Note the extra "I" at the end. I'm not talking about FFVII, I'm discussing the game that appeared afterward that for some reason people don't enjoy as much. I absolutely love this game and find it to be deeper and more involving than FFVII, and I'm curious if anyone else loves the game like I do. I think the story is fantastic, and I love how you can play as two characters to progress the story and see the same topics from different perspectives at different times. Plus, I think the character development of Squall and the other characters is superb and possibly the greatest I have seen in any video game to date. So does anyone agree with me? Anyone else out there love FFVIII and (puts on a flame shield) thinks it's even better than FFVII?

Considering the age of a lot of folks around here I'm sure there are plenty of people who prefer VIII over VII especially considering the generic backlash directed toward VII due the rabid following that game has. Personally I really disliked VIII and it's my second least favorite game but if you prefer it over VII I don't really have a problem with that.

It's definitely not one of my favorites out of all of them, but I will agree that it had a good story and a pretty good cast of characters (Laguna's story portions were great). But hey, if it's your favorite Final Fantasy, then more power to you, not everyone is going to have the same opinion on certain popular games a la Final Fantasy VII.

I didin't/don't like the Draw system. I liked materia and other "systems" much more.

The story and graphics are great though! I also like the GF system a bit.

the drawing system really sucks. aside from that it was a great final fantasy title. i like the love story theme of the game. i think its the strong point of the game. i love the ending too. the last part whre squall finally smiled. that was nice. plus it has a nice song. eyes on me. also one unforgettable scene is the dancing part. that was really cool~

the story and graphics i really thought was good, as was the music. next up are what i loathed about the game

- i have to scour the planet to find parts to make a new weapon thats only slightly stronger than what i have now? seriously? nobody on the entire planet just has a couple of extra swords their willing to part with for some cash? which brings me to...

- set income? no cash from monsters? well i guess thats ok since i can't buy weapons, but wait i need about 20 potions to make sure i can stay alive when i go get ifrit and i only got enough pay for 10 of them.... so do i go ahead and go or sit around wait and hope i get enough next payday....

- the drawing system.... i don't have 6 hours to restock my entire spell supply for my characters when they run out.

- no armor? i mean, i see these guards wearing quasi full plate and yet im running around in a t-shirt and can't buy more armor? oh wait, thats right my defense goes up with my levels.... well so does the enemies attack power and defense.... soooo basically leveling up is useless (it can actually make the game alot more difficult, why should becoming more powerful make things more difficult?)

i think the drawing and junctioning system would've been good if it didn't take as long as it did.

Those are pretty much my complaints as well. Also, I couldn't stand how you needed to equip a GF JUST to add the Item command during battle.

Great story, characters, music, and environment. Poor battle system. This game could have easily been my favorite in the series if you didn't have to draw all your magic, restock it periodically, equip it through your GF, etc. The GF leveling aspect was cool, but you shouldn't have to choose whether to be able to use items or magic in battle.

FFVIII is the only JRPG that I didn't bother to finish. While the graphics (for its time), music and overall presentation were excellent, the rest was okay to terrible. The stroy was good but the characters outside of Laguna, Rinoa, Quistisand Squall (although he was annoynig at times) I did not care for as they were either annoying or forgettable. The villains were weak compared to FFVI, VII and IX. Then there was the junctioning system which I thought that it made the game too easy or too hard. Drawing magic was too much of a chore. The lack of armor and buying weapons made it extremely annoying especially by the time I hit the 4th disk I had the same weapons at the begining of the game. I ended up using my GF's more times then I could count and could not skip them making battles longer then they should be. Also, not gaining money after battles was also annoying and was stupid to take a test which I ended up cheating to earn more gil.

I am all up for trying something new but to me it did not work. Overall,I did not like this game and think its overrated in GS IMO.However I do know that it is a love it or hate it type game so I'm not going to flame anyone that likes it.Plus, the soundtrack and FMV's were awesome and it did use the analog controls unlike VII whichcame out before the analog controllers were released. BTW, my favorite is FFIX.

Actually I thought the last good one was six. I played seven but did not think it was the masterpiece some did. I also yearned for a more pen and paper type experience that was eventually satisfied with the elder scrolls. Plus seven really was simplistic storywise if you already had an understanding of the Tree of life/kabbalaism. have not played one since, I did try the FFXI beta on 360 but that just showed me I did not care for MMO's,nothing to do with the setting.

Well I personally love it. And that card game that was in the game was addictive.

I have respect for the game, and I do love it, but I just could never ever finish the game....every timeI started with the best of intentions I'd get distracted and fall off the wagon. :( Good game though, and brought a lot to the table rpg wise.

I still have the game from when I owned the first Playstation, and I occasionally run it on my PS2.

My first impression was how great the cinematics were: amazing that a game was made that showed what the PS could accomplish. A lot of people thought it was great to have a 4-disc game as well.

I even have the PC version of FF VIII.

I have to agree. I liked FFVII but thought the materia system was heavily unbalanced and the summons were long and useless after a certain point. I never played FFVIII and it would be the last FF I would ever want to try.

FF8 is an awesome game.

its not my favourite but its still awesome

the story was amazing and so was the music.

graphically its great (ive had people asking me "how did you run a PS2 game on your PS1", im serious)

the draw system was a bit confusing but not too bad.

I dont have any complains about the game play or anything.. I was really impressed at the time by the videos during the game (cant remember the name xD ) The characters were all very good and the GF were pretty cool as well. No complains.. just whished they could remake the game but with voices this time *-* It would be so awesome :P

:P It's my favorite Final Fantasy game and have a tattoo of the "garden" symbol to prove it. Everything seemed perfect to me (music, story, junction system, etc.).

This. A great idea, reissue with voiceovers. I'd buy it if it was PC.
