Hi people what you think about Online Only games at all and which is releasing today ?

And you think that Online Only games becoming trend ? because I don´t like playing Online, I enjoying playing Offline Single-Player Campaign even in Call of Duty or playing Offline Multi-Player with bots.

I´m just an Offline guy and I´m afraid that I´m not gonna have any new games to play in the future on Next-Gen Systems. because I see that lot of games now on Next-Gen Systems is Online Only Games. I think that is it only some mania by developers because Next-Gen Systems is more faster for Online playing than Last-Gen Systems and the Games soon come back to normal style of games (Offline Single-Player and Online Multi-Player) for taste of every player like is it before when Last-Gen Systems released.

You remember ? - Warhawk, Starhawk, MAG, Battlefield 1943... at the beggining.

Thank you for your answers :)

They are essentially rentals, and I am not interested in rentals.

Also they generally possess the depth of a shallow puddle.

I enjoy them. There's WAAAAAAAY more games that aren't Online Only games and I certainly don't see that really changing too much. More games may come with an online component to them but they'll still have offline playing capabilities. Hell the new Wolfenstein came out recently and it had no online component at all and it's an FPS game.

They're a terrible idea. A game should always have an offline mode of some sort, even if it's just playing with bots on maps. And with a game like Destiny, I don't see why it absolutely has to be online. All of these online only games are eventually going to become wastes of space. Think about all those copies of MAG and whatnot lying around. I guess they can just sit there on a shelf as part of a collection, but still. I'm hoping we don't see more Destinys and Titanfalls, especially seeing as those are among the largest marketed games this gen thus far.

The problem with online only games is that after a while they are the same thing, seriously its the same thing over and over and over again....and play alike.

Its a pretty bad idea if you think about it. What if there's a problem with the broadband in your area, then you cant play. Or what if psn or xb live go down, like when psn was hacked and down for a number of weeks. Currently on my xb1 ive got titanfall, destiny, watch dogs and fifa. I only play fifa online and I've completed watch dogs. If my internet goes down then in screwed.

Hi thank you for replies. Yes I know that is a terrible idea and that is still gonna be releasing more games with both, Single-Player and Multi-Player but I hate see that The Division, The Crew and Destiny is Online Only games. I like more Offline and doesn´t like Online because is still the same thing over and over again and I love always a new stories and experiences that Single-Player delivering and after the servers went down for that game, the game is useless. Why buy these games for only temporary playing for 2 years or something , That doesn´t make sense. If you like Online Only, Buy it and Play it I´m doesn´t stopping you from playing these games :) but only saying that these games doesn´t make sense and can include at least Offline Mode with bots. I´m waiting for more games with Single-Player for Next-Gen consoles (Which is not gonna release for Last-Gen consoles) and after that I buy Next-Gen consoles.

When they're multiplayer I don't mind. You simply go into a multiplayer game thinking that the only time you'll play the game is as long as other people are playing. I never purchase a multiplayer game with the idea I can play it forever.

It's a different story if it's only a single player game.

@seznam88: I agree with you, when I played mass effect for the first time, I enjoyed having my own personal experience offline. It took me months to even try Mass effect 3: multiplayer, but when I did it was amazing. I don't agree with online only games, and believe if you buy a game it deserves multiple playthroughs.

Devs will make whatever there is a market for. But it sounds like there is still a high demand for single player stuff, so don't worry about it too much.

Yes, and let's underline at anytime: there is literally no guarantee of how long servers for a game will remain online. The minute it is no longer profitable to keep them open, they will shut down, making the game useless. Want to come back to Titanfall or Destiny in 15 years for a little retrogaming? Sorry Dave, I'm afraid you can't do that: the server's gone, so the game is gone.

Of course the first objection I usually get is "why would you ever want to go back to them?" which speaks volumes on what these games are: they are casual distractions you are supposed to mess around with for a year or two with your friends and then move on and forget about.

That's disadvantage of only online games. That's why I like the online but offline component games. When there is any error with the serves or network system, we can still play the download.

