A lot less cash-ins.

Also a lot less remakes and sequels to games that never had a market to start with.

So a net loss.

I would have liked it if Nintendo had stopped existing somewhere around the Gamecube sucking. Maybe it had morphed into a company that made new IPs with interesting and engaging storylines and characters.

We'll be stuck on brick games and nobody would have created gamespot. I'm thinking there's nothing to innovate, nothing to improvise if then.

are you kidding? why are you talking only about the wii? i assume you don't know or have little to no knowledge on the history of the video game industry? PS wouldn't exist. Hell the console market wouldn't exist. PC gaming will still be strong though so that's where the industry will rely if nintendo didn't exist which means video games would have less popularity and diversity.

Sega is right up there. As a long time Nintendo fan after years of realizing it. Sega did great things.

PacMan, Galaga, Games like those are a big reason gaming took off also. I love Nintendo but sorry i guess since i got to grow up and go through all there systems, they havnet been the same since Super Nintendo and they were very very greedy back then and it came back to get them. And it seems there starting to get like this all over again. I still feel console gaming is not the same without Sega and Ninty.

Who brought the console industry back to life? Shigeru Miyamoto with Mario. If they didn't exist, would SEGA have successfully bring the console industry back to life on their own? We don't know.

Yeah if Nintendo never existed then video games probably would have never gained the popularity that they did as a result of Nintendo.

Actually, there wouldn't even be a gaming world if it wasn't for Nintendo and the NES. That brought gaming back onto it's feet.

They revolutionized gaming. So we would, at least, have a lesser quality gaming atmosphere and market if they never existed.

Sega was surviving fairly well before Nintendo walked in. Their arcade division was already 2 years old when Nintendo debuted the NES in Japan, and released the Mark II the following year. So while Nintendo brought around the console revolution, Sega was lighting the spark for Japanese beginners in the console and PC markets. The Mark III was only the natural progression.

Nintendo slaughtered the Mark III. There is no other term for 90%+ market share in Japan and America. But when you look at the European market, the Mark III (lol, sorry, SMS) did extremely well. This is because Sega was the only console maker in parts of Europe, meaning that the market existed where nobody had looked, and Sega survived from tapping that market.

So yes, the gaming world would exist thanks to Sega. The only difference would be everyone talking about how the Mark III and Alex Kidd got them into gaming instead of Nintendo's Mario.

The region-locking problems would have upset gamers around the world and the Playstation fiasco still would have occured, because Sega was much greedier than Nintendo ever was. Everything else would be about the same, other than possibly Sega being known as a computer/gaming company for awhile. Not enough to compete with Windows 3.1, but certainly more of an impact than the MAC.

well its not surprising to see people seriously underestimating the effect Nintendo has had on the gaming industry.

We would still have a gaming industry, after all before the NES we had the Atari gaming system. However its impossible how things would have turned out. Without Nintendo, would Sega have been motivated to move from Arcade games to console gaming? If Sega had never created their system, would Sony have taken notice and created the PSOne? If left unchecked, would Atari have stepped enough to make M$ take notice and prompt them to make the Xbox? Theres too many 'what ifs' and possible variables to be really certain for sure.

I have no doubt that the gaming world would still exist if Nintendo had never entered reality.

At the end of the day they started as a trading card manufacturer.

The PSone originally started life as a CD-Rom drive for the SNES. It was due to them reneging on a deal with Sony that prompted Sony to make the PSOne.

So, in a way Sony still would have entered the video gaming market. Microsoft would still have made windows.

Lets face it. If you make technology, you're going to look at the gaming market and decide you want a slice of it eventually.

Panasonic made the 3DO. Phillips made the CD-i.

Samsung, Nokia, LG, all have gaming modes on their mobiles. There is no way that gaming would not be around if Nintendo had not decided to make Game and Watch instead of trading cards. Although, we wouldn't have some of the gems that exist today.

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is my favorite game of all time. If Nintendo didn't exist, that void would basically be empty as Nintendo games make up most of my all time games list. So it'd be sad, but I own a PS3, and wont own a Wii, but I owe a lot of my childhood to Nintendo.

The gaming world would exist.

But it wouldn't be the same.

I never been one for hypothetical questions, but in 2008 its indisputable that without Nintendo, bingo would still be the dominant pastime in nursing homes and Squenix would be the most enthusiastic milker of franchises.

Before nintendo there were a lot of other systems lol, I think that nintendo has a place in history, but with the progression of technology (which was not spurred by nintendo) would have eventually led up to something similar to what we have today.

We can play the what if game with any company...such as what if Bill Gates didnt drop out of an ivory league college...what would the computing world be like today? It would be different yet similar and big fish would eat little fish.

Gaming would still exist. PC gaming was doing fine during the console crash and there's nothing to suggest that if the NES hadn't come out, the other gaming consoles that did come out in the same generation wouldn't have. Perhaps Atari would've reclaimed the throne- who knows?

Obviously it would look different now- our definition of what's a classic game might be totally different. But Nintendo is not the savior of gaming.

If the Atari Jaguar is any indication of what gaming would have been like had Nintendo not existed then I don't even want to begin to imagine a world without Nintendo.

It's impossible to say. Do you think nintendo would have entered if nintendo hadn't entered the market? And even if they had, do you think sega would have been able to reinvigorate the industry the way the NES did?

who knows. All we know is that it would be very, very different

That'd mean no NES, no SNES, no 64, no GC and no wii. I'd think gaming would be pretty much dead.

Less shovelware, less cash-ins, less stupid ideas.

But, less great games, IPs, and no handhelds.

One word comes to mind: "non-existant."

Without Nintendo, after the Atari crash of the 1980's, gaming wouldn't have survived.
