Sick of seeing JRPGs relegated to handhelds. They should be front and center on the consoles with all the other top genres.DarkCatalyst
Exactly. I don't know why developers continue to think that JRPGs would do beter on handhelds than on consoles. A few exceptions can be made though, such as the Final Fantasy IV Collection on PSP.

It's too expensive to produce them on consoles these days.

Yeah, but they're also expensive to produce on handhelds too.

Very unfortunate, because I am loving Lost Odyssey right now and would love for a sequel to happen.
That game and Tales of Ves. are on my 'to buy list'Hei, this again -.-' For JRPGs it's pretty much PSP > NDS >>>>> PS3 >> Wii > x360, you can have a blast on portables this gen, I still own about 5 JRPGs I haven't even started xD

That game and Tales of Ves. are on my 'to buy list'You won't regret your purchase with Tales Of Vesperia. It's currently my favorite RPG on the XBox 360, but Lost Odyssey is getting to be very close in taking over that spot for me. I just wish Namco hadn't screwed over the fans by releasing an updated version solely on the PS3 and therefore giving an incomplete version of Vesperia on the 360. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a completed product in a sense, but what they did with the PS3 version, from what I uderstand, puts the 360 version to shame. That makes me angry as all hell!
...and then, to make matters worse, we ('mericans) don't even get the better PS3 version. I did not understand either choice tbh -the voice work was done (in English) on the PS3 version...so all costs except for advertising here were sunk costs -in this day of DLC, why not just offer the extra stuff to Xbox ownersrawsavon
The actor who plays Yuri (the main hero in Vesperia) said, in an interview awhile back, that the cast were brought back in to do extra voicework, so it may still be a possibility for it to come out. If it does, I wouldn't mind shelling out the cash for a PS3 and Vesperia. And no, I wouldn't buy it just for Vesperia...there are other games that I would love to try out, like Demon's Souls, for example.
Sick of seeing JRPGs relegated to handhelds. They should be front and center on the consoles with all the other top genres.DarkCatalystAgreed! These games are best played on a TV. Squinting to read the text and play them for hours on end on a portable is a pain.

I like them being on handhelds tbh ...those graphics work well on the fornat ...no need to be big budget IMO (big budget means less games b/c of more risk risk, less inovation, etc) Also, I do most of my gaming while 'busy' in the morning
[QUOTE="DarkCatalyst"][QUOTE="Metamania"]You won't regret your purchase with Tales Of Vesperia.Dracula68I regretted it. Same here and I only paid $20.
I never said everyone would like it though. I only said that it would be a purchase that some will not regret buying. Like myself.

I've never understood the draw of the Tales series. It was never any good and when the developers finally modernized it all they did was copy Star Ocean.
Yeah, but you know, I'm always down for railing the industry about the pathetic state of the genre.Didn't we have this thread last week?

If Mistwalker has set the bar for console JRPGs this gen, then it is little wonder why the genre has gone down the toilet. Though I don't own a PS3, so I can't really speak much to that console's offerings and I never got around to playing Star Ocean 4. So maybe there are some good ones out there. But the subgenre may have died with the end of the PS2 era.

There's some decent stuff going on with the PS3. Signs of life for sure.[QUOTE="QuistisTrepe_"][QUOTE="DarkCatalyst"] Yeah, but you know, I'm always down for railing the industry about the pathetic state of the genre.

I am in that mode now. For the first time I will not be buying every console when the next gen systems launch. I got 2 collecting dust as is. I agree the portable market has some greeat JRPG's but I would like to play them on the big screen. I wish someone would invent an updated "whatever that was called that allowed you to play GB games on the GC." I still have that in my closet somewhere.

The Game Boy Player, heh, I still have that actually.

Even if you'll miss out on Demon's Souls, there's always Dark Souls.
I'm not very fond of handheld gaming, games are a lot more fun to play on a home console or PC. Which is why I wish most this generations JRPGs weren't only available on the PSP or DS. So far there aren't too many console JRPGs this generation. Tales of Vesperia, Star Ocean 4 and White Knight Chronicles are all great games, but it's not enough.
The console market is being dominated by repetitive, cookie cutter shooters, so I guess that's why we're not seeing a lot of JRPGs this generation like we did last generation.
I don't understand why these shooters are so damn popular. Some of them are good though, such as Team Fortress 2 and Killing Floor because those games are original. But when every other FPS out there tries to be like Call of Duty, it get's boring and repetitive. I feel like I'm playing the same game over and over again.
I want Persona 5, Dark Cloud 3 and Kingdom Hearts 3!!!
I'm guessing there are tons of great ones that you missed out on from past generations

This should be a good guide. Sadly, I think most good JRPGs are from past generations
I want Lost Odyssey 2 fragile_soul
I hear you. Lost Odyssey was one of my very best experiences this gen. I wish Mistwalker would come back to the 360.
I know it's a KRPG, but Magna Carta 2 was pretty great. Would love another.
And Resonance of Fate 2.... I'll leap for joy if that happens.
Sadly most of the JRPGs this gen are on portables. 360 had a good run for a while but that stopped. Same with PS3.
I want more console JRPGs! Portables are good but they dont do the sweet graphics of consoles.
Check my games list if you want RPG ideas, have tons of them :)
i wish there were more jrpgs but yet i still have a few to play, and valkyria chronicles and lost odyssey are awesome probably the best 2 i have played this gen so far. i also have been playing tons of old great ones from snes and ps1 (wish i could play ps2 jrpgs)
Dude get a vita I think most of the good jrpgs on psp are already on psn to download and if I'm not mistaken you can play downloaded psp games on vita, plus the jrpg tred will probably continue on to vita. As for jrpgs I'm hoping that eventually ff13 versus will make its way to ps3, also tales of graces f is announced, disegea 4 is coming soon. Also hopefully kh3, persona 5, and tales of xillia, hey I can dream right ;)
