If you think Resident Evil 4 is a scary game, then you must not be familiar with the survival horror genre. My list would include Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Fatal Frame II, Eternal Darkness (only at certain moments though).
I haven't really made it very far, but Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth is really freaky. The hype has made me more nervous than perhaps its due...
For me it's fatal frame ll. I was playing it late at night alone in my basement and the power went out. I ran into so many things tyring to get upstairs, incuding my cat that I ran into which scared the crap out of me!!! lol I don't think I'll be playing that game again for quite some time.
Hmm... I haven't played many Survival horror, but the Clock Tower series and it's unofficial sequel Haunting Ground do scare me (Except Clock Tower 2:Ghost Head, that game is a piece of garbage. It's horrible).
Also, Resident Evil Code Veronica is pretty scary at times... There was one part where you're walking by a house which is a little elevated, it's dark, no sound at all, and a pack of dogs jumps out from under the house. I honestly didn't expect that.
clock tower, fatal frame, silenthill 2 are pretty good. im probably gonna go with fatal frame since you have no weapons, just the camera giving you a real sense of hopelessness.
Hmm, can't decide between the spiders or the damn Hunters in RE1, or the damn Nemesis in RE3. I guess RE 1&3 for me, 4 was just too pedestrian to be scary.
Silent Hill 2, Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly and Forbidden Siren were all incredibly scary games. They don't have the same sort of impact on me now, but when I first played through them I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish.
PC's 7th Guest gave me creeps. I could not remember so well about other scariest games.DeafNYCPlayer
7th guest was creepy as hell especially the opening cinematic with the old guy laying under the tree. But for me Def Silent Hill 1, Fatal Frame 1, RE4 ill leave it at that
Meh, games never try to be realistically scary. Nothing freaky about space, or mansions. I had higher hopes for Fatal Frame but it was more annoying than it ever was scary. The Silent Hill series is probably the best you can get.
