Started gaming at 3 or 4 years old.
Super Mario World on the SNES. I still have that game to this day. :D
I started gaming on the PC in the late 80s and then played my first console games on my friend's SNES. EDIT: ...and Sega Master System.
Thinking back now, I realised I was a hardcore gamer when I could clock games like Doom, Quake and Half Life on the hardest difficulty without much effort.
Like every kid in the 90's I played Genesis, SNES...the basics. I think I became a little more serious when I started playing RTS on PC (Command and Conquer, Starcraft, Age of Empires). Which in turn made me fall in love with multiplayer. Now I always have to be on a multiplayer, and I play non multiplayers on the side.
I'm 18 now...so yeah, I guess I started at like 8-9.
I had a Genesis which my uncle got me and my bro. We were 4. Been gamers since then.
We've owned a Genesis, previously we had an Atari but the Sega got us into gaming for realz0r. D: Then came N64, PS1, DC and PS2. I haven't had many consoles and I'm so out of next-gendom. T_T
I was a teen in the 80's so I saw it all unfolding before my little beady eyes. While everyone else had an Atari or Commodore, I ended up with a TI 99/4a after the big rebate sale... and it was horrible. I snagged a Timex Sinclair 1000 at a yard sale and that was even worse. Good thing there were some good arcades around and friends that had consoles.
I started playing in the NES (Mario), then in PC with Dark Forces, Doom 95 n Wolfenstein (DF is currently installed in my pc....is really amazing!!!!!)
I can´t stop playing!!!!
I am 17...
I'm 20, and I was probably around five when I became a gamer (~1991-1992). I was always bugging my parents for money so I could play the arcade machines in the laundromat (Contra was my favorite, I think), so my dad got me a used NES with Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt. I just wouldn't stop playing. I'd stay isolated in my room for most of the morning playing Mario. Eventually, my dad imposed a one-hour time limit on my gaming, which was sad. I had tons of fun with the NES. Kirby, TMNT2: TheArcade Game, and Rush n' Attack were also faves of mine. Got a Master System several years later with a bunch of games I don't remember, except that I got both cartridges and cards, and one of the games was called "Quartet".
My best friend had a Genesis, and I was obsessed with Sonic and Streets of Rage 2 whenever I went over to his house. My grandpa got a used SNES at an auction to play with at his house every day after school. Later on my dad got a used SNES that I could play at home. Man, the little kid that was Angry_Beaver had a blast those two generations, even though my library of games from those periods is still, to this day, rather limited (as it is with all my systems, actually... but only so recently because I spent tons of money on other systems). My favorite SNES games were Darius Twin, F-Zero, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong, and Metal Warriors. Got a Genesis several years later, with the first two Sonic games and Streets of Rage 2. :D
The next generation I got an N64 just because of Super Mario 64. Man, was that game awesome! My favorites from that generation include SM64, Rogue Squadron, Star Fox 64, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask. OoT quickly became my favorite once I got it.
Last generation I had all three systems--GC, Xbox, and PS2, bought in that order in successive years, I believe, starting in early 2002... I think. My GC library is the largest, but I still only havefewer than 15 games for it [that I want to keep]. I got the Xbox simply because of Halo, which I had tried out at a friend's house. Bought a PS2 to try MGS2, which I had seen played at another friend's house. After thoroughly enjoying it, I had to purchase The Twin Snakes for the GC, as I had never owned the PS version (though admittedly, I could have bought it and played it on the PS2, but I guess I wanted the updated graphics :P). I started PC gaming at the end of the generation when I custom-built a really nice PC. Morrowind and Oblivion were (and still are, to an extent) my PC gaming addictions.
This generation I have a Wii and, however painful it will be to abstain, will not be buying either of the other two consoles, just for monetary reasons.
Also had a GBC. Had all three Zeldas and Pokemon Blue and Silver, and they all rocked!
Did a trade with my uncle for his GBA (original model). I have eight GBA games now, and except for FF: Dawn of Souls and FF4, I love them all! Both Zeldas, both Golden Suns, and both Metroids. Sold the GBA and the games (at the time, I had Zelda: ALttP and Super Mario Advance, but rebought Zelda later), which was a mistake.
Got a DS later, and its ability to play both GBA and DS games really makes this Beaver happy.
My only problem has been vacillation--I found it, and still do find it, very difficult to make a buying decision for a game system. I had buyer's remorse after buying the Wii. Trying to decide on one's sole console after having all three last gen ones is really tough!
Anyway, that was pretty much my whole gaming history. What? Oh, I guess I more than answered the question. :P
God I think i might have been 4 or 5. I was living in Yugoslavia at the time, and I went to a birthday party of a neighbour of mine. She had a Atari 1600 and we were playing a racing game of some sort. As soon as I tried it, I was hooked. Little did I know how much my life changed that day.
PS: to the OP, great topic.
The earliest I remember is playing my SNES as a little kid. I don't remember the exact age. I just remember playing games a lot. The games that stand out as what I played the most is Super Mario World, Contra III, Yoshi's Island, and Donkey Kong Country 3.
