What was your worst gaming purchase?

As per the title, what's the purchase you made that made you most regret your decision? It could be anything from a console, to a game, a peripheral, DLC.

Mine has to be the PS Vita, which hurts because as a console it shows so much promise. I'm not a big JRPG fan, and really the selection of great games on the handheld outside of that genre just isn't big enough. I've had some great moments with it, playing Metal Gear Solid HD again & Gravity Rush.. but there just isn't enough there to make me not regret my purchase.

I do wish Sony supported it more, and that there were more games designed specifically for the Vita rather than lazily ported over, because it had the potential to be one of the best handheld consoles ever.

So, what's yours?

Well, probably the time when I was in such a rush in a store one day, and I meant to purchase $30 worth of PSN money, to spend on games, and I accidentally purchased $30 of PS Plus, 3 months of it. So I didn't get what I was originally wanting to get, and also, I paid $10 more than I should have more 3 months of PS Plus.

Other than that, I don't really know. Probably my PS Vita as well. Such a beautiful system design, wasted.

Vita was a waste for how much I used it, but I'm sure that there are others that would object. PS Move and peripherals I bought them on clearance a couple of years ago pure waste for me, I might have used it once. Wii balance board and overall Wii and Wii U in general as I bought them but rarely used them.

I'd say that buying a 3DO was my worst gaming purchase, pretty lousy system.

Buying Battlefield Hardline is my worst phurcase in newer times, what a garbage game compared to the other BF games.

That's a tough one-

Assassins Creed, Duke Nukem Forever, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2, GoW: Ascension, Uncharted 3, TES: Online, Thief, Dragons Dogma Online, and TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan.

These are some of many, but you never know till you try them I guess. And 'no', I don't think all these games are awful, they're just not worth the price-tag/ subscription.

Destiny, by far. Only because they (bungie) said so much was going to be in game and then wasn't. We now know that they cut a big chunk out to be sold as DLC and expansions. there was also a article on IGN where Bungie had said a lot of things would be in the game are not in the game. I bought the game because I enjoyed the Halo games. My mistake. it was a hard lesson. I won't be buying anymore games on Day One of Launch until I know 100% what I'm getting into.

Hmmm I asked for MTV music maker for Christmas one year for PS1. Played it for about 5 minutes and never again haha.

More recently, Hearts of Iron 4 and Star Fox Zero are games I thought I would like, but do not at least not enough to feel like full retail was worth it.

@the OP: I also was burned on a Vita. After Person 4 Golden, there wasn't any software that interested me. I traded it in long ago.

It's a fight between value for money with Lone Solder on PS1 for £40 or Diablo 3 with dumbing down and destroying a franchise.

I think my worst gaming purchase was Betrayal at Antara. Awful awful game - in part because there was some promise hidden in that ugly buggy clunky mess. I've been pretty lucky, though - well, maybe not so much "lucky" as very cautious with where I send my moolah

Bleach game that came out for ps3

Second-hand launch 60GB PS3. Only worked for 4 months before YLoDing. What a piece of shit console. Wasted $300+ on that trash.

Project Cars...for its Vive support. By itself it's a decent game, but VR mode had me sick as a dog with its horrible resolution, terrible interior, and blinding sun that blocked out my view of the road. Instant refund.

@ryan78134: My worst gaming rental was Rise of the Robots for Super NES. Man did that game suck. Purchase? I can't think of one other than maybe buying Red Orchestra on sale. I didn't realize how dated that game was and how poorly it actually aged. Oh, wait a sec...WoW Cataclysm expansion was my worst gaming purchase. Beat Deathwing in like 3 months after returning to the game from quitting during WotLK. Was like....wtf.

Digimon All Stars Rumble. Bought it day of release for 40 bucks. Was not worth 40 bucks. Not the worst game ever, but certainly not worth 40 bucks.

But other than that, i tend to do a lot of research and waiting before buying games. So I rarely ever regret anything. That one time, my love of digimon overtook reason.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Endless Legend = Hex games are surprisingly not my thing.

