Not necessarily the HARDEST(if available), just HARD. I do. Cuz Ive been gaming for 25 years now. I feel like its noobish to play on normal. Though I admit, there are times, it gives me nerdrages.

Never ever ever haha. I actually turn it to easy as i like to just breeze through the game with minimal difficulty. Some people might find this boring but i find it entertaining, as i HATE being stuck at one point. I just get angry and frustrated.
It depends on weather or not I'm familiar with a game, if it's the first time I'm playing a game in a series then I start on normal... But If I hear that a certain game is easy then I'll probably start on hard.
I do that most of the time. Most recent example is Wolfenstein, which I installed yesterday, I'm playing it on Uber, but it's not really tough.
I always play on Veteran on Call of Duty, I've beaten all games. I only had trouble on Contingency in MW2 and Vorkuta in Black Ops.
Very rarely and it would have to be a sequel, a lot of games I play don't even give you the option to play on hard until you have at leats beaten normal. I played SH3 on hard the first time through with hard puzzles, took me an age to get through some of the puzzles.
Last gen I always played games on easy or normal. This gen it seems like games are easier so I crank it up to the hardest difficulty. Surprisingly, I still beat these games in a shorter amount of time than the games from the previous gen.fighter91This. This gen I was completing games too easily, it wasn't fun anymore. So hard(est) it is.
I play on hard most of the time. A lot of games these days are too easy. It used to be you played a game to get through a level without dying. Now we have regenerating health and cloaking and all sorts of other stuff to "keep us in the action".
I dont play on hard at first. I am all about story and characters. So, playing on Normal dificulty allows me to get into the story and the character progression. Playing on hard tends to be annoying, especially if the game is super hard. It distracts me from the actual gameplay and story.
Like him with a little difference: I play FPS' on the hardest available difficulty. Because they are not interesting enough to play through more than once. Also, if a game comes at me saying I should play on hard (like inFamous did) then I do so. I believe the devs know what they're doing when they implement a skill-check. And the Sucker Punchers were completely right. It depends on weather or not I'm familiar with a game, if it's the first time I'm playing a game in a series then I start on normal... But If I hear that a certain game is easy then I'll probably start on hard.

I always play on the hardest difficulty that is available at the start to minimize replays for difficulty related trophies and achievements. If there are no such rewards/incentives i usually just choose normal and only increase it if the game is boring.
Yeah it's such a nuisance playing a games like Uncharted 3 times just to get difficulty trophies if your first play-through was on normal mode. Then you have to play Hard mode to unlock Crushing and then you have to play crushing. One perk I guess is by the time you get to Crushing difficulty is that you can beat the game in 4 hours.Depends on the trophies
If I can beat the game on any difficulty and still get the platinum I'll play on easy-normal. If the game requires higher difficulties I'll start on the highest I can.
Atmanix
Noes.
Sometimes they get hard difficulty wrong. I don't mind hard as in I can't absorb as much damage, adds a bit of realism I suppose, I don't feel like I can just run up and tank everything, but I don't like hard if it means the enemies take lots n lots more damage if you know what I'm getting at.
It really just depends on the game.
Some game are extremely frustrating on their hard difficulty and does not make a good first playthrough. Others do it right and it makes it a fun, challenging experience.

They do usually, but the higher difficulties aren't always available until you beat the game on a lower difficulty.
Star Ocean 4 for instance, I think you have to beat it 3 times to even have the option of playing on the hardest difficulty.
It depends on the game.
If it's a sequel or a part of a series I've been very much involved with, I will start on Hard.

They do stack, but to unlock Crushing difficulty in Uncharted you need to beat the game on Hard mode. When I played Uncharted and Uncharted 2, I went through on normal, so I had to go through the game on hard to unlock crushing and then I finally had to go through the game on crushing. After that I just decided to play all my games on the hardest difficulty level available.
