I hate to be one of those people that talk about the Great Past, but seriously, where are they? It didn't seem that long ago when CoD modern warfare, the Mass Effect trilogy, Halo, Fallout, & many other incredible works were on the market.

When I come back & check the market now, I can't seem to find anything interesting to look at on a website that used to focus on great games. Now it just seems like any crap game that comes along gets dumped on the website & interferes with finding the high-quality games that we used to have so many of in the past.

Where's the good stuff? Is there a better site out there where you get the goods on the great games? Or are we stuck with just following the video game publisher/producer websites for new things?

It's just weird how there isn't any new incredible games on the market as there once was. Or that it's just a very small handful, nothing like it used to be. There doesn't seem to be any new creative content either, at least not before. It's always built on top of something that came before, much like infinite Hollywood Reboots.

Shelves on our local Gamestop are always full of new and interesting games. but if you shop at your local supermarket, you will only see the most popular games on the shelves, and will totally miss out on the less known releases for your chosen console.

I constantly find titles for PS4 at Gamestop I've never even heard about on GS or IGN news. And when I play them they usually turn out to be very good indeed, and very fresh.

So, if you cannot find anything new or interesting, find a better store with wider selection of games. And stop googling for new games too, as google is programmed to favour big game companies, and thus will not show you any small dev releases.

Well the quality of AAA games has certainly decreased as well as the quantity. To top it all off, some of the biggest gamest his year have been absolute cons, the LOTR game, BF2, NBA etc etc

Yeah it's ture, GS does a horrible job talking about games. They always chase after the next big AAA title and make docents of articles about it while ignoring AA and indies. If there is time to waste, they usually fill it with non-gaming stuff like the next super hero movie or series.

There are however a lot of great games out there. You just shouldn't use Gamespot to find them.

I think there are plenty good giames you just have to look at the ones that aren't presented like they are everything. Like indie games, Nintendo games, medium priced games like Prey and Divinity OS2.

I love Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. But EA and WB would rather make cash grabs instead of quality games. Same goes for Activision and Ubisoft. I'm not into paywall extortion content. I haven't bought a game since last spring. I might buy Monster Hunter in January if Capcom doesn't get greedy.

Great AAA games are a rarity in this generation ever since 2014 it's been weak compared to last gen and most of the gens before that not counting Atari. The problem is the publishers have become extremely greedy hence lootboxes and microtractions. They are afraid to take risk on new IP'S this is the lazy generation where remasters and remakes are a easy way to make a buck rather then coming up with news Idea's. The gaming industry needs a crash to teach these greedy Publishers that's it not all about their shareholders it's about consumers and it's about developers being able to create a game that they want passion projects not the same old rehash trash.

you're basically saying there are no decent single player games, as all the games you mentioned are single player games, and yeah I agree.

Annoyingly single player games don't make as much money as multiplayer games now, multiplayer games tend to have a longer shelf life plus with all the annoying loot boxes/multiplayer dlc/extras that's the direction studios really aim towards, cos money.

@jknight5422: Not sure what this thread is aiming at, other than a lack of willing to do (any) research from OP.

I mean, if the only games you bought in 2017 was Starwars II, and Mass Effect IV? (basing this on you list of interest) Then sure, they're not good. However_

Plenty of brilliant games from a variety of genres. Some of the best games from those respecting genres in years are just waiting for you to try out. Look at what your platform is offering.

I don’t want to be that guy either but if you’ve not found anything you think is a great game after the year we’ve just had. Where in my opinion we’ve had so many great games in so many different genres then...

Maybe gaming is just not for you.

They're on PC...

...and Playstation. And Xbox. And Nintendo.

2017 has been incredible. And a year ago I was saying "OMG 2016 was incredible!"

I don't know what games people who get all down on gaming have been playing, but shit's good, man.

This is a little off topic and a odd comparison but look at all the quality tv series out there all these original Idea's it can be done in gaming it's just that the AAA Publishers just want to keep making sequels. TV is so much better then new games these days and I hate to say it but it's true.

Oh no there are no good games anymore. Everything was better when i was a kid and could sit indoors and play

Is what i heard from the OP, but maybe it´s just not you and gaming anymore and don´t worry gaming wont be sad or cry if you go find other interests.

Because for the rest of us there are still plenty of decent and a few great games out there.
