I actually prefer Oblivion, it just has a charm that Skyrim doesn't. Plus I enjoyed the quests far more in Oblivion.

Also, springtime in Cyrodiil > the eternal winter of SkyrimJust another point in Oblivions favour. Great game, probably put more time into it than any other single player game this gen.
Ah don't worry if you don't find trolls there. You'll be finding more than enough here as a compensation.

What's wrong with Oblivion? Several things.
1) The level scaling kills the game at later levels, it becomes too difficult and it never makes you feel like you are really getting stronger. Everyone else just levels up with you.
2) The dungeons are all the same, little variety. Skyrim did dungeons better, there are less of them, but they offer more, and in Skyrim the dungeons are hidden away from towns and villages and main roads. In Oblivion they are everywhere, it makes no sense for a bandit fort to be right on the main road of the Imperial City.
3) Some skills are useless. Mysticism has no point, neither does athletics or many other skills. This also goes for character abilities, Ancestral Ghost (I'm always a Dark Elf) is so stupid in Oblivion, other races are not much better either.
I love Oblivion, it is probably my most played game this gen. I gave the game a 10 in my review. However that was back when I got the game, today compared to Skyrim it's not as good.

One could argue there's no point in entering dungeons in Skyrim either. If it weren't for Dragon Priest masks I would never have bothered with them. Level scaling is silly, I agree (minotaurs scouring next to farmsteads), but it's entirely up to you whether to use it or not: you can avoid leveling up. Some skills needed to go and they did, but I believe too many of them were cut in Skyrim. Spells and weapons too: why is there only one invisibility spell in the game? Why does only one mage sell it? Where have lockpicking spells gone? I don't know, I think they streamlined it a bit too much.Because they're all on the off topic forum. =PAllicrombie

[QUOTE="Kevlar101"][QUOTE="Justforvisit"]I admit, the only amazing thing about Oblivion is the huge world. And the Oblivion gates suck ass. yep shoulda went with Morrowind or Skyrim. My PC cannot support games so no Morrowind and I am planning on getting either Skyrim or Dishonored in December.
Because Morrowind, though being the oldest of them, and when we leave graphics out is STILL miles ahead of the league of the other two. Though Skyrim is good again, Morrowind is an unrivaled masterpiece while Oblivion was just mediocre from an TES perspective. And many people didn't forgive Oblivion it's very bland main story line with very boring and repetetive elements as well as literally KILLING OFF the fun spells like Levitation or Solid Water.Allicrombie

The huge, expansive, boring ass world. Filled with uninteresting quests, boring NPCs with creepy faces, and uninspired art style filled with creatures lifted from other fantasy sources instead of trying to be unique.

BY all means, get started. It's not like you have anything better to do.First and foremost, the world is incredibly boring, repetitive and just not well done at all. Skyrims is way better, but those are the only two TES games.
If that is not enough, just add all the bugs, not so great graphics and so on? Still not enough? How about the awful leveling system where you bunny hop around town? No. Well I don't feel like saying more, so that is ok :P.
oblivion is solid, nothing amazing.

lol Skyrim has much better character creation. Oblivion had its fun aspects, but is outclassed by Skyrim in almost, if not every way. Not to say Skyrim is perfect, but it is a hell of a lot better than Oblivion.

I don't think you played Oblivion back in 2006 when it was released: the graphics were astonishing at the time for an RPG of that size. Yes, the bunny hopping athletic skill boosting is stupid, but I personally didn't do it: you can't blame the game for its players being skill-boosting cretins. You could similarly argue about Skyrim, which encourages you to stand around in burning fire to boost your Restoration skill. Bugs... are we really going to bring those in the contest? Oblivion has a f*ckload of them, but it is playable, Skyrim comes with several game-breaking bugs, plus the PS3 version is downright unplayable out of the box, while the XBOX version has PS2 graphics until you download the patch (no internet? Well, tough luck mate). I love Skyrim to death, but they slacked off in comparison with Oblivion. Please Log In to post.
