Why do gamers allow for limit characteristic

Why do many gamers seem to only allow a very limited range of characteristic for the main character? It seem like if a character is not a piss off emo and/or a sarcastic then many games will call the character a bad character.

So you're saying gamers don't like protagonist that don't have generic qualities such as being "a big tough guy" and such? I'm usually decent at deciphering gibberish but I can't quite make sense of this one...SoNin360

I was thinking more in line with the one guy from the God of War games.

I know what he's talking about, he wants a normal person to play as in a game AND to be considered a great character. Am I right?

I would like to see more out of characters than being bitter, a wise cracker, or silent.

Raiden From Metal Gear Solid 2 comes to mind. He whine little if at all in the game, but many called him a whiner. He was a person that just finish training and on his mission he is unsure of himself.

I seen many comments that called Raiden a whiner.

I use kratos as what I call a piss off emo because he is just like a emo but just replace it with being piss off.

Ok. But in your first post you said gamers only like sarcastic pissed off emos. And you say Raiden is one. But if people are calling him a whiner it seems to me like they DON'T like Raiden. And to be totally honest, I don't see many people saying they like emo/whiner characters. Those types tend to rub people the wrong way.

I mean, do you see all the hate Hope and Cloud from Final Fantasy get?
