Now with the latest full releases of the two rivals, they are back on different systems and both co sideref a best in their series. But which was better and how? Say you were trying to get someone to buy one or the other.

Both are great games so I would say someone should buy the game from whichever series they like more.

Haven't played Sonic Generations, but there's no way in hell that it's a better-designed game than Galaxy 2. Making a game as technically proficient as that would be a monumental feat in itself.

Both are great games, but I'd have to say I prefer Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I much prefer Sonic Generations. I like the fast-paced action more.

While I have enjoyed Sonic games before I've never found them to be on the same level of the Mario games. Having never played Sonic Generations though going off my previous Sonic experiences I highly doubt I'd enjoy it as much as I did Super Mario Galaxy 2, that game was as perfect as games can get.

Part of me wants to give Sonic Generations a fair chance, but let's be honest - in no world is Sonic Generations a better game than Galaxy 2. It being better than most recent Sonic games means little given how fall that series has fallen in quality over the years.

Mario Galaxy 1

but I agree with the guy above, Generations doesn't come to close to either galaxy game.

It's not even close. I've played Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 and both are far better than Sonic Generations. Why? Because you get to move upside down and there are so many other dimensions that are incorporated into Super Mario Galaxy that Sonic Generations can't match. I'm shocked that you would ask such a question.

Both are good but I wasn't stunned by either one. Both are in the "8" category score wise for me.

But both would be 10/10 if they had guns, right?

If you like Sonic, get SG, if you like Super Mario, get SMG2

If you like awesome videogames, get both.

Agreed.

The Sonic games can be decent platformers on their own, but in no way could they capture the magic that Mario was and still is. And besides, a lot of reviews have nothing but good things to say about Mario Galaxy 2 and yes, a lot of people also liked Sonic Generations as well, but I think that MG1 and 2 are better games overall.

Yeah. Sonic Generations simply doesn't have the same amount of compelling content outside of the main game (most of the optional stuff in Sonic isn't that polished). The 2D sections also felt a little rough (not surprising given it is the first time those used those physics/gameplay mechanics). 3D sections were still good though as they'd polished that over Unleashed and Colours. In contrast most of Mario feels tight and polished.
