Hi everyone,
I'm currently writing my dissertation on games and the impact they have on the world.
I want to ask a short question about why you play video games and why? Do you play often?
Thank you so much in advance,
Se5fy,
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I play a wide variety of games, but my favorites are probably racing, fighting, and adventure/platformer games. I used to play often, probably 1-2 hours a day. Now that I'm a dad though, it's probably more like 2-3 hours a week. I hope to play games with my children when they get older, so playtime may go up again in a few years.
Hope this helps. I'll post more if I think of it. Good luck with your research.
I love gaming as it allows me to play as another person (with and without special abilities). A game is like a story book but its also challenging and require effort to keep moving forward and personally I choose maximum difficulty settings so it requires real skill to complete.
Online multiplayer competitive is amazing as it require strategy and team work as well map knowledge and being accurate (shooters as example).
Gaming is simply amazing and Im glad gaming industry keeps getting better and better over time
@ser5fy:
why you play video games
Because the ones I like are fun

and why?
. . Exact same question, but my guess is you're asking for deeper details?
To me "fun" in games is (firstly) the mechanical depth/ interesting variety of gameplay/ input-animation fluidity. Often if a game doesn't let me play my own way and experiment, and flow nicely? I abandon continuation. Nothing is worse than a movie disguised as a game, when I hear someone tell me "but the story is good" in a game, I cringe. Games are. . well, games. If it fails in that area I have no interest giving it the time of day.
(secondly) Complex and well done level design for me is a huge add towards a games appeal, and if done right fits in with (firstly). Well made maps change gameplay possibilities and can even act as puzzles, which I absolutely love.
(thirdly) Atmosphere, I usually take and leave this option in many cases, but it's an extra layer that I really enjoy if done just right, if a game is purely eye-candy I'm underwhelmed, yet if added ontop the first two? That's a fantastic combination!

Do you play often?
I try as much as I can, I work roughly 36 hours a week and spend 10 hours travelling also in those work weeks (which sometimes I portable game while doing). However I'm one of those people that will take a day-off for a games release of interest (example- I'm off on the 13th to complete TEW2 on its launch date :P)
Not sure if I was helpful; however best of luck.
To escape reality. Being active in a game also seems to work better than simply watching a movie since interaction is involved. I can honestly say if I had a really good life, I wouldn't play video games much, if at all. (There was a short period in my life where this was the case)
Escapism. The interactive element is much more immersive and dynamic than reading a book or watching a show. There is also a social element with my friends.
Games, first or all, are more than just entertainment! They keep our brains active and alert, now, do i need to give more reason? seriously! Many of my friends don't play games, they call it a waste of time... but i feel its just 'to each his own' kind of thing.
I like to play casual games but my friends who're into console games feel my games are not really the kinds they would like to play! it's just every mood has a different game, like every mood has a different song! I'm not a Serious gaming person but i enjoy gaming, at the end of the day that should matter, not the expertise. :) It should make you feel good from inside, and games do that to me.
It's literally like forgetting the world. Which is bliss.
Mainly for Entertainment, especially during commute and before going to sleep. But for my second reason it's for being competitive at something like in MOBAs where you get stronger the more you practice and having that satisfying feeling of beating an enemy in a close match.
I play mostly to do "cool" things. That's the reason I play so many Musou games. They are super easy, and you have a lot of characters with such cool moves.
The reasons why I play videogames is because it is fun, it helps me escape reality from the time being, it is considered a stress-reliever and it can make my body relax when I get home from school. Aside from those things, it helped me to not become a rebel teenager despite the family problems that I've been through in the past. It also changed my life in some ways, for better or for worse in the eyes of the others.
I don't think I should quit playing videogames as it defined the person that I am today.
