Poll Which among these do you think is the best FPS franchise? (37 votes)

Call of Duty 3%
Battlefield 11%
Destiny 0%
HALO 22%
Wolfenstein 3%
DOOM 19%
Far Cry 0%
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 0%
Medal of Honor 0%
Half Life 16%
Bioshock 3%
Counter Strike 0%
Fallout 3%
Other 22%

FPS games have been with us for quite a while now and each of us has a personal favourite series to which we keep coming back just like any loyal fan would. Which one of these franchises do you swear your allegiance to?

My vote goes to Call of Duty. It has given me some brilliant memories over the years as well as allowed me to experience some fascinating campaigns alongside amazing characters. The best that this series has to offer is definitely among the best in all of gaming.

D00M, by quite the margin. It's a long standing franchise with only one mediocre game.

Ultimate D00M, D00M II, D00M 64, and D00M (2016) are all great games.

Even the pretty underrated DOOM 3.

Heavily disagree

Other I voted for, the problem is that there hasn't been a FPS series that has stayed great DOOM is closest on that list. But games like F.E.A.R. and Crysis are amazing games but their sequels are trash same with Medal of Honor Allied Assault was it's peak then it got dumbed down just like the Battlefield series it's not consistent.

@warmblur: I really loved Allied Assault. Pacific Assault was also decent. But Airborne didn't really click for me and I haven't returned to MoH since. Some of my friends keep suggesting MoH and Warfighter but I haven't tried them yet.

Its funny how COD and Battlefield have got just 3 votes combined. And here I am thinking they are the real deal in terms of FPS games.

it'd probably be half life if i eliminate all the games i didn't really like from the franchises.

all four of the half life games (1, 2, ep1 and ep2) are extremely good games. i don't see another franchise with four huge hitters like that.

cod1, cod uo, cod 2 and cod 4 are probably closest in terms of four high quality games with halo 1, halo 3 and reach in third although the bioshock trilogy runs it close. doom 1 and 2 are just too old for me to consider

I love Halo. CE was really the only FPS I put time into. A lot of nostalgia playing that game.

I want to vote Halo, but then I think it depends on whether we're talking about an FPS shooter or an FPS adventure game. In the latter's case I'd vote Metroid Prime.

I chose Fallout since it's my favorite franchise, but I almost didn't want to because I see them more as RPGs than FPSs. The original games are obviously not FPSs as well. Technicalities aside, I would have gone with BioShock otherwise. They are consistently amazing, particularly the first game and Infinite. Even with BioShock 2 being on the bottom of the ladder, it's still a really good game.

@stjimmy1017: I actually didn't get the chance to play a Zelda game til I was about 11. A friend of mine had owned Link's Awakening and I watched him play a bit once, and then around 99 or 2000 I played a demo of the DX version of the game and became interested. That, coupled with a Zelda childrens' storybook another friend gave to me, got me into Zelda.

If my icon was still Doug when you responded, I watched that as a kid.

I also grew up watching the Tintin cartoon as a kid. It was on at really odd hours of the morning for a while, like 4 AM or so, and I would try staying up allll night to catch it. Half of the time it ended up not being on, and Mr. Wizard was scheduled instead. A few years later they did move the show to afternoons for a bit. Tintin never had a big following in the US, but as a kid I was interested in learning about the comics, Herge and Belgium - it was hit and miss with the Internet in the early-mid 90s.

@Ovirew: Tintin has quite the following in India. Especially where I live. As for video games, we arrived really late to the party. In fact, even today, gaming in India isn't even a fraction of what it is abroad.

@stjimmy1017: Well it sucks to hear you guys are behind a bit, but at least there is a gaming community growing there now. The industry will want to expand into new areas.

@Ovirew: We are behind a LOT. But yes, things are definitely looking better than before as more and more people are gaining access to video games thanks to fall in prices and ofc YouTube! But we have a long way to go.

Doom all the way. Not only for the history or fun factor but because they still to this day offer complete games that don’t require dlc and micro transactions to enjoy them.

Battlefield at this point. I've played ARMA and I like it but I haven't played it enough to truly say that it beats out the other games. Then yet, I can be impressed by realism so it kinda almost beats Battlefield.

Half-Life is the winner for me. To me, Half-Life 2 is not just 1 of the best shooters ever made, it's also 1 of the best games ever made. Just that gravity gun alone is legendary.

Halo is a pretty easy choice for me. The old CoD's are a close second (pretty much the first CoD up to BO1), but most recently I would say Titanfall and BF.
