Not one of those tired and cliched "what are your top five games" threads. Just list the developers. Mine in order:
1. Nintendo
2. Nintendo
3. Nintendo
4. Konami
5. Namco
Coincidentally, all five have memorable and timeless soundtracks.

ITT: A lot of people don't understand the difference between a developer and a publishersavebattery
Or dont remember which team from the publisher it was who made the game
Like Ubisoft or EA own branded dev teams

I guess that's one good thing about this thread, making people aware of who actually made their favorite games instead of some impersonal, monolithic company, i.e., EA, Activision, etc.
On a side note, this thread really indicates the age range of people on here. My formula for calculating age:
On a side note, this thread really indicates the age range of people on here. My formula for calculating age:
- 3 or more Japanese developers = born in the 1970s-1980s
- 1 Japanese developer = born in the 1990s
- 0 Japanese developers = millenials (I hate millenials)

I would actually say that's a false assumption...in fact, quite the opposite could be true.
Aside from Nintendo...my top 5 doesn't include any other japanese developer, despite the fact a good chuck of my favorite games attached to those developers are actually from the 90's, and there is a reason for that.
If someone listed their top 5 developers consisting of such as Black Isle, Bullfrog, Looking Glass Studios, MicroProse, Origin Systems, New World Computing, Mythos Games, Lucasarts Adventure Team....the last assumption for me would be a millenial, despite none of those being Japanese developers.
You can bet someone who was a hardcore PC gamer throughout 90's and whose list is primarily composed of western developers from that era wouldn't have one single japanese developer in their top 5....and that wouldn't be uncommon for someone in their 30's and 40's, especially since the entire decade of the 90's is essentially considered a golden era for PC game development and PC technology.....3D graphics, online multiplayer, online co-op, mods, DLC....all born on PC and made common in the '90s.
I think more indicative of a person's age rage is the time frame of the majority of their games listed.....or even, how they list developers, or even what developers they list, as in this thread.
Or they were more of a PC gamer. I didn't give a crap about consoles until the 90s but I had been gaming for more than a decade before then.GalvatronType_R

It also shows how much more emphasis publishers put on their name/logo over the developers when they release a product. Which is sad.DJ_Lae
I know...
I thought it was a joke when 2K made Irrational Games change their name to "2K Boston"....Thank God they changed it back.
Still, to this day, there are some people who don't realize that Irrational Games is the same 2K Boston that made BioShock....and not only that, they were developing awesome games before BioShock.
1. Ubisoft Montreal ( Splinter Cell series )
2. IO interactive ( Hitman series )
3. Crystal Dynamics (Last 3 Tomb Raiders )
4. Bethesda ( ES series )
5. Eidos Montreal ( Deus Ex HR )
#5 is fairly new, I just finished it for the first time. The spot is always open for change, the top 4 have been that way a long time. I hope they are in for a challenge soon, TLoU, GTAV, Infinite and Sly4 should be worthy contenders.
I know it said top five games but I will continue.
NOTE: List may change

They were once a force to be reckoned with. Now, just a shadow of their former selves... sigh
On reflection, I guess my picks would be these:
- Bethesda Softworks
- Ion Storm
- Valve Software
- Looking Glass Studios
- Lucasarts
I don't know if I can say 5, but I know for sure Bethesda, Ubisoft and Nintendo would be named (AC2, Oblivion, Galaxy 2).
Red Storm Entertainment (before Ubi buy out)
Microsoft ACES
Rail Simulator Developments
Blackfoot Studios (though their game is still in development)
I don't list any Japanese developers as I don't play anything made by a Japanese developer as I haven't seen anything interesting on the PC by any of them, if they make anything at all that is.
I'm 50 so that blows someone's theory out of the water. I am also a PC only gamer.
