With all the advancements in graphics, physics, gameplay and multiplayer experiences, it feels like the artificial intelligence in games hasn't progressed very much. Pretty disappointing imo. It becomes even more apparent with the numerous zombie games that uses its premise as an excuse to not try at all to make smart enemies. I don't know where this thread can go, as it's just something i wanted to get off my chest as the next gen is coming along. Anyone feels the same?

F.E.A.R games, Killzone 2 & 3 and RAGE all have great A.I.

I miss Resident Evil 4's AI, where they would react to your movements.

In Resident Evil 6, the enemies reacted in the same way (if they even reacted at all) whether I shot them in the arm or the kneecaps.

Their AI wasn't reall good be they compensated for that with great enemy design.

If I recall correct, one of the promising concept aspects of the original Xbox One plan of having a system perpetually connected online was that they were hoping to use it in the racing game, to collect human players driving patterns and have the AI mimic those. Maybe it isn't exactly true reactive AI, but it did sound less predictable/zombie-like.

Hah. It's been a few weeks and we can't shake this topic. Sure folks rage quit over oppressively hard games, but the CPU shouldn't do the vg equivalent of bending over with its @$$ cheeks and a drunken burp out to raise our self esteem either.

Its too contrived, and it could risk a player not paying attention.

Devs have been making games easier with weak AI to attract more casual, impatient, easily pissed off gamers.

I agree with you. I imagine every game in the world is going to be played online with all real players before anyone manages to come with any impressive AI lol.. Still, there are a few pretty good ones out there like army of two and rage and such.. There's really nowhere anyone can go from here but forward. Definitely too many zombie games though. They need to cut that out, cause it got old quick. :o
