Superb Audio or Video while gaming? Basically if you could only choose one (like quality HDTV with built in speakers, or average video with awesome HD audio), which do you prefer over the other? I'm more of a visual person so I would choose Superb video over audio.

If I really had to choose it would be video over audio. I find that good graphics add more to the experience than good sound.

I think audio more important to immerse yourself in games than graphics and higher resolution. My friend has a huge Samsung HDTV, but with just standard tv speakers and we play a lot there on gamenights but it isn't as great as my setup, which is a sdtv with 5.1 dd and dts.

I also have to go with better video. Sound is important but if a game is visually stunning it makes the game world more believable plus who doesnt love awesome graphics?

Agreed. It's hard to beat great sound while playing. It's what made some of my favorite games what they are, Super Metroid and Castlevani: SotN. Graphics are nice, but sound is more enveloping, capable of giving emotion, and is a lot more engrossing.

Also, sometimes I'm so immersed in the gameplay and visuals, I forget the sound and have to stop just to listen to it lol

Video, with kids I play many games with the subtitles on. Now I have a fantastic surround sound system, but rarely get to crank it up when I play, and when I do it makes the game a lot better. But I'd still rather have the great visuals, this generations visuals continues to amaze me.

Just based on the fact I paid more for my visual set-up than the audio set-up, I'd have to say video.

But still...I can play an old game or a low budget game and the relatively poor quality of visuals doesn't keep me from enjoying it in the least. On the other hand, shoddy voice work and goofy tunes and I'll shut the game off right there. I think maybe it's just that at this stage of visual quality, a good background tune and an excellent voice actor means more than an extra million polygons.

Good sound can be really immersing, such as Left 4 Dead 2 (certain music also tells you what special infected are near by). Team Fortress 2 helps as well, with good audio you can hear footsteps and even with average you can hear sentry guns around the corner (perfect for spy).

I guess it depends on the game. For a steath game, I would prefer audio over visual. But with a FPSor an adventure game, I think visual would matter more.

In Aliens Vs Predator, listening to the machine gun is intolerable, it sounds like firecrackers. I notice it every single time. I don't think i would notice a worse resolution on the Aliens's tail or second mouth, so on this instance i'd rather have had better audio, with compromised video.

In Dragon Ball Raging Blast, they have carried over some "whoosing" effects from the anime series, and it increases the fun threefold - for me at least -. Again i would not have minded compromised video in order to have these effects.

Well, I'm mostly deaf so I would have to go with Video over Audio. A nice audio system is nice, but I don't need it to enjoy a film or game.

Depends from the game actually. If the sound in the game is crap, getting hd audio wont change much, but there are games with great sound and average graphics.

To tell you my opinion and experiance, the game has pretty good sound apart from the pulse rilfe, thats right its a pulse rifle thats why it does not sound like a firearm, it does not fire bullets. Also its the shame sound from every alien vs predator game and every aliens movie that had that pulse rilfe. So there is a reason it sounds like that.

Audio goes a long way in immersing you into the world. With a good pair of headphones(around the $100+ range), an amp, and optical cable.... the sound is really just mind blowing. You begin to notice all the minute differences and can really differentiate yourself in whatever game you're playing.

Visuals go a long as well, but I wouldn't mind playing on a SDTV if I had to.

Video. You can't do it without video. If the audio is crap, I can easily stop it and launch Winamp :)

I wouldn't want to have to choose. I require both to be of high quality for me to enjoy the experience. If one is bad, then the whole experience suffers.

What if the bad one is instead passable / ok, to a point were it's playable; which one would you prefer to be of high quality if you could only choose one? :P

Audio is more important to me. I've never had a problem with bad video as long as it is passable, and still frequently play games that look terrible by today's standards. Bad audio doesn't bother me all that much either, but it does more so than bad video.

It depends on what sound system I'm using.
