Me: Metal Gear Survive XD
From the line-up we have right now, God of War is what I'm expecting GameSpot to pick.
I see Monster Hunter: World winning a few from other media sites/ outlets (my personal pick so far)
And from what's to come. The potential contender is the upcoming Rockstar game Red Dead Redemption II; and expect it to win a popularity vote if this thread was made into one. Rockstar has a lot of fans, and many of them would tell you it's GotY before they even play the game.
With that, it would be interesting to see what e3 brings and if any games shown release in the 2018 to rival the three games above.
@RSM-HQ:
Probably RDR2. Rockstar games always wins
Rockstar has a very good track record, so I expect the game to at least please fans_
*I know the thread was made to joke about Metal Gear Survive, but adding a poll may give the thread longevity. Though that would require research on the top games this year, what's out, and upcoming. Along with adding the 'Other' option for lesser known games.
@hrt_rulz01: I'm hoping for Fable 4 and Metro Exodus
Metro could be a GOTY contender for me for sure... but Fable won't be out for a while yet.
For now Monster Hunter World. GoW seems great too from what I've played so far (chisellin' away).
RDR 2 is a huge hit or miss. That could be an excellent game this year or it could bomb for critics/users. Even if the mtx are just terrible I could see some outlets give it GOTY.
It will be between SpiderMan, RDR/, or GOW. My pick is GOW that game was just a well polished work of art, from the exploring, to side quest, going to the other worlds and story were all almost flawless, the only thing I didn’t like was that it ended really abruptly like I was expecting to do more. As for MHW idk I liked it and all it just really was underwhelming to me the combat felt really dull and it got pretty boring it wasn’t a bad game just not GOTY material imo.

. . . Combat and creature behaviour is the main appeal of Monster Hunter games. And the new one is praised for doing both very well, taking and smoothing out rough edges from 4G.
Doesn't seem you stuck with Monster Hunter: World for long; if at all. I understand it's a lot of layers to process, but the quote above shows you flat out didn't give the game a chance. It's like judging God of Wars combat before meeting Brok for weapon upgrades_
MH:W is easily GotY material in my opinion. And from sales and reception many others agree. I don't think it'll get a GotY here however, GS have a history of ignoring Monster Hunter and I expect that pattern to continue. (GS gave a negative to Monster Hunter: World for being too hard end game. . . Clear new to MH, World doesn't even have G-Rank)
Also worth noting MH has superior level design, and enemy A.I. than any of the released games listed. Then add that it's still adding free content every week, and you can play with three extra Hunters, with the difficulty re-balanced to fit how many join the hunt.
While I think God of War is an excellent game, outside of narrative, MH:W is superior in every other area. . . Well combat is, I suppose debatable, if you prefer tactical or hectic, yet tactical in MH:W is far more deep and complex and far more rewarding as you explore your options.
So between those two (GoW & MH:W) it'll come down to how much story matters in GotY selected games.
And certainly can't discuss Spider-Man or Red Dead Redemption 2 outside of the hype-train, because neither are available. Spider-Man I don't think will make the list honestly. Though I'd gladly be proven wrong.
*Cool User name by the way.
I would go for Far Cry 5, the detailing and the gaming experience is just awesome, story is bit exciting but what I love are graphics.
Overall my money’s on Red Dead Redemption 2 but from what I’ve played so far I would pick Monster Hunter World.
It'll be a two-horse race between God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2, assuming The Last of Us 2 doesn't come out this year.
