Call me an UT purist but I really don't like how they changed the single player around. I liked the UT series for its awesome, fast-paced gameplay, cool maps and great weapons set, not for the story mode. I enjoyed being able to know that I was a space-age gladiator who was fighting in a tournament and that I didn't need to think about it, I just needed to blow people to bits with a well-placed flak cannon round. I wouldn't have been so opposed to a change in the story if it weren't for the fact that the story that Epic added in was just stupid and shallow. It didn't have much more depth than the actual story of the first games and the voice acting was poorly done to the point of being annoying. And who the hell are these people on this planet that I have never heard of before? Why should I care? The story is just barely connected to the UT storyline anyhow. I still loved UT3 and felt that it did bring more of that awesome UT gameplay but the story just ruined one of the best parts of any UT game.
I agree that UT having a single player mode is dumb. Not many people know or care about its setting enough to be engaged in a single player game, we buy it for the multiplayer. It annoys me because it looks exactly like Gears Of War, like its trying to ride the coattails of their other succesfull franchise. The characters even look the same for **** sakes.
UT3 is only the second time i've been bothered completing the single player mode. I think they should just remove the sinlge player element and create more content for instant action/mulitplayer.

I like the single player because it has some of the best bot-based deathmatching around for when you don't want to play online, it's the fact that they tried to turn it into something it isn't that bothers me.
