prolly the actual sm2 (ie the "lost levels") it was a lot harder than smb1 and there was no real graphical improvement, but it was a challenge and fun. the US version of smb2 didn't really feel like smb and i found out later that was because it wasn't smb, it was doki doki panic.

As excellent as Lost Levels was, I like the "fake" 2 more. The game is actually pretty awesome if you get used to it's changes. the level design is awesome, the art is great, the bosses excellent, the game is definitely underrated.

I liked the fake one cause it was actually different... cause for todays standards the lost levels would've just been an add-on

The original. I hated Super Mario USA.

Both of them are pretty good, but the Japanese version is superior. Feels and plays more like Super Mario.

I 100% prefer SMB USA. Lost levels seemed more like Super Mario Bros. Master Quest then an actual sequel. Plus, I really like quirky sense of the USA version, and it's nice to have a different ending boss.

Doki doki panic version. The real one was just SMB1 if it was so difficult it was unfun. I downloaded the lost levels on the virtual console and I didn't get far. It was so frustrating that it felt like some sort of romhack.

I kind of like both, but i like the Japanese smb2 more. The fake smb2 offers quite interesting level design and focuses a lot on teqnice, while the Japanese smb2 offers some of the hardest, coolest level design ever in a Mario game. I think it's better than the first smb and about halfway as good as smb3, which is a lot. hehe.

The original's gameplay, but with a higher difficulty level.

It looks and plays like the orginal, but you could play as Luigi as player 1, and for the first time, he was different from Mario. There were warps that would take you back to the begining, and some that just take you back a few worlds. There was also poison mushrooms for the first time. It had a post game thing too, where the was worlds 1-8 and then A,B,C and D, I think. It had a ton of differences that most people over looked just because they are too busy crying over it being too harder than the first game.

I don't think Doki Doki Panic! is a good game, with or without Mario.

I liked the fake version better, since you can pick up enemys, fruits, and stuff.

Oh...warps that take you back to the beginning...! How handy! Come on---this is like the most frustrating thing there could possibly be on a videogame... "what were they thinking"?!? (AVGN style...) I had fun with both, but for me... Fake Mario 2 FTW!

I've played lots and lots of Mario on the NES. I like the US version because it's different, and still a good game, even if it's not REALLY Mario.

I like the lost levels more. The 'fake' one was good too... but only once. I couldn't stand playing it over again.

I wasn't crazy about either game, but I still prefer the fake version to the real version (lost levels).

As close as I was saying the real version, I have to go with the fake one. Sure, it may not be the real one, but first off let's start with the fact that it holds a lot more memories for me than the Japanese one does. But that aside, I just found it to be a lot more fun, mostly because it was so different. So I'm going with the USA version :)
