How many different gaming consoles do you think should exist in the market at the same time? (for which new games are released)

Yeah, competition is good for customers but game developers should not divide their attention too much.

2 - 3 Without starting a flame war I see the current market as on a few tiers, so you have the 360 competing against the PS3, then you have the Wii off doing its own thing, and then the previous generation of consoles. I'd like to see a 3rd console enter the competition against PS3 and 360 that can offer the same sort of features, not least of which is HD gaming. Though for major game publishers like EA, Ubisoft and Activision they would probably just release multi platform titles for everything possible as they currently do

2 consoles, 1 for Vetrans, and the Second to get people into gaming. Same way for handhelds.

I think it's a good thing having 3 different consoles competing against each other in the market because it gives software developers some motivation to strive to make quality products that will stand out and be the best.

3 consoles

2 handhelds for those who like portable gaming.

Competition is good for the gaming industry.

One console and PC gaming is all that is needed. Really, I can understand why some would be intimidated by PC gaming, so I think having a console seems a bit natural. But there's no sense in having so many out there. For the record, I don't want any one company to control it- I'd like to see a set of unified standards that developers are going to program for for X years. Then anyone who conforms to those specs are free to create their own console. Sort of like the DVD player market.

no more then 3 consoles a gen, two is better but 3 should be the max amount in one gen. As for handhelds 2 is the most that should have.
