Well a "fun" videogame to me is one that combines a good story, good gameplay & good graphics etc etc. My favourite games are ones that I find fun, which include games like Bioshock, Half-Life 2, Red Dead Redemption, GTA San Andreas, Mass Effect 2 to name a few.
For me a fun game is one that doesn't focus on a story. Minimal brain usage also goes a long way. Just good old, slashing and whatever else floats my boat. Example: Mario Bros. (Nes) Katamari Damacy Lumines Any online shooter, is disqualified. Stops being fun after I get killed for the 20th time in arrow.
No matter how big your katamari gets, you want it bigger. Those count down tones at the end of your time make me crazy. And after you play long enough your thumbs hurt like no other. But it's worth it. :P
I have fun with basically every game I play. When I play on the Wii though, I always get this warm feeling :oops:. I don't care if I get last place in a Mario Cart race, or get my *** kicked in Brawl, I always enjoy myself.
And don't even get me started on Pikmin 2, that game is so laid back, it's amazing.
For me, if we want to talk extremes, fun usually lumps with unadulterated goofiness and loads o' laughs. Obviously I enjoy Halo CE, but its multiplayer is "fun" whereas its single player is "enjoyable". Kind of like in the way I enjoy watching Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers, but I don't necessarily have "fun".
Something like Saints Row 2 co-op is extremely fun.
The question is less obvious than it sounds: there's a difference between games that are immersive and engaging (Oblivion, Fallout) and games that are simply fun and entertaining (Mario Kart, Wii Sports)
Just Cause 2, Plain Sight, Overlord 2, Peggle, Chime and Bulletstorm. Some games for me are just played so I have as much fun without having to put my brain in first gear:)
Genre-wise I'd go with 2d platformers and Action RPGs, particularly when they are difficult.
Looking at specific games: Super Meat Boy, the GBA Castlevania games, classic Megaman games, Megaman Battle Network games, and Star Ocean 3 come to mind.
fun to me is a game you can play over and over and still enjoy it.....a certain bit of a game that you love and would do again. For me fun is call of duty modern warfare 2, xbox 360, online - it's something i just never get bored of and i love. Fun to me is also doing campaigns again, like on call of duty black ops or halo reach. or maybe it's playing nazi zombies or firefight with friends.
