i have a thin white-ish streak/scratch/smudge of some sort across a gamecube disc i just picked up. the first time i played the game, it booted up fine, played for a little while and nothing went wrong. i booted the game up for the second time and the screen said "disc could not be read". I took the game out, put it back immediately, and it worked. I am basically just wondering if anyone else has a similar blemish on any of their discs and whether there is a remedy for this, is it not a good disc, or will it hold up? I picked up the game at a pawn shop and am not looking forward to having to take it back in to exchange for a different, inferior game. Let me know what you think i should do with this one. thank you in advance!

Which title is it? The availability of other copies is one of your most pertinent questions to answer. The next question I would have for you, is if it's damage done to the disc post-release (a scratch or other PHYSICAL scarring of the surface), or if it's a discoloration/ deterioration of the aluminum compound that's encased IN the plastic.

Physical damage can be repaired. I've seen some amazing resurfacing done on discs recently - I had a copy of "The Punisher" that had a DEEP circular scar all the way around it like someone had used a can opener on it, and my local resale shop put it in their handy-dandy $4000 disc repair machine, and now it's like new. The clerk told me they can do the same for any kind of disc, GameCube included.

Need their website?

thanks, i didnt think of taking the game back to the store to have them clean it for me. Then again if they didnt get it the first time i might just as well test my luck with it and buy one of those bottles of liquid disc repair which i have not tested before. It is about $4-$5 at game stores.
