Wan Hazmer (Lead Game Desiger On Final Fantasy XV) & Hajima Tabata (Director Of 'Final Fantasy XV' & Type-0) come across as some of the nicest people working in Japanese game development today. Their transparency with their projects is refreshing.
I was a huge Tetsuya Nomura fanboy as a teenager and loved and was inspired by his character designs. I and many were quite excited when we heard he would get to direct his first final fantasy game in 2006. Fast forward 8 years & I've lost some respect for him, not as a developer or artist but as someone who cares to communicate with fans. In my eyes in the last few years he's comes across as a bit aloof, arrogant, indifferent, and fairly anti-social in interviews. Before SE even decided that Versus XIII was going to become XV, he was hardly very forthcoming about a project which was already 6 years in development.
When I heard he was moved to the kingdom heart 3 team permanently, and off the XV project I sort of breathed a sigh of relief, although not everyone shared my reaction. By this time I was already aware of who Hajima Tabata was, having played the awesome crisis core: final fantasy VII on the playstation portable. In fact I remember around the time 'Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns' came out that SquareEnix sent members a feedback form and I made it a point to express in a comments section that i'd like to see Hajima Tabata do a console final fantasy. When they announced Tabata as co-director in 2013, It was like a dream come true for many i'd imagine, not least because it gave fans hope that the game would actually get finished now.
Since then not only have we had a steady stream of info and updates, but they (Hazmer and Tabata) talk about themselves, they're more social, they're friendly, always smiling, active with the community & even willing to take constructive feedback. They clearly care about the audience. This is something some SquareEnix was missing since after Hironobu sakaguchi left the studio, a heart.
In my eyes Hajima Tabata really is the man who saved final fantasy xv
