No, I dont mean you hate it. I mean why do you prefer other games over FF8? Alot of review say that they like the game, but at the same time it "sucks" because of the junction system, boring character and what-not. I personally love this game. better than FF7 imo. I like the junction system, it adds a bit more difficulty to the game, keeping it from being too easy. what do you people think?573927345The game doesn't suck because of the junction system. I just think a lot of people gave up after coming in contact with the junction system. I actually prefered it to any other system in FF games, it was easy to customize and was easy to use once you got used to it. Final Fantasy VIII is my favorite FF game actually because of the junction system and the story line.

I did not like the main character. Other than that the game was pretty good.K1LLR3175I liked Squall alright, although he isn't my favorite by any means.
I'm not sure why the game kinda carries this cult unpopularity nowadays. I think it was just as good as any other FF really. I would say that its major weakness was the supporting characters - they weren't really fleshed out enough. And also I guess some players didn't take to Squall like someone said above, personally I really liked him as a lead character but I can see where a lot of his motives and decisions seem very abrupt and confusing. What the player needs to realize when playing FF8, is the core story implied behind everything, and then I think it all comes together a little better and makes sense. SPOILER, LOOK AWAY IF YOU DON'T WANNA KNOW!!!...NOW!: So basically, while it seems like Squall and Rinoa are an awkward match, you learn throughout the game that they developed this bond because of fate - because Squall's father, Laguna, was unable to be with Rinoa's mother, the singer woman that died in the car accident, it was as if their connection was passed on to Squall and Rinoa. So, if Squall's sudden interest in Rinoa strikes you strangely, this is why.
/End Spoiler. But anyways even though I think I am pretty similar to Squall in a way, I can see where a lot of people had trouble connecting with his personality. Just try to imagine Squall as being a real person, and trying to talk to him and be his friend - he would constantly shove away even the most determined and friendly people, and for some reason still have respect for Seifer who acts out disrespectfully on a daily basis. In this way, I connected more with Zell, because he was looking at things from the perspective of justice/injustice, whereas Squall just doesn't really care about that, and looks at everything like a mission and he has a job to do.
I love FF8, although im at the third cd and still havent upgraded my weapons...how do we do it?
You didn't know? Go to Balamb Town and walk to the second screen. In the building on the left, the man inside will upgrade your weapons with rare parts you obtain from fighting monsters. You keep the same weapons throughout the entire game, and there aren't any armor/accessories in this FF, as much of that is linked to your GFs, and how you have all of the junction stuff set up. In order to completely upgrade your weapons, though, you have to make sure you obtain every weapons monthly magazine issue in the game. (You can't upgrade weapons unless you have these.)the four things i enjoyed about ff8 is seeing Quistis's opening, Quistis machine gun scene, Quistis in the ending credits, and Squall's limit break Lionheart. Those are the only four things I like about ff8 and nothing else about it.

You have an inbred chocobo for your avatar...lolI like FF VIII myself. I have both the PS and PC Versions.
Edit: Check out Gamespot's review of FF VIII, they had a lot of good things to say about it - the Playstation version, that is.
I do not like FFVIII. The other thread on this board about the game states why I hate it so I'll just say I hate the drawing system, the characters were forgetable besides Squall and Rinoa and the junction sydtem made the game either too easy or too hard. I prefer Vi, VII and IX over FFVIII. However, I did like the graphics and soundtrack a lot plus the opening was awesome. This is just my opinion.
FFVIII was good. Nowhere near my favorite FF, yet nowhere near my least favorite FF. The game play was unique, I loved the GF system, and the GF's themselves, doing the optiional stuff was entertaining, the game had some good music, had interesting characters, an okay plot...
[QUOTE="K1LLR3175"]I did not like the main character. Other than that the game was pretty good.Amnesiac23I liked Squall alright, although he isn't my favorite by any means. Squall is the best character in the ff series because you can actually TELL he is not a woman for sure.
I really enjoyed FF8 and I enjoyed the junction system. However, I felt the junction system was sort of easy mode. Once you found a great spell to increase your stats you would just grind until you have 99 or whatever the max was. I felt as if I wasn't challenged for the majority (and quite possible the entirety) of the game.
I thought the side card game was amazingly fun!
PS. I'm really not that good at games either, haha.
dint like the characters... or the fact that u had 2 draw magic from certain locations if u wantd it
FF8 is a great gameI know some people didn't like it and it was always cheap at Gamestop but I think FF8 rocks
I enjoyed playing through FF8, but in retrospect there were definitely a few things that I didn't like. To be honest, I thought Squall was a tool most of the time. He was so over-the-top stoic early on, and it seemed weird when he suddenly cared at the end. He had a cool weapon though. I was compelled by the story as I was playing through the game, but in the end I felt like it didn't deliver as much as it could have. My favorite parts in the game ended up being the segments where you played through as Laguna; that was cool, even if you are completely clueless as to why you've changed characters at first. I wasn't a fan of the whole monsters leveling up with you aspect, especially since I killed every single random encounter and made it to the end of the game before someone told me about it.
All in all, it was a good game, just not my favorite of the FF's. I wouldn't even say it was sub-par for the series, there are just some other games that tend to "draw" more love from fans.
Drawing and the card battles.siLVURcross
I agree with the drawing, it got irritating real fast but the card game was awesome and the best minigame in any FF in my opinion closely followed by FFIX's card game.

Bullskee... Laguna is NOT Squall's father. No where in the game does it say that. their last names are Loire and Leonheart.
just thought i should clear that up...
oh, and FF8 is my favorate in the PS1 series. though, I think FFX is the best so far. I liked the characters, the story, the battle and junction systems, the draw system. and the fact that enemies levelled as you did so, unless you had 100 death junctioned to your weapon for instant death on most any enemy, the game faily challenging with out ever being frustrating. I also liked the weapon upgrades and the way you could learn new limit breaks through magazines. and that you could pass an exam to affect your pay in game so you ewre ranked and paid accordingly, got rid of that grind for Gil nightmare from other FF games. Also, the way Summons(GF's) were used in game was brilliant. I liked havnig that extra power by bashing the Square button and how you could level them to make them stronger. plus there was loads of them too, like 4 different Bahamut summons, lol.
FF8 is lot's of fun and challenging to this day. it may not look the best and have a clumsy love story, but it's still a solid title. I really don't get the way people rant against it....
Laguna is Squall's father... it isn't explicitly stated, if I'm not mistaken, but it is very strongly implied. He was with Raine, and then she had a baby after he left to go after Ellone. If you see them both using the Gunblade, they use the same animations... it's been a while, someone else can explain it a lot better than me, but he is Squall's father
I'm gonna have to play it again it seems, just the excuse i need... lol. I've played it through loads of times, but never felt that it was implies at all. perhaps my memory is foggy, haven't actually played it in years. We shall see sir... :PLaguna is Squall's father... it isn't explicitly stated, if I'm not mistaken, but it is very strongly implied.
