Completely Wrong. Rare just made a lot of the games like DK Country, DK64. Not sure why they have not made a new plaformer, I hope there is some news at the upcoming E3.donkey kong is owned by rare which was bought by microsoft thats why you see n64 ports on a 360

Nintendo isn't big on pleasing fans these days are they? DK64 was one of the funnest games, one those games with great single player and they just added fantastic multi-player to it that made it even better. Terrible shame Nintendo hates fans now.-shmelo-amen. Good to know I am not alone in thinking this way.
um nintendo pleased the fans but the fans walked out the door any way , ,
lol , so guess what , you think you can sit back not buy a n64 or gc then you come back 2 gen s later and expect nintendo to be the same, \
you got another tihng coming if you think nintendo would risk it again by pleasing your so called hardcore needs lol ,
instead of releasing new games you want them to release mario zelda mario zelda dk lol thats like ms and sony releasing fps fps fps fps racing fps fps fps that would pretty much ruin the wii name lol
Doesn't Miyamoto dislike the Donkey Kong game? Or at least compared to Mario? That's probably why you only see him in random games like Jungle Beat, and such, but not a full blown platformer.
It's a shame really since DKC is one of the best series of all time.
Though there is a Viva Pinata game on the DS, so I kinda wonder if Rare still could make a DK game for Nintendo, or at least on the handhelds

what are you talking about? The hardcore Nintendo fans, most of them, did own an N64 and Gamecube, and were disappointed with the lack of games on N64 and poor support on Gamecube, but charged on supporting the Wii. Then they became disappointed. And without Mario and Zelda Nintendo is nothing, sorry.Nintendo isn't big on pleasing fans these days are they? I agree 100%
Now that i think about it, I wish they would make a donkey kong game like the mario game they had for ds based on theDKC series plus they could add the other kongs from the n64 version:D
my guess is that they dont know how to make a good platform game with dk in it. every platform game hes been in rare made and once they ditched they were probably like what do we do now we never did this
so they just got lazy and mooched off their other franchises for platformers and made him go into dumb experiments they didnt wanna tarnish any other series' reputation with
It's not like Donkey Kong Country was terribly original to begin with: it was a blatant rip-off of Mario World. Nintendo probably wants to focus on keeping each of their core franchises unique.
Can't agree with you there buddy. Nobody here is complaining about the GC or N64, were just wanting some more games not exercise routines.um nintendo pleased the fans but the fans walked out the door any way , ,

thats a pretty ignorant statement...the only thing thats the same is that you jump on enemies heads and fight bosses but thats hardly enough to call it a "blatant" ripoff. theres games that are much worseIt's not like Donkey Kong Country was terribly original to begin with: it was a blatant rip-off of Mario World. i agree. i mean, c'mon... is it that nostalgia might be getting to you guys? i used to love DKC as a series, but there isn't much to differenciate it from the next platformer. all DKC had were some nice characters and pretty graphics & sounds, but the gameplay was kind of basic. then when banjo kazooie came out, it borrowed a lot from mario 64, and then when DK64 came out it was a bigger, prettier version of BK.

Funny enough, BK was made with a modified version of the Super Mario 64 engine. Essentially, they feel so similar because BK IS Mario 64.
Also, I have to believe a new DK platformer has been on hold for so long because of the heated situation between Miyamoto, Rare, and Nintendo themselves.
Nintendo hired Miyamoto.
Miyamoto made DK.
Nintendo leased DK to Rare for DKC/64.
Miyamoto is upset by Rare's results and Nintendo's reaction.
Rare leaves for MS.
DK is on the back burner because everyone has their feelings hurt...
Wikipedia has it all:
"The game's [Yoshi's Island] unique graphical style is said to have resulted from a conflict with Nintendo's internal evaluation committee; impressed by the recently released Donkey Kong Country, which sported pre-rendered graphics, they ordered the game's producer, Shigeru Miyamoto, to move the visuals in this direction. Miyamoto, who did not particularly like Donkey Kong Country, instead altered the "graphics" to look as if they had been drawn with crayons and felt-pens and more cartoon like and resubmitted it to the evaluation committee, who passed the game."
"Nintendo producer Shigeru Miyamoto criticised Donkey Kong Country, stating that "Donkey Kong Country proves that players will put up with mediocre gameplay as long as the art is good." Miyamoto later apologised, saying he had been harsh due to Nintendo pressuring him at the time to make Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island similar to Donkey Kong Country."

I agree as well, they were decent games but I never thought they were that outstanding and I bought the original when it launched. I always felt that the rest of the cast overshadowed DK in the Donkey Kong Country games, when all i wanted to do was play as DK. Im actually glad DK jungle beat gave DK a new world to explore on his own which was a good change of pace IMO.

no way. i never knew those things. BK running on the mario 64 engine? hm, zelda ran on the modified mario 64 engine, so i wonder if rare's dinosaur planet (later to become starfox adventures) was running on the zelda engine?
my confession is that i played way more banjo kazooie than i ever did mario 64. but i guess in the end it didn't make much difference.
I absolutly loved the original Donkey Kong Country for the SNES, one of the best games every in my opinion. Donkey Kong 2 for SNES was good, and Donkey Kong Land 1, 2 and 3 were also good for the Gameboy. But nothing could ever beat Donkey Kong for SNES in my opinion. I would love to see another new Donkey Kong made.
First, lol @ first reply.
Anyway, I don't know why, maybe they don't think they could innovate it, DK Swing for GBA and DS was decent, but more of a puzzle game. They were making a GC version, but then that got canned. It's a shame.

Actually, there are a lot more similarities in gameplay than just "you jump on enemies heads in both games and fight bosses." It's practically the same game, in fact, just with different art design, looser, play control, and fewer secrets.
And I'm not surprised that Banjo-Kazooie used Mario 64's engine: that's another game that is often accused (rightfully) of being a blatant rip-off.
This is Rare's style, people: they are not terribly good at innovation, so they just take existing games and alter them slightly.

they do make very pretty games though, and have talented graphics programmers/artists.
No argument there. Donkey Kong countryin particular seems to be a popular dumping ground lately, with critics decimating the then-cutting edge graphics and art style. I think DKC still look great, and there's no denything that games like Banjo Kazooie, Conker, and Goldeneye were some of the best-looking games on the '64.
Mymain problem with Rare is that they haven't made anything particularly original since the NES days (with the exception of Blast Corps, probably).
