I figured out a while ago that I coudn't buy evry game I want to play. Over the years I think I've developed a pretty solid way of being able to play a **** load of games and still save cash.

My gaming strategy is:

1. Rent all my games from Gamefly

2. Send back the weak games right away.

3. Play most games for a week or two then send back.

4. Keep only my very favorites that are supre replayable.

I mostly buy older games, and usually they have to be 15 dollars or less. That way I can play games I missed out on because I was too young to play them, and still support my hobby. Hell my game of the year 2008 was Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Recently I ordered Dark Forces and Quake II for the PC.

Old games are great and cheap. The only way I could play all the new games that come out is to rent.

I make money, so if I want a game I buy it. Of course I don't buy every game I want, but after figuring out if I can afford the game I go ahead and get it. I earn my salary, so I should be able to spend it on whatever I want. I still look for the best deal on a game before I buy it though.

Curious- where did you score Dark Forces? I've been trying hard to cut back on how quickly I buy a game. When I got my first real part-time job when I was 17, I used to pick up a new Dreamcast game like every week or two. But now that I have other things to worry about in life, so I just can't afford to keep doing that. Plus I don't even have the time anymore. My 'strategy,' if you could even call it that, is to buy only either the most innovative or games from a genre that really need support at their full price. So I picked up LittleBigPlanet and Valkyria Chronicles without issue. Those games need the sales to show the industry that new ideas will be rewarded and niche genres can still be worthwhile. And both were new franchises, at that. For a game that I know I'll like and gets great reviews, I look to try to save about $10 or so. A game like GTA might fall in here- it's a quality product but the developers aren't going to starve because I sought out the best deal and perhaps waited a bit. All other games that I'm kind of interested should wait until they're sub $30, and hopefully closer to $20. I'm also trying to cut back on my PC upgrading- while my PC is currently quite capable of all games but GTAIV, I feel compelled to upgrade it since I love the game so damn much. But after that, I'd like to think I'll really hold out for a few years.

What Im supposed to do is have one game that is currently being played for each system that I own. Therefore, Ill have at least three games on the go (Wii, PS3 and DS), with maybe a couple of retro games Im working on.

Unfortunately, I dont stick to this rule, and I have a huge backlog of games I havent played much of, which really sucks. My girlfriend thinks I have a problem. She's probably right :(

I kept RE5 and Halo Wars out of the 20+ I got from gamefly in the last couple months. I really the whole try before you buy, more games I play though I relize most I don't need to own and am perfectly happy renting and playing until Im bored and getting a new game.

I just wait several months after a game's release for the price to go down and then buy it.

I buy newer games once they hit $30-40, and use www.goozex.com to trade for older games. Gold old games is also a good source.

My strategy is this: I go to a store and sift through their whole library of games, maybe buy a couple of them. I then leave and walk to another store. I repeat that a few times until I eventually end up with a bunch of games I've never heard of and can't be bothered to research.

This is my strategy, although I do occasionally buy a few new games I've heavily anticipated. For Nintendo DS, I'm constantly buying older games online for cheap, taking however long to beat them, and sell them back when I finish. Even if the game is rubbish, I wait so many months before going back to see if my opinions change. I've been watching the price for Skate and Untold Legends on PS3 for the games to reach my opinions of their worth.

I don't really have to do much:P I only got my PS3 last summer, so I'm just working my way through all the cheapie's. I have only bought maybe 3-4 games full price.

1. List the games that i find interesting. 2. Check at least three game review sites for ratings (gamespot, ign, etc) 3. Rent or borrow the game if it's a short 1-time play game (like heavenly sword or god of war) 4. Go buy it if it's super replayable.

I usually go by a few simple rules:

1. If it's from Bioware I'm going to get it as soon as it's released. These guys have a bulletproof release history (apart from that Sonic game).

2. If it's a non-Bioware RPG, I'm going to wait for reviews.

3. Star Wars games used to be a shoo-in for me until they released that god-awful Force Commander game.

I buy Xbox games if they are decently reviewed and under $7. That's about the extent of my strategy.

My general strategy is pretty whimsical, actually... I picked up Saints Row 2 on an absolute random desire, despite not being a heavy sandbox player, and I actually enjoyed it. Usually, just going with my gut and picking games off shelves works for me. Though, sometimes I'll buy a game after being convinced by a friend or someone online; Valkyria Chronicles is a great example of this.

For most games: I only buy them when the have at least decent reviews. As I have little time to play, I usually wait for the game to hit the bargain bin. Currently I play most of my games on the DS. There are so many good titles I haven't played yet, so I would say it's a tad silly to pay the full price for a game.

Since my local (and only) video game store was closed down (damn you, economics!) I have to go to another city just to buy games. I mostly select older games or ones I think that won`t be there next time.

I must admit, I'm not very discriminating when it comes to buying games. I have the money, so I usually buy what I want. I have found that unless I have to play it as soon as it's released, I tend to wait for a sale or price drop. I also find that I'll pick up just about any game I'm mildly interested in at the $10 point (thank you Best Buy) and I'll grab anything at the $5 price. (games are games, and you never know then a hidden treasure will pop up)

If you are happy to sit a few months behind the latest craze then you can still play all the games you want, but at a much cheaper price. There is no way I would have bought as many games if they were all full launch price. With single player games there is no difference playing it at launch or 6 months later, the experience is going to be exactly the same. The only difference is multiplayer titles, where they really are best played in the first few months.

For me Gamefly is really the only way to really stay on top of all the new games that come out. Buying every new release that "sounds" good is lame, even if you have money to burn.

But for buys I usually wait until the price is way down and have already played the game to know if I really want to own it or not.

I haemorrhage money on games. I make plenty sure but I sometimes wish this hobby wasn't so expensive! It does force me into buying only the very best so I spend a lot of time checking out review and previews and I very rarely buy something that didn't get great reports before hand.

I don't buy new games anymore. $60 is a ridiculous price to pay, and will only be done for musthaves(which are few and far between nowadays). I'd rather wait 6 months and get 3 for the price of 1. Case in point - I just bought Mirrors Edge, Last Remnant and Left 4 Dead for $85. Had I bought them 3 months ago it would have been $180.

Trade things in. I'm not a fan of multiplayer so I usually ditch games once I beat them once or twice.

i usually research a game first, i have been burned in the past, it is usually easy to tell if it is a game ill like then i go out to buy it. i also make sure it scored well on websites, such as this. if several games come out at once, i just pick the one that i think i will enjoy the most.

1. Has to be for a system I own. Won't buya new system just for one or two games.

2. Needs to have been around long enough that it is familiar to players (reveiws).I like themalready playedout, away from the hype.

3. Should have a solid majority of players who agreed upon it being good.

4. Because of all the above, it's usually a used game purchase, or in a bargain bin. I can get more of them this way.

I am a little over the place. If I am highly anticipating a title that I am sure to enjoy, I'll pay full price. Others, I tend to wait until it drops in price to an extent. I am always looking out for older games that have become dirt cheap (bought gothic 1, 2, and 3 for twenty bucks for example). Finally, I keep an eye out for weekend deals Steam (and Impulse occasionally) offers. I have a copy of Left 4 Dead I got for 25 when full price was 50.
