It seems like every other game that gets released these days is some form of squad-based shooter. Sometimes 1st person and other times 3rd person, but they are always squad based shooters. And everybody eats them up like cookies, too.

Personally, I don't get it. I've never been interested in squad based shooters and I don't think I ever will be. I hope the fad ends soon because we need some other game genres to choose from and shooters are dominating the game market right now.

To me, squad based stuff takes you out of that "one man army" type of role. You're now just a person that needs to rely on others because you yourself can't do everything in the world. Guess it just makes people feel that they're not alone in the game world.

Gotta agree with ya on that... with one exception, I generally find them boring as well. I've played a few and watched my buddies play yet others but found the experience to be dull. And I've had enough of hearing the words "alpha bravo delta echo etc" repeated every 3 seconds, it's enough that I have to hear that at my job each day.

Shooters have always been popular in the gaming world due to the fact that they give the player a form of escapism and a rush i suppose from firing a weapon, something that many people will never get to do in the real world.

The idea of the squad based shooter allows focus on team cooperation to achieve objectives rather than one man army hero stuff which is unrealistic. Which brings me onto the realism aspect of the majority of most squad based shooters which makes the player choose tactical decisions rather than the run n gun option which is the norm in most shooters, i'm not saying all squad based shooters are realistic because they are not i'm just generalising. As a fan of squad-based shooters I believe the appeal lies in the realistic escapism of people fighting alongside teammates/friends as well as a whole open door to multiplayer gameplay which gives developers a whole choice of gameplay options and gametypes to choose from.

Especially with the current economical climate and developers not taking many risks i wouldn't be surprised if we see more squad based shooters being released in the next year or two as developers know that they are very popular.

As a guy into F.P.S titles, I personally prefer just to look after myself whilst gaming.. Don't tell anyone, but I kill allies whilst playing HALO 3 just to get their weapons. The fools just get in my way.. But I'm quite a selfish individual anyway ! As far as I'm concerned, it's every man for themself. Kill em all !! Coincidentally, my last achievment earned yesterday was 'Does'nt Play Well With Others' F.3.

Perhaps companies are attempting to reproduce the success of Counter Strike?:roll:that was a very addictive game. Never played it because I saw how my friends kept skipping class for that. Brrrr, I can imagine my parents knowing I skipped classes for that:shock:

Just because you don't like squad base shooters doesn't mean its wrong to make them, personally I don't really know what your talking about...sure there are alot of shooters on the market but very few of them are squad base, name some for me outside of Rainbow Six and Graw 2?

I'm not saying they shouldn't make them. I'm just saying it seems like they make more squad based shooters than any other type of game genre.

I dig them because they are a different kind of shooter. I like, as an example, SWAT 4 and the Rainbow Six series (which, I feel, has only gotten better with each new release; even if I did get really frustrated with the last level in Vegas 2 until i figured it out). I just find them really fun...

Because not everyone can be the guy that bosses everyone else around, so its a nice escaped to lead a team of trained killers by your side and tell them what to do....or in my case, shout at the TV because they did something incredibly stupid :P

Actually I haven't seen a squad base shooter released in a while. I'm trying to think of the last one. I wanna say it was Rainbow Six Vegas 2.
