30 bucks and it's on sale a week later for 20 sucks. My worst experience is recently I bought heavy rain new and they gave me the the dirty floor copy and it didn't even have an instruction booklet. I mean thats alright for a used game, but for a new thats a no no in my book.

i used to frequent one particular EB and i would buy plenty of M games and there was really only one guy who ever there working. he carded me early on and eventually stopped because he knew i was over 18. i forgot my license one time and he suddenly carded me insisting i "could be part of a sting."

they are usually good though. there are lots of times where i buy a game and they throw in the pre-order junk even though i never pre-order anything. ill take my free junk, thank you.

I've only been in Gamestop once, and it was neither good nor bad, but some of these stories are incredible. A manager called the cops because you walked into the store on his smoke break? An employee calling a PC gamer a nerd and insulting the platform? An employee blatantly displaying chauvinism in front of women? I've never experienced or witnessed anything this bad at ANY retail store in my life.

The fact that I keep hearing such negative things about them, not just from message boards, but in real life, tells me they're do something very wrong.

I'd say the worst experience at Gamestop is buying a gutted game. What's really galling is when they get a gutted game for you, which has already been opened, and they re-seal it with a sticker. They tell you that the game is unreturnable if the seal is broken. That's simply disgusting-- it's already open, with its original factory seal broken, and then they reseal it and treat it like it's never been opened.

I have never shopped at GameStop. I just go in there to remind myself that buying online is a hell of a lot cheaper.

This. I'd like to add that I've had a number of friends work at gamestop, and I can tell you that these gutted games are used by the staff.

I've heard about that before, that, at least previously, employees could "sign out" a new game for a weekend and then bring it back and sell it as new. Ugh.
