Halo 2 - Great, and then the ending happened. Big "What the hell? That was it?" moment

LoL That was my exact react when I finished Halo 2!
In my opinion, the order of best to worst is Halo 3, Halo 2, and then Combat Evolved. I guess a lot of people weren't into it, but I really like how the story develops into something bigger in the later Halos. In Combat Evolved, it just seemed like it was the Chief against the Covenant, but later, you really get a feel of an all out universal war with alliances, betrayals, etc.
As for the mainline Halo games I felt they got progressively better even though it was pretty awesome to begin with. The introduction of online in the second one really put it over the top even though it's cliffhanger ending was a letdown. The third one really impressed the hell out of me with it's 4-player campaign mode, the Forge level editor, and the totally awesome saved film feature. I play a large number of online games and every single time I keep thinking how great it would be if those other games had the same kind of save film feature as Halo 3.
Edit: As for Halo Wars I thought they made an excellent RTS game set in the Halo universe. It did feel a little on the skimpy side with only one campaign to play through but was there was very well done and very enjoyable.
I don't really have a rating for them in mind, but I really, really enjoyed Halo: CE. And it was a great LAN game. Halo 2 was fairly disappointing. The gameplay was not anything up to that of the first game. And the multiplayer wasn't as good either. I barely played the third. Not having a 360 makes playing a little difficult.