I will never buy an online only game, it is a terrible idea that generally produces terrible games. Despite the appearance of a few high profile online only games I do not fear for the future of single player games, while there will always be a market for online only games and publishers will put them out I think the gaming community in general prefers a game with a good single player to go alongside the online multiplayer.

Well, Sonic Runners for Android is a waste of space now, servers are down and i cant play it. Some people payed moner (real) for features in the game and now they cant play the game. I thought its a terrible idea ever since i first saw it. I mean you dont need to be Einstein to see its bad idea for a gamer. I first saw League of legends. i know its a mmo game but when i wanted to play it offline with bots to practice, i couldnt and i was like WTF?! delete game, good bye. Than i saw ton of only online games. Sonic Runners is an example of game teking space and doing nothing after server is down. But luckily we have hackers and custom servers from good people who walue games and gaming/fun...but ..... its no good if this continues

From a personal view i am fine with online-only games. I have a great connection which so far in the time iv had it over 2 years, has never been down even once. (Knock on wood)

But i have friends and family who have terrible connections and in their area it´s all they can get, so i can see how online-only games there would be bad. And they are not alone a big part of the western world has terrible internet.

So i can see both sides but online-only games are not going away.

@seznam88: It's fine IMO, some people want to play competitive or with co-op with friends or against friends or against / with random online people.

It's always nice to make new friends and get social with other people, there's also great sp games that got you sucked into the characters and storyline.

I don't mind games being only sp or only mp - as long as the excel in what they do and it would worth your money and time.

I've played a lot of games for the competitive and cooperate features, I love that. However if Online play is all it offers. . it feels unfulfilling.

Would you buy a console without a controller, power and HDMI cable at full price? That's how online only games feel to me.

Sure I've tried them; with Elder Scrolls Online, Overwatch, Dragon's Dogma Online, and many others. However I didn't leave those games very satisfied.

Games Like Monster Hunter, Dragon's Crown, Dark Souls, Pokémon and most modern Fighting games offer expansive online without the cost of Single-Player and local multiplayer content. And if nothing, hit a great balance of features most people want and keep the game having a healthy life-cycle.

Online only games are restrictive and that's a bad message. More options are always welcome.

Wow! New replies in this old thread of mine.

I still don´t like Online-Only games because most of the time, it is just a DRM to fight the piracy, for example the new NFS 2015 and Steep games could be played fine without the online component.

You can even disable other players and play solo but you still need to be always connected. It doesn´t make any sense.

And the worst thing for me as an video game archivist and enthusiastic retro gamer, it scares me that some of these games will not be playable 5-10 years down the road because the servers will be shutdown, and I will not be able to play the game as a retro nostalgic game from 2015.

That is what matters to me the most, and if some hackers don´t crack the game and do the private servers and revive the game after the servers will be shut down (like they now doing it with The Sims Online) the game will be gone.

Also if the game is MMO then ok, but when the game is not an MMO and you can play it solo (NFS 2015, Steep, Garden Warfare 2,...) but you just need the online connection just because DRM, then I will not buy and support that game because you are not buying the game, you are just renting it.

They are paperweight ! If you don't play them the moment they come out, they are unplayable ... paying 80$CAD for a few trophies because if I wait the game will be unplayable ... yeah **** that.

Saddly many games will be stupid boring and uncollectable in a few years ... like Mortal Kombat X/XL with so much stuff linked to online like the living towers that it will be crap ...

Online-only means I have to deal with less malware disguised as anti-piracy tools.

But, the moment there's any net trouble on either end, I can't play the game.

So, I'm kinda neutral on it.

Same here. I played the closed/open BETA and enjoyed playing the actual game. It had a lot of potential. The biggest issue was that during that time, most people were playing Call of Duty, or games similar to COD. The trend of playing games as an individual was the biggest issue, which boiled over to games like MAG, WarHawk, etc. and sadly has even gone into games today. I try to get online every so often. I usually play BF1 or Star Trek Online right now. I was playing Star Wars Battlefront, but it got repetitive like most games tend to do. Depending on the game, genre will depend if I will play online or focus on the story line itself.

Unless it's an mmo, there is no reason for it to be always online.

I don't buy games that are always online.
