Why doesn't Rockstar add better content for GTA online?

They cared a lot about it at the beginning to the point of scrapping DLC for the main story (which could have been great) and constantly adding new stuff. I've had the game on PS3 and now PS4. I played online for probably a year straight on PS3 and haven't so much on PS4. Mostly because I've done it all 1000 times now, but was so excited with the Heists that this was the next "big" thing online. It was awesome to see that long time rumor of online heists become reality.

Although they continuously add versus modes/capture missions (both of which are pretty lame in my opinion) and sort of frequently update vehicles and such, why not add more content that actually draws players in? I get it, the game is going on 3 years old this year. But still, the PS4/Xbox/PC versions are barely a year old. With how popular the online mode is/was and the fact that GTA generally has only a title or two per decade, I don't get why they wouldn't add more missions, heists, etc. that keep players coming back. I know players who didn't play on PS3 and only got the game for heists. Now in my opinion, GTA online has a lot more to offer than just heists, but my point is I think Rockstar lost a LOT of the community shortly after they played through all the heists. Not that I'm just asking for these, but it's now going on a year since they've had more. Even more missions would be nice, as most of those have been around since the game (online) came out. It just is disappointing to see such a unique online experience that was great (before everyone got sick of it). It definitely hasn't lived out its lifespan if Rockstar added new content and more than just throwing a new deathmatch or car in every other month.

@amyh7292: they're probably working on something bigger for the game. All of these smaller updates are probably just to keep people playing while they finish up their DLC. Remember that GTA 4 expansions didn't come till the year after the main game. Since this one had both a remaster and an online mode to maintain, you gotta give Rockstar a bit more space

@mastermetal777: I hear you, but I don't think these mini updates ARE keeping people playing. The community is dead right now. I'm not asking for a set of heists every other month, but they've been out for a year in March. I don't think it's crazy to expect another set sometime very soon. The rest of the year after the heists has been awful. Without bigger, new content it's the same thing over and over again. And this map isn't really big enough where that doesn't get old extremely fast. For people like me who have had the game on two systems since day 1, I've just noticed that a lot less effort on keeping it "fresh". I mean I just fired it up after not playing since the Heist x2 money this summer and couldn't believe how little has been added. Just give us some more missions and what not while making the heists/bigger content updates. They can't expect people to stick around for new death matches and freeplay contests like lets see who can reverse the longest. A few years ago, every couple of months if I hadn't played in a while I would be impressed by how much had changed in a good way. I get that eventually it's going to lose steam, but their recent updates have just been pathetic. They have such a good thing going and online has just gotten so lame since last spring

Fairly certain they've added at the very least 10 more missions along with the other content in their updates such a freeroam events, versus missions, tools for others to make their own "Maps" after they released the ability to do Heists.

Along with weaponry, vehicles, clothing, Own Yacths, 8 Lamar missions etc.

So I don't know what kind of huge update you're hoping for or how Rockstar isn't providing updates to keep people playing.

I still hold a very small amount of hope that there'll be some single player DLC coming... one can hope anyway :(

The reason for these tiny updates and minimal additions is because they aren't getting paid for the DLC as much as other franchises (Activision, Ubisoft, EA) This makes it so the game developers don't really have to work as hard. In addition, they are in the process of working on a new title. However, the name of the game or the story is unknown.

@grindallday24: If they're working on a new game it won't come out for at least 2-3 years based on their past trends. Not to mention, the game is technically only a year (less) old on PS4/XBOX 1. So this doesn't really excuse how little has come out in the past year to keep people playing in the grand scheme of things. Yes, there are missions here and there and what not, but no one is really on to play them because none of it is really that remarkable. And idk how often others who commented play, but trust me the community is dead compared to how it was a year/two years ago. It's nearly impossible to get a team together for anything, and I'm lv 150 so generally people would want to do missions with me. Almost no one higher level (meaning veteran players) play anymore. Most of the people online are low level so obviously are just getting into it. I would gladly pay for GTA DLC heists. As would almost everyone I know that I play online with. But if you're going to rerelease a game, then treat it like its new, otherwise why release it on new gen at all? I get it, people are probably moving on and playing other things. But to pay $60 for a two year old game rerelease, why not put a little more content online and move with your players to next gen. It's more just disappointing. I loved GTA online and I feel its dying out a lot sooner than it could have made it

I agree with you, I would pay for DLC on that game. I think they focused too much on remastering the game for next gen and PC rather than perfecting new game modes and extras

@grindallday24: All my gaming friends over the summer were talking while playing GTA online about how all of us would pay for more heists. Isn't it ironic that great games can have free DLC and shitty ones generally have paid? Rockstar, although I've bitched in this thread, hasn't asked for a single penny from players. I would easily shell out $50 throughout the past few years for larger scale DLC to keep the game alive a couple more years

Maybe they feel it wouldn't be the best choice to spend their resources on that?

It's a tough position. You could add content but you take away from other titles in production. You could hire out but then you risk having content not up to their standards.

I've played it since launch and across both systems as well. At level 220+, I've also seen just about all the game had to offer. I haven't spent a lot of time with it in the last 6 months- I popped in for the Lowrider update and spent some time on it after the Executives and Other Criminals update, but Lamar's missions were a pain in the ass and didn't even pay well(which was especially annoying since they actually had cutscenes), and the E&OC missions require an actual team, and all my friends are pretty much bored of it, too.

I'll log in during the Valentine's update to buy any cool stuff they may add, but I'm inching toward being totally done with the game every day.
