When it comes to XBL/PSN, MP gaming has grown over the years since the dawn of Xbox when it introduce live, follow by PlayStation Network. Xbox 360 begin to charging people for it's live but PS3 was free and now with PS4 & Xbox One online fees, both offer the same price and my question is, how much will you pay?

Me I won't and don't pay full online fee price $60, nope! $20 or below is my minimum and I can find great discount deals for prepaid cards on a 1 year card.

$0. I've never paid for it. I don't like most multiplayer games that much and it's just not worth it. If I really feel the urge I'll get the PS3 out. Pay to spend time with the worst toxic gamers and hear their crap? I'm gonna pass. I still have free time codes for Xbox that I haven't bothered to use.

If we're just talking online play then, I dunno, like $20... I'm only okay with paying for Plus since it comes with "free" games and additional discounts when it comes to sales. Currently I haven't bothered renewing my subscription for a good few months because PS+ offerings haven't been appealing enough to me, mostly because they've been games I've already played. As it is, I won't even pay the $60 price tag for a year. I'll go on eBay and find a year for about $50 instead.

I wouldn't say it's all that bad when it comes to playing online MP, it all depends what game are you really playing. Back on the 360, I met some really cool people playing online like Halo 3 & Gears of War 3. Same for PS3 to PS4.

I admit, I hardly do any MP nowadays, even on my PC, I don't even try to play nay MP games, I'm more into single player gaming now, and since my PS+ expires this November, I may not resubscribe, even if I find a discount prepaid 1 year card.

I only get the 3-month plan of PSN when I'm home. I think it's $20. I'd pay $30 max.

@davillain-: What I've wanted for years now is an alternative price model for those that only want the multiplayer, and not wanting those subscriber 'free' games and discounts.

If both Sony and Microsoft offered this package? I would imagine the price model should be roughly 30% its current demand, due to the lack of discounted and shoved software. So for you Americans price of $60 it would be $18.

Like everyone else free would be ideal. However I know that's not going to happen, but current demand is too high, and that's why till MH: World all my online gameplay is on P.C. and 3DS.

All depends on what you get for that I guess. Right now I'm fine with paying the current price of $60 for the yearly subscription to Xbox Live. The service is pretty good and many of the free games offered for both the 360 and Xbox One are quite good as well. I also play a lot online so that makes it worthwhile for me as well.

Whatever the cost is sadly. I play a lot of games online for X1/PS4, so I end up setting it to auto renew. If a deal pops up during the year for less, then I will buy that to delay the auto renew at full price.

Depends on where you go & live. like Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, any place that are doing some kind of huge sales, you can find some good deals on Gold/PS+ prepaid cards like half-price off but I'm mainly talking about U.S here. If I see 1 year prepaid card for like between $20-$30, I'll buy it in a heartbeat. I'm NOT paying $60, that's downright wrong for charging online fee.

I totally be okay with this if both offer just to pay for MP gaming only, I understand maintaining online isn't easy to do and cost they need to spend money is understandable for charging but $60 a year is just really pushing it.

£0.

i play zero mp these days. once you're on the wrong side of 30 it gets trickier and trickier to co-ordinate mates to all get online at the same time. and i've lost that competitive streak for standard mp stuff, in fact since turning 30 my skills seem to be deteriorating more with each passing year. i feel like i'd have to dedicate a ton more time than i used to to stand any kind of chance with most mp games.

the lesson here - don't grow old, kids

@davillain-: Personally think "pushing it" is even an understatement Dav.

It's corporate greed at its finest. And the only reason why they get away with it at this current price, is because it's now an essential mandatory service to play games online on every major platform; that's not Nintendo or P.C. respectfully. And even Nintendo are joining the paid service lounge soon.

Worst thing is most are simply ok with it, sure I've paid for Xbox Live for a few months for the amazing Gears of War series, and my PS4 has had PSN+ for a year at least thanks to Bloodborne and Dark Souls III.

However. Outside of select games, I simply refuse to pay for a service that shouldn't even be half the asking price realistically.

It'll never be free on Xbox or Playstation, not now that they know it's overall accepted. . Yet I think cutting some slack with alternative packages would be appreciated by customers, and may even increase console sales further overall.

I pay it to make the most of my console rather. It's a shame and I guess I'm ok for now as we get monthly games which haven't been so bad as of late. At least there's always something to be played on month to month basis.

I guess I would say we need more added value but on that I think prices will probably increase. I will however draw a line and once that has been crossed I'll be sure to cancel.

Is it worth it at the moment? I wouldn't say it is quite there yet. so may not be long till I cancel haha.

@davillain-:

I can do well with 60, maybe even 70. I only have to once a year, anyway.

£35 maximum. When i was using the Xbox 360, i paid at most £30 a year. Didn't really feel i was getting a lot for my money with this, felt a bit ripped off that in order to watch Netflix and NBA (which i subbed for), i had to pay further to access Xbox Live. It changed in it's latter years to include a free game or two (once they cut the paywall to accessing Netflix.

PSN, i've never paid above £33. With it's new rise now, i topped up another year to 2019. Already snapped up a 2nd year through the E3 sales. I quite like PSN, because i have a Vita it's about 4 games a month on average i would get (more 4 in 2013/14, now it's more 2 as a lot i've already got. But it's still worth it, especially when you can get approximately £40 worth of games out of it.

When Sony said PS+ was required for online play in 2013, it didn't bother me as i paid for Xbox Live before so was used to paying for online access. With it going to £50 a year now, unless it's something Sony have in mind to improve the service, even i find £50 hard to swallow.

@davillain-: PS+ costs more than Live.

But anyway, theres easy ways to avoid paying for it on both systems. I havent paid for Live in a few years. Just use the Xbox Rewards program and you get enough points from buying games and web searches that it'll cover your yearly Live sub easily. I average about $15/month in credit. I'm pretty sure PS has the same type of rewards system but I never bothered with it since I dont play on the Playstation.

Be careful where you buy those discounted PS Plus/Xbox live cards. Major retailers are fine, but there are some shady websites selling them for way to good to be true prices. They are laundering money from stolen credit cards. Word to the wise.

Literally takes like 5 minutes a day of your time.
