Whichever one does what you want the most, or has the games you want.

Unless you really care about the graphics, the DS has the superior software library. Not only is the DS cheaper, the games are cheaper. If money is an issue that is something to think about.

You should get a psp, it has a lot of pros like view movies, hear your music, surf the web and most important, play games, and also the homebrew stuff , but that you have to find out on your own, we cant comment on that!!.

On the other side if you have like 14 or less years old, buy a DS, much of the games for DS in my opinion are for kids, except mario kart and metroid, (if i miss one title , sorry).

I give a vote to PSP;

PSP-1
DS-0

Not to mention, if you care about quality from "professionals", check out GameSpot's review database. There are FAR more 9 games on the DS than there are on the DS.

And portability? DS wins there too. It's smaller and fits better in your pocket. It's more durable due to its clamshell design.

PSP, the greatest handheld ever. Better games than the DS, more functionalities, etc.

If you go for simple functionality, I would say go with the PSP, just because you can play movies on it, surf the internet etc..

However, I dont find paying $200 (or however much they sell for these days) for the PSP a valuable investment.

I find the DS to be very efficient for playing games, easy and fun to use.

I would say get a DS, and you wont be disappointed.

As an owner of both I can say that the DS is by far the best system I've ever owned. It has an amazing library of games with much variety *screw the review sites, Def Jam isn't better then Phoenix Wright*.

As for the PSP....well just look at my blog.

Indeed, that goes for most of the people in the thread (which should have ended the moment _Bear hit submit in his post). Of course, Shleco already summed it up in his sticky....

Finally, some advice regarding console comparisons. Don't start a thread asking "Should I buy a 360 or a PS3?" or "I think the Wii is the best because...", as it leads to petty fanboyism and the end result is as useful as a bicycle to a fish. There are plenty of places on the main site here at GameSpot where you can do your own research and find out which machine is right for you.Shleco

You can't go wrong either way. I think both are fantastic. So the bottom line is, if you're a Nintendo fan, get a DS. If you want superior graphics and extra features, the PSP is the way to go.

So it's up to you.

And hope you have a happy birthday.

if you want multimedia and your picky about graphics, then i would say go for the psp. want something innovative and different, then go with the ds. both have a great selection of games. hope you have a great birthday, and ur happy with your decision.
