I guess it and Nintendo DS technically are Legacy Platforms, now.

This. The PS2 is still technically supported by Sony, yet it is heavily talked about here. The same is true with the PSP and DS, given each of them are supported more than the PS2 at the moment.
If we counted Legacy titles as consoles that have games sold at Gamestop, even Gamecube wouldn't be legacy just yet.
Since it's successor is available I'd say right about now. But as long as it says PSP in the Sony PSP / Vita forums that would probably be the best place for topics regarding it.

For the purposes of this forum, I just consider it to be anything not covered in the other system forums so, yeah, as long as it is PSP-slash-Vita and DS-slash-3DS then threads on those systems should go there.
I say consoles shouldn't be legacy until people start bringing them up out of nostalgic memory, not simply because their succesors are out. If games are still being made for them and the market is still good, what's the point of bringing them up as a Legacy consoles? The PSP (and DS as well) are still current gen systems.
Technically it isn't because it's still selling (in modern game shops) and because (officially licensed) games are still made for it. But from a generational perspective it can count for a legacy platform since it's successor (the Vita) was already released.
When PS4, WiiU and XboxNext are released, then officialy this gen will be dead. 3DS and Vita are next gen at this moment, but PSP and DS still are current gen.
When Sony stops making the PSP E1000 series which is the current version of PSP. There is still a few games being released for 2012 for PSP. Final Fantasy Type 0 is supposed to be release for PSP and PSvita. The PSP is still selling well in Japan. Sony still makes the PSP 3000 for North America with the current bundle having a 2GB memory card and 2 pack in games.
The PSP is a legacy system right now. As PSvita is now Sony's current Handheld, But I give it 1 more year of PSP Games being released sports titles, RPGs, kids games, and a few other throw away movie tie ins.
Jan 2013 PSP will mostly be dead. Sony didn't state that PSP would be supported for ten years.

No they aren't, 3DS and Vita are current gen handhelds while PSP and DS are last gen. It's like when people refer to the 360 and PS3 as "next gen" consoles when they are clearly current gen ones (and soon to become last gen actually).
Also when the next gen consoles come this gen will still be going strong.
