Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! I received some money, and I decided to purchase a new PC game. I've been kinda disappointed with Brother's in Arms: Hell's Highway (too easy coming from playing the previous BIA games), and I thought asking the community would guide me to a good purchase. I'm looking for a lengthy game or one with big replayablity value... or even both!

Fallout 3: Heard very good things about it. However, (with no experience playing it whatsoever) the VATS system looks like combat would be way too easy, and it looks a lot like Oblivion with guns...

Dead Space: I'm leaning mostly toward this game at the moment. From reviews it seems to have an interesting interface, the gameplay looks really fun, and I'm up for a good scare, so this is my first choice at the moment.

Farcry 2:I'm a big FPS player so why not try Farcry 2? However, I've heard the story isn't very good and the multiplayer doesn't look anything special... so this is last on my list.

Thanks!

My recommendation is you read the reviews by various reliable sources and watch some Youtube game reviews from GT, IGN, or 1up and make a impression from there. That's what I do.

How I see it personally is that Fallout 3 looks like it has the most value because of the nature of the game. It's huge, can last for hours, and is a RPG. But I guess it can get boring, you can get lost, and it could be considered Oblivion with guns. But it's still a fantastic game.

Far Cry 2 on the other hand, I personally don't want it, but that's because I'm not a fan of open-ended FPSs. It's not just that though. I'm reading the backtracking and traveling in this game can be overwhelming and tedious. Also, the shooting parts really isn't that intense as a FPS and all the same experience, unlike the first original Far Cry from Crytek, which was filled with intense moments and great gameplay plus AI. But I never played Far Cry 2, so you may like it. And I'm not saying it's a bad game. It's just those little things I read that's keeping me cautious about the game.

Dead Space on the other hand looks to be a worthwhile survival/horror game, probably one of the better survival/horror games to come out for a while. It's definitely the best survival/horror game for next-gen consoles so far, which only Resident Evil 5 can top. So I highly recommend this game. I'm looking to get it too since everyone's saying it's so good. I'm a huge fan of mystery type of games like this, especially with a sci-fi premise to it. I'm not really a huge fan of survival/horror games that are too demonic or disturbing like Silent Hill which is set in the real-world, but Dead Space is more like Aliens and sci-fi, which is why it's so interesting.

So based on my personal view...I'd either get Fallout 3 or Dead Space.

Thanks ASK_Story for your opinion. I do look at the professional game reviews such as reviews from Gamespot or IGN, (I usually hate GT reviews. 360 fanyboys =P) and more importantly I look at the user reviewers which is usually the best reviews because they show a lot of things that professional reviews don't. Yeah I'm looking more toward Dead Space or Fallout 3. Any more recommendations is really appreciated!

I have played all three, played Fallout 3 for around 10 hours, Far Cry 2 for 15 and Dead Space for 15.

Value for Money: Fallout 3
My favourite: Dead Space
Repetitive: Far Cry 2

I wouldn't bother with Far Cry 2, it's a great game, the gun mechanics are spot in for a FPS, it's just that having to clear out gaurdposts every 5 mins, doing the same missions over and over, gets annoying.

Dead Space I enjoyed very much, it isn't very long, took me around 12 hours to beat it on normal. I liked the story but many people think it's cliche. If you do get this, I highly recommend watching the Animated COmics and the Animated Prequel before playing, adds to the experience in my opinion.

Fallout 3 is just an amazing game in general, I've played 10 hours and haven't even touched the first Mainquest out of Vault 101. Fallout 3 is probably the only game I have played where the sidequests are just so fun and captivating that you just lose yourself in them. And it's so exciting making massive world-changing decisions (I won't say what it is) and wondering what would happen if you went down a different path.

Fallout 3 is easy to recommend, Dead Space may just be an acquired taste so to speak. GL making a decision!

fallout 3 is the best game there imo and will last you the longest, although it is very oblivion like so if you didnt like that then you probably wont like this. the vats system doesnt make things that easy until you have significantly levelled up and is fun to use right to the end.

dead space is definitely worth getting too, its a great looking game, not really scary, more jumpy, but that wears off a bit as you get used to the game and begin to anticipate the jumpy moments in advance. its a bit repetitive but is fun and worth a purchase.

far cry 2 on the other hand should be avoided at all costs, it was my biggest disappointment of the year and is woefully inferior to other acclaimed fps such as crysis and its predecessor far cry. i struggled to get any fun out of that game at all, its just one big frustrating mess. dont believe the hype! :)

I've played a wee bit of Fallout 3, and what I played with the VATS system makes it feel fundamentally different than combat was in Oblivion. "Oblivion with guns" goes right out the door once you actually sit down and give the game some serious play time, despite initial appearances to the contrary.

Stay away from Far Cry 2. I'm grinding through this game to be honest and I must beat this game just so I feel like I got my moneys worth. There's a few good things but the game itself is so repetitive. The missions are basically all the same, point A to point B and kill. Clearing out guard posts every 10 minutes gets old very fast. The guard posts also respawn the enemies. It gets boring very fast when you gotta travel all over the place.

You can't go wrong with Fallout 3 or Dead Space but I'd recommend Fallout 3 first and at a later time, pick up Dead Space.

Fallout 3=Awesome :D

VATS doesn't make it too easy, you have a limit to how much you can use it so dont expect to be able to use it for everything. And keep in mind that there is going to be an expansion coming out in January, Febuary and March.

Point is, you'll get your money's worth with both Fallout 3 or Dead Space if you enjoy these types of games. Fallout 3 does have more value because it's such a long game, but Dead Space, I think, has better action, more intense, and it's also scary.

Fallout 3, Dead Space isn't that good on pc and Far Cry 2 is a love it, hate it type of game, Fallout 3 is the safest choice.

Hello everyone, thanks for your recommendations! I just played Fallout 3 at a friend's house and it is amazing; the choices are so much more vast than TESIV: Oblivion, and everyone is correct the VATS system doesn't make the game so much easier. I thought it would be easy that way because I thought it was an FPS like COD or Crysis, where a single headshot or few shots would kill, yet in Fallout it's more like some breed of RPG stats mixed with shooting. Very unique indeed. Also, just almost everyone recommending Fallout 3 really backups my enthusiasm and confidence and buying this game, so thanks a lot everyone!
