First of all I hate FPS because it's purely dumb games. No strategy in actions games (except few games like, Brothers in Arms series). RTS games fully rely on player's strategic ability. If player is as dumb as a 3rd standard student, RTS will punish him brutally. Play strategically and RTS will reward with satisfactory wins.

I like building up from scratch, watching everything come to place, then pwn everyone. I would recommend Rise of Nations. That's what got me into RTS's, you should definitely check it out.

The only RTS I really got hooked on was Star Wars Battlegrounds, and many don't even think it's a very good RTS. I loved it though. Mostly for the level creator, and the Star Wars theme.

Well for me at least, I like them cause it makes me think more on to how to proceed with the game when i have multiple options.

I really like how World In Conflict dose it, i played many hours in Mutiplayer

I also like the ability to make my own battles with tons of troops and see how they would fight.( Age of Empires is a classic in that field.)

It a change from all these easy playable game and shooters.

I like strategy games but I don't have the patience for any turn-based games so that leaves me with RTS games

Not much of an RTS fan, I much more prefer strategy games which actually involve strategy (turn-based strategy). However, I love Relic games. Homeworld 2 is one of my all-time favorites and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War and Company of Heroes are great as well. I find Relic's games different because they're more than just mindless clickfests like the vast majority of RTS games. Also, they're highly atmospheric and immersive.

I like them because there is a real sense of acheivement. You start off with nothing...spend time collecting resources (most of the time), then you biuld a base..whilst simultaniously making enough units to defend the infant base from any would-be attackers. You gain strength and battle for control of the key points on the map. Eventually you launch an assault and take the enemy base...and the match. Its awesome... I feel like a General when I make a plan and it all comes together.

I don't know, I just like them. It has the addictive nature that I can't really explain. Basically, either you'll like them or hate them. If you're a impatient gamer and wants things done quickly, you'll probably not enjoy them. But if you're the type that loves strategy and fierce competition and have the patience, then you'll love them. I loved RTSs ever since Starcraft. I recommend that to anyone who wants to try out a RTS. Then I moved on to Age of Mythology which complexes things a bit more. And then there is Company of Heroes, which is totally different. All are good.

If the developers make the game right with balanced units and factions then it relies on a perfect mix of strategy, quick twitch movements, and fast thinking of what to do next on the fly with no room for error. That is what attracts me towards RTS's

Haven't been too involve with the RTS genre for a while(the last RTS game I played was Warcraft 3 and LOTR: BFME 2), but I like the sense of power and control over an army. Also I love big scale battles.

The RTS genre is definitely my favorite because of how satisfying it is to make some sort of plan- start building up to work with said plan- and than seeing how well it works. In RTS games like Starcraft- it's incredibly satisfying to do the right moves and use the right units- at the right time.

The exact same thing is what makes turn-based strategy games enjoyable for me as well- the primary difference being that the emphasis is much more on planning your tactics out- while RTS titles depend more on unit balance.

Its just satisfying to be the Commander for once and have people do the fighting for you while you look at the "bigger" picture. Its a nice change of pace from "THE WORLD IS DOOMED UNLESS YOU, YES ONLY YOU, ASSAULT THE ENEMY FORTRESS SINGLE-HANDEDLY (cough* FPS *cough*) WHILE THE REST OF US PRETEND TO DO SOMETHING IMPORTANT!"

You're joking, aren't you? :) RTS games in console? It will fail miserably - how could you replace mouse and keyboard with controller.

Look at this:

And answer me: What kind of mad, depraved, conservative person happens to be so unfortunate he misses out on that?

I came in here to say how great Medieval 2: Total War is, but the guy above me beat me to it.

Case in point, Medieval 2 is one of the best games out there, with epic battles and a campaign that lasts as long and is more replayable than anything else out there.

I have played Rome : Total War but Medieval 2 takes the cake from it.

I've to buy it, perhaps Empire : Total war will reduce M2 price in Steam. :)
