If you're not into reading and would like to see this in video form, you can check this out right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gqw4qbWwJU

(It should be noted that there are small differences *cough* Runner-Up's *cough*. But you can hopefully enjoy both.)

Otherwise, let's write this down!

So if you have been high or preparing for the ass whooping that will be Dark Souls II, you might not have heard about the recent passing about Irrational Games. Ken Levine is apparently done with Irrational Games and leaving. Now most of these guys will be picked up by other companies, so don't worry too much. But I'm not here to talk about Irrational.

I'm here to talk about who should start making the new Bioshock games. Personally I would've ended the series of Infinite. It's a great final game to a franchise if you had to end Bioshock, but this industry has no artistic integrity so that's not going to happen anytime soon. Instead, I think that if anyone should take the series it should somebody outside of 2k games.

If you look at the potential list of studios to grab the franchise, it would be between 2k Marin, 2k Czech, Fireaxis, and Visual Concepts. 2k Marin is the obvious choice since they are made of former employees of Irrational, but my problem with them is that they aren't very good storytellers. 2k Marin's BioShock 2 story sounds awful and The Bureau: Xcom Declassified was even worse.

2k Czech is probably the best choice, but they are extremely obscure and as far as I know they're only huge rally big success was Mafia. Which is fine because Mafia and Mafia II are known for great storytelling, world design, and fun gameplay, but I still don't know if they could one-up any of Irrational Games.

Sid Meier would probably tell 2k to go **** a dick if they told him to make an action RPG, so we can count Fireaxis out. And giving Visual Concepts (The guys responsible fore the NBA 2k games) Bioshock would be like giving Creative Assembly the Alien Franchise... Oh wait a second....

Take Two Interactive also owns Rockstar games. That would be a great choice for the Bioshock games, if you can get past the fact that it would be a third person action game, because that's all that Rockstar does. The only time that Rockstar has not done a third person action game is with the Midnight Run franchise. I still think that will be a rare exception for a while.

So the last and final pick that we could go with is an external developer. My personal pick would actually be The Chinese Room. They're independent, they're innovative, they're great at storytelling and world building, and if you force them to be innovative in the gameplay department, they are more than capable enough of doing fun and interesting things with the gameplay.

Runner ups were:

Bioware

Eidos Montreal

Arkane Studios

And because **** it, they're making everything nowadays

TellTale Games

Anyways, I would love to hear your guys opinions, share yours and tell me who should make the new Bioshock Games.

I wish they would outsource the job to Beenox. Not because I think Beenox would make a good Bioshock game, but if Beenox were busy then maybe we could get a decent Spider-man game.

HEY-OH! :P

I don't think there should be one at all.

They might as well let the series die. 4 million is a good number provided one doesn't throw away two games worth of content during the six years your game spends in development, but 1) its the sort of number a lucky quality original game can hit or exceed and 2) its not a formula that lends itself to repetition.

Touching upon multiple complicated, conflicting philosophies but not picking sides, using a mix of magic and guns to fight deranged (and thus low AI) enemies (many of them partially or fully robotic) was awesome in the original Bioshock, but felt a little too familiar/formulaic in Infinite.

Id like to see 2k MARIN jump right back into it, I really enjoyed Bioshock 2/The Bureau. And for those of you who ask "why do we need another"? the answer is simple. Bioshock is one of the few mainstream video games on the market that offers a triple AAA narrative driven experience with its own unique first person shooting gameplay. And the universe(s) is also pretty wicked.

Personally I would like the team who made Bioshock 2. The game felt like a Bioshock game (even if it did feel a bit forced with the story at times such as the Lamb character and her importance yet she is not mentioned in the first game from recollection). However, I would want to see them do something new with it (although they kind of covered both areas where people have not built up, in the air and under the sea, space being the only other option and that may require a futuristic setting or a twist on the moon landings or something).

Great question,

Er I'd have to go with 4A Games! Metro : Last Night has an incredibly immersive world and the story was surprisingly great :D Shooting mechanics feel a bit too 'weighty' for Bioshock with fluid plasmids but with some tweaks I think they have potential.

@IncisionX: DAMN IT! I forgot about them. They should have also been apart of the runner-ups.

Obsidian.

They seem to be the only devs making true RPG's anymore instead of action games with pseudo-RPG elements.

@ Boddicker

Or they can drop the RPG Elements entirely and just make it all action.

@Lulu_Lulu:

1)

That is a horrible idea. Crytek and Epic are not storytellers nor could they improve on the gameplay in any way in the series.

2)

What's wrong with the gameplay? It's a dumbed down version of System Shock 2, which I'm sorry, needed to be dumbed down for idiots like me.

@ CrispyTigers

I've had enough story. As for the gameplay, you confuse dumb down with streamlined, yes there is a difference. Especially when preferred control methods have changed from Mouse and Keyboard to something much more ergonomical.

I believe that studio was recently shut down or downsized to a very small digitally focused studio. Probably due to the poor reception of The Bureau, I'd assume. Sucks... I really enjoyed Bioshock 2.

I kinda don't want another Bioshock. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the first two and the third was okay but any dev that get on the series would likely just try and replicate those games instead of making their own unique worlds, gameplay elements and narrative