Grim Dawn = Not a fan of the genre and the games just awful!

Ashes of singularity = Ergh!

Kingdom Hearts. I heard a lot of good things about it, but i didn't like the game, and I ended up selling it for a friend for five bucks.

Nintendo 64. Amazingly terrible console that was flat out dominated to an obscene extent by the PS1. My PS1 got tons of love but the N64 just gathered dust except when one of the annual games for it worth playing came out and even then I thought every game on the N64 suffered by being on the N64. The controller was incredibly terrible. The low rez textures gave me a headache. Even the best games for it like Super Mario 64 suffered from the amazingly terrible controller and the ridiculously awful camera controls.

worst is probably when I got Sega, Sega CD and Sega 32 x. Just a complete waste of money. The 32x had so few games, and the games on it were terrible. I remember renting Doom on it to compare it to my PC version, and it was much worse even though my PC was much older than the 32x was.

More recent regrets was probably buying a gamecube and ps3. I regret gamecube because i didnt like the controller, and most of the games i didn't get into, and the ps3 i regret mostly because the majority of the games i ended up getting on the 360 because they looked or ran better.

However the ps3 is only a slight regret, its a launch ps3 so it at least can play ps2 games also... just wish i knew how few games i would actually have gotten for it. If i knew that, i would probably have just not bought one. I literally have less than 5 games, and only 5 games that were ps3 exclusive.

Rocket League Ps4

Had a pc in one room and ps4 in the livingroom. Already had Rocket League for Pc and loved it. I figured I want it on the ps4 so I can play with friends so I bought it. Then I learned u need Playstation Plus to play online....WTF!? I've had all 4 playstations and this blew me away. A monthly fee just to play this one game online??? Tried for a refund and got rejected. Never touched it again. I then built a console style pc for the livingroom that boots up like a console and filled with games. Hooked up ps4 controllers and happy as all hell. Psplus may be worth it for those who play lots of ps games online but I don't. So it seemed like an insult to have to pay that fee. I bought the system, i bought the game, i pay for Internet, why the f should i pay more a month? Wasted money buying RL for ps4 but now the result is fantastic. Playing old pc games, new pc, nes, snes, gamecube, wii, ps2, ps1, gameboy advanced, sege gen, arcade games, you name it and all on a ps4 controller and the system boots up into a console like game selector so i never even need to use a mouse or keyboard. Life is goooooood. FU Playstation Plus! ; )

I was a kid, and had the chance to pick a game all by myself!

I looked at all the cases, and found a game that looked like the most awesome shooting game ever. God i was psyched.

It was Full Spectrum Warrior. A completely realistic, and utterly boring, strategy shooter game. A lot of nights went crying in my bed feeling really sad about myself.

Poor me as a kid :(.

Probably the SOCOM: Confrontation + Bluetooth mic bundle.

PS4. I don't currently own any exclusives nor am I interested in purchasing any and I find myself craving Forza, Gears of War, Sunset Overdrive, Halo, Tomb Raider, Elite: Dangerous, etc...Dunno why the hell I got the damn thing. Guess I was hoping new Twisted Metal, Crash Bandicoot, Jet Moto, Gran Turismo games would be out by now. ?

I bought a Steering Wheel for 360 I hardly ever used. I've played som racing games is the past and thought a Steering Wheel would be cool. It probably is, but it really wasn't for me. Think I played maybe 20-30 minutes with the bundled game and never used it again.

Devil May Cry 2. other than the great animation the combat wasn't great and Dante personality was too serious compared to the first game.

Dreamcast and Saturn were pretty bad too lol. Minus Ocarina of Time and Mario Kart 64 the N64 was a pretty poor purchase too.

Either Throne of Darkness or a game called Wargasm when I was around 15 years old.

Wargasm might be the worst of the two mostly cause the name is just more laughably bad then Throne of Darkness.
