I'd say Soul Calibur, though MK is pretty good.
You,what fighting franchise catches your fancy?

Even though I've always been pretty average at fighting games I've always preferred the Street Fighter series, I remember playing the original SF on an arcade machine in a local chip shop when I was a kid. From then till now I enjoyed SF more than any other fighting game but I never got into the SF/Tekken and Marvel hybrids though.
This is the case for all serious fighting games. not really...some are just really simple...and some are 2 hard to get into.... vf is just hard to get into mk is just simpletekken-easy to get into....hard as hell to master.

Does Smash Bros count as a fighter?
Metamania
Ofcourse it does!!!
No. Super Smash Bros is NOT a fighting game. It's a party brawler that uses items to help you. It doesn't count as a fighting game.
Agreed, Smash Bros is not a traditional fighting game.
I would say Marvel vs Capcom 2, Soul Caliber 2, and Dead or Alive 3 are my favorite fighting games. I'm not a huge fan of the genre aside from those games.

It doesn't matter.
It still falls under the fighting genre.

So call it a non-traditional fighting game. There: problem solved.
Dead or Alive
Easy to use moves, combos (most of the time) and gameplay, doesn't take itself too serious, is awesome fun and looks just great (and I don't mean only the boobs of the girls, though they of course do as well xD )

Call it whatever you like; it isn't a fighting game in the same way that Street Fighter/Tekken/Dead or Alive is.

Thank you Captain Obvious.Call it whatever you like; it isn't a fighting game in the same way that Street Fighter/Tekken/Dead or Alive is.Blueresident87
Hence why non-traditional fighter is the perfect label for Smash Bros and its ilk.
Appeal - Mortal Kombat series (who doesn't like cool ninjas killing each other in ancient China/other dimension?)
Best fighter - Street Fighter series

And Mario Kart is not a racing game in the same way that Gran Turismo/Forza/Need For Speed are...
Mortal Kombat, I love the brutal fighting and fatalities. I'm not a huge fighting fan, but I do play them occassionaly.
Either Street Fighter or Tekken. I played SF first but Tekken seemed to edge SF out a few years ago for me.
I've been playing Tekken the longest, so probably that one. Though MK, Blaz Blue, and SSB have also very appealing to play recently.

turn off the items and do 1v1 5stock...seems like a solution to me...it was always a main stay at the tournaments my gaming club in college put on
OT guilty gear is by far and large my favorite fighting franchise
This is the case for all serious fighting games. I find Street Fighter hard to do their moves. Have to crouch down or something and then stand up to do a Hadouken? Wtf. I like to play Tekken. Combos are pretty easy and I like the characters. After that I'd go with the DBZ games, mostly the Budokai ones.tekken-easy to get into....hard as hell to master.

I in no way consider myself even moderately skilled in fighting games, but I'm going to toss a vote for the Virtua Fighter series.Allicrombie
