[QUOTE="AtomicTangerine"][QUOTE="xmitchconnorx"] [QUOTE="AtomicTangerine"]Reviews save me time and money. Without them, I would have to play every game that comes out to see if it sucked or not. If somebody never read reviews what would have stopped them from getting the original Metal Gear Solid over any other Playstation game?xmitchconnorx
You can't go by reviews though. So many times i've played a game, loved it, and saw later that it got bad reviews. How are you to find underrated gems by following reviews?
Name one please. I have yet to play a game I enjoyed that was panned across the board, and I have always at least had a good time when I bought a game that scored very well. Sure, I have played games where I enjoyed it more or less than the median score would have led me to believe, but I have yet to play a game where the reviews got it totally wrong.
The point I am trying to make is that if one ignores reviews completely, what would stop me from buying Bomberman: Act Zero over Gears of War? What would stop me from buying Lair over MGS4? What would stop me from buying Army of Two over Call of Duty 4? You aren't wrong for liking games that critics didn't, but you are wrong if you say there is no value in reviews from a consumer standpoint.
Legend of Dragoon: 6.4
Contact: 6.7
Hexen: 3.3
These are few games that i loved that got lackluster reviews. I'm not telling you to like these games, they're just games i liked that got low scores. It shows that people have different opinions. And how can you trust what you get to someone elses opinion?
And what would stop you from getting Lair over MGS4? Good judgement and a little research. If you looked at previews and thought Bomberman would be better tham Gears then you might have a problem. It's not hard to look into games prior to release, find out who's making them, what's in it, amd other such things. Then you can find out if you'll like a game or not. And if they game ends up being bad, oh well, it happens, people are dying in third world countries, worse things are going on in the world.
And if you want to get an opinion on a game atleast ask a friend who's played it, someone you know and trust. Why trust a total stranger who writes a review on gamespot or ign?
I trust the professional reviews much more than I trust other gamers. I find they are usually much more objective than some 15 year old in Phoenix, who hated GTA IV because there were no gangstas or planes. Of course, going by just 1 review is crazy. That's where Metacritic and GameRankings come into play....
Out of the games you listed, I've only experienced Hexen, and it was the worst PS1 game I ever played. I don't understand how anyone can like it. I think GS was overly generous with 3.3. I would give it 2 at most.
