I mean seriously, at amazon they are charging a Wii for $629.99, I mean the system has been out for a year, and online they have it for that much?! I know the prices are really highonline when systems come out, including the PS3 and 360, but how could the cheapest console cost more that a high end PS3? And after a year, they expect online consumers to by that for $630! That is really insulting to the consumer, since shouldn't the will be the cheapest console around, i'm sure stores out there sell it for the intended price, but are people that lazy and stupid not to get out of the house and look for one? Don't try to act like Hoolingans Wii fans, I want to get the Wii, especially with many of the great games on it (especially Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl) but this is rather pathetic and Hypocritical in a advertising of the Wii if this keeps up.

It's that price because they are maximizing profits at that price, or better known as, they are making more money selling the amount of Wiis at that high price vs selling more Wiis at a lower price, but a higher price would lessen the profits. This means that the demand is vastly outstripping the supply. So Wiis are selling at that price, and Amazon isn't a charity.

Lets clear one thing up.
Amazon is not selling the Wii for $629.99 that is a private party using Amazon marketplace. That is the equivalent to selling it on E-bay with a minimum bid or Buy Now price. Right now I see them going for about 550 but that changes quickly. MARKET PLACE LINK I see people looking for a sucker with them priced at $649 and $729 at the bottom. If you look at the main product page you see it is not available from Amazon directly. AMAZON WII MAIN PAGE LINK

You are correct in that you can't purchase one online for the MSR of $249.99 at least not that I could find. Your only going to find that price at a retail store and good luck finding a system alone. It's possible but most stores are only selling a system as a bundle. My blog from the beginning of the month is on the subject of Wii availability and how dealers are scamming you with these bundles. Check it out.

Its supply and demand, it happens every Christmas. It may be a year old but face it, the Wii is still a hot item this year and they are only going to get harder to find the closer we get to Christmas.

Blame Nintendo, not the people taking advantage of the companies complete inabaility to meet demand for the system. Nintendo has known for over a full year now that the demand was much higher than the intital supply, and has had all year long to rectify that situation, and has consistently failed to do so.

1.8 million a month not good enough? That's 1/3 of all worldwide PS3 sales a year to date.

I don't think it's amazon that is charging that much. I think amazon just links you to ebay or something similar. Those prices are just from certain individuals looking to make a quick buck. I refuse to buy from any of them. I'm not going to spend 3 times more on something I can just get at the store if I have patience.

How are they pathetic? If people are willing to pay that amount to get their hands on the extremely hot item then they do it. If they weren't selling them for that much they wouldn't be advertising them for that much. It is a little extreme but when you release the thing that is the next best thing to sliced bread for an untapped market of untold millions, you cannot easily supply them all for a long time.

It's called price gouging, and it isn't Amazon that is doing it.

Yeah, those prices are not official amazon prices. And yes, it goes without saying that people are going to try and take advantage of desperate parents during the holiday season. Same thing as Furby, really, only this time people will also try the Internet.
