I've noticed that when I upgrade systems the old system for the most part gets put in the closet and just collects dust (figuratively speaking, I try to keep it dust free).

When I got a Gamecube, my SNES got put aside, when I got a PS2 my Gamecube got put aside, when I got a PS3 my PS2 got put aside.

While I still have many great games I've never tried or finished, I just can't seem to be bothered to go back to them once I move up the game system ladder.

What about you?

I usually play the newest one the most but I always have the old systems to play whatever I feel like on them. I would rather play a great old game over a garbage new game just for the sake that it's new.

I used to trade my old systems in toward purchasing a new system. Now I'm buyin' all the old ones back again, including a few I never had. To be honest, my NES and Sega Genesis get played more than my PS3.

I would imagine that most of the people that post here are gonna vote yes since they are interested in vintage systems, hence being here.

I play my old ones; depends on what mood I'm in. I don't look at them as in a certain period anyway. I look at how great the game is.

Of course. I've got an Xbox 360, but neither my NES, SNES or Genesis have gathered any dust.

its a complete pain , it would have been much simpler if the PS3 simply played PS2 games, and sony should find a way to do that, they might develop a method once they stop producing the PS2 it would let me put my PS2 into storage and clear some room for another console. but yes I still play older and newer games, because I judge graphics based on when a game was released and on what system , and as long as the gameplay is good, I don't mind how old or new a game is.

I like to, especially when there are dips in current gen software. That's the time you pick up games you missed from the last gen. This is a major reason why I'm not a fan of the 360--chances are I wont be able to play the games I missed when new systems are launched.

Yes, but it depends on the system. I sold my PS1(not the games) once I got the PS2, since the PS2 was BC, same thing happened when I got a PS3, I sold my PS2 cause my PS3 was BC with PS1/PS2 games. But I still have the old systems like SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn and Sega Dreamcast:D. I never owned a Gamecube, but if I had, I would've probably sold as well when I got Wii.

I am just as much of an old school gamer as I am a gamer of today. I still like to take out my old gaming systems and play through them every now and then. I still buy old systems and old games, even to this day.

I like playing good games. I'll admit, I probably play my 360 more than my other systems but thats because online content keeps things so fresh. I find this to be apparent especially in games like Halo Reach. The ability to make custom maps and game types leads to endless possibility. Answering the original question, I never "upgrade" because that implies replacing something. All my systems (unless I have a fully backwards compatible newer system i.e. GC on Wii) are hooked up and in working order.

Well the thing was at first they had a PS3 that was backwards compatible through hardware but that was $600(a.k.a. too expensive to produce). Then they made one that emulated a PS2 through software but it wasn't fully compatible. By now they probably have a successfully working software emulator that they'll charge you for eventually.

I came across this the other day, rumor maybe, but it's not all that far fetched. It seems Sony has a patent for a hardware based PS2 add-on for the PS3 (PS2 without the cd drive?) Apparently it's just a patent, which basically means, "Ooo good idea! Let's save that one."

My knee jerk reaction was to go Noooo Sony! Remember the 32X and the SegaCD! But it might not be that bad of an idea, it's more like the Sega Power Base Converter lol

For a while when I got my PS3, I didn't touch the PS2. Now after downloading some old PSOne Classics and finding some good deals on PS2 games I never got around to trying, plus the handful of games I owned but never finished, I spend a lot more time on my PS2 than I do the PS3. It's actually been kind of neglected, save for some newer sports titles.

Here in Europe it was worse, in the US and Japan , all of the early PS3 models had hardware BC with the PS2, so the vast majority of games worked fine. In Europe, early PS3s had software BC, which is a roundabout term for emulation , which meant that most games had issues, and many didnt work at all . My brother owns one of these and it has issues playing MGS3 Subsistence (sound and picture issues) , Final Fantasy 10 , and others ive tried, alot of times the games have issues with the colours onscreen looking kinda funny, its a mess. I think if Sony really put some effort into it , they could make the PS3 BC with the PS2 , its just not cost effective for them at the moment considering the PS2 is still technically at retail.

I don't play my GBC much and gave my GBA away to my bro. But I still play N64 and PS1. I'm sure that when I finally get a current-gen system I'll still play my GC and PS2 a lot.

I do, unless I have the backwards compatability option. For example, I don't use my PS1 anymore since I can play my PS1 games on my PS2 instead.

I used to, and to some extent if/when a new system comes in, others get left powered-off but I keep old ones around most of the time. At the same time, around 10 years ago I sold my N64 + games and a lot of Dreamcast games to put toward getting my PS2 system.

I still use my old systems all the time after getting new ones. Usually when a new game for a new system comes out that I'd like to play it gets much more focus, but I usually return to an older system upon finishing the game. Oddly enough, I also have more PS games downloaded onto my PS3 than actual PS3 titles.

Absolutely! There are 5 Nintendo consoles. My favorite is the Super Nintendo. Had the N64, and the Gamecube, and the wii for a short time. but I eventually got rid of the 3 upgraded systems from the big "N"

Still play Supernintendo, even thought I have Xbox 360 and PS1,PS2,PS3

Yes I still play my old systems (every now and then) despite having the current generation

When I was a kid, I sold my SNES so that I could buy N64 games. And man was that the biggest thing that I ever regret in my life. But thankfully though I bought a snes again. Every console that I own I keep to the very end this time.
