Haven't you seen them? They all have all these metallic objects flying everywhere, "macho" music in the background...and all these special effects for the games they advertise. Does it seems like they're taking it too far, like they want their machine to look "cool"? I can picture some little elementary school kids going "Dudes, I'm so cool because I got that machine in the commercials". Seriously, they need to tone them down, and they always totally exaggerate what the machine is capable of. camreeno360
They look cool if you look at it from the graphic designer side. It must have take a long time to get all those special effects in. The way the PS3 is advertised is not cool because it shows what can be played, but not how the games run on the console.
the commercials rock... and if you dont like them, than change the channel for all we care... penguino726
Agreed. I call Sony out for the continual mistakes they've made and fairly acknowledge their market situation, but I'll also give them credit for a really cool commercial. I can't explain why its so cool (well, whatever song that is, it really helps) but the marketing guys did their job.
I liked the ones from last holiday too, though. Well, except that baby one ..........
Eh, I thought it was cool. The first time I saw it I actually had the urge to go buy a PS3. I guess that's the magic of advertising. Plus the song is awesome.
The special effects are awesome, but the music just sounds like some garden variety numetal garbage. I think it might actually be Limp Bizkit themselves, or some generic wannabe, and why anyone would "wannabe" Fred Durst, including the man himself, is beyond me.
That aside, I think western advertisement stopped being about promoting actual features of any given product long ago. In fact, most of the commercials that actually stick with me are ones that I found to be funny/cool/cute/heartwarming/manipulative, but that could not actually remember what it was they were advertising! Not what I would call effective.
Honestly, I can't even remember the last time I bought anything because of a TV/magazine/banner ad. I tend to decide on or stumble across what I want through active and extensive research, and videogames and their hardware are no exception. Given how costly they tend to be nowadays, I can't really afford to do it any other way.
I think the commercials are pretty good. The metallic object one you mention is only one out of many. The commercials for individual games are quite good.
I like it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than those cheeseball Wii commercials with that have grandpas, kids, moms, dads, groups, etc. playing the Wii with those Japanese salesmen guys at the ene with the Wii-mote saying, "Wii like to play." I can't believe they even stick Metroid Prime 3 in a commercial like that, ugh!
My question is why they always show Wii Sports, geez the game came out like a year ago and it's like a demo disc.I think the commercials are pretty good. The metallic object one you mention is only one out of many. The commercials for individual games are quite good.

:lol:I have to agree though.
Their latest commericals are cool, they have intense rock music that panders to the 12 to 40 year old male demographic which stresses gaming. What's wrong with that?
Before they had crying dolls, eggs that explode into full grown ravens and other weird stuff that didn't actually make any sense. Or how about the White and Black PSP ads that were deemed racist.
Sony is doing things properly as of late, I think it's just your personal opinion.
Might I ask what you think about Enzyte commercials or Burger King or something else in that case?
Well It's not nearly as weird as the early PS3/'dustball' psp commercials...now THOSE were freaky.greenghost123
God, I hated those dustball commercials!
But on topic, I think that PS3 has the best commercials of any system right now. The worst? Still PSP. That annoying guy in the "dude get your own" ads is the only thing worse than those talking dustballs.
I really like the ads that Sony are bringing out now. I love the new PS3 one with the rockin' music and morphing PS3 as it's a real adrenaline pumper. I really didn't like the first PS3 ads though with the baby doll, egg, and PS3 hovering in a white room. They were just kind of wierd and boring for me.
Same kind of deal with the new PSP ads doing the whole "Get your own" kind of thing. I find them to be kind of funny where the ones with the dustballs and squirrels were annoying to me.
