-Edit: Overruling points I consider invalid by my own reason.

The Final Fantasy fanbase and general games above FF13 are horrid.

And Square Enix is honestly bad.

Look at EA, the target of all hatred.

>They rush a game with a popular title to get money and then release DLCs, spin-offs and pointless sequels with bad endings, whilst delaying important expected sequels/games.

Look at Square Enix, the god of all jRPG gamers

>They rush a Final Fantasy title with no inspiration at all to release pointless sequels and spin-offs (FF13-2, LR:FF13) just to get money off the players. delaying more wanted games like Just Cause.

My second point, is that the Square Enix (and most likely Final Fantasy) fanbase doesn't care for the game, as they simply buy it for it contains "Final Fantasy" in it.

Evidence?

Have you ever seen the FFXV facebook page by Square Enix?

Many people just went

"DIDNT READ ANY OF IT; RELEASE DATE NOW" -Square Enix Fanboy

As you can see, they only care for WHEN and HOW (much) and not WHAT.

FF fans are gullible and buy any game that contains Final Fantasy in it.

If they had released Final Fantasy XIII and it had contained another name, it would've been given a 6/10 by many reviewers.

These are my reasons to hate Square Enix and the Final Fantasy franchise.

They also have a UNIQUE TALENT to RUIN a VERY GOOD PLOT in less than 3 HOURS of GAMEPLAY.

I didn't even bother playing last gen Final Fantasy games. I thought the series started going downhill right after IX (my favourite in the series).

As for the fanbase I don't give a crap. I like my games and other people like theirs. I see the positive side to it and that is I can focus on other games or series that I haven't tried yet.

Whether you like FFXIII or not, it wasn't rushed. It had almost five years of development and wasn't released until 3 years after announcement. I'm kind of in the middle on the game, it had a fun battle system but the story was not very good and overall it got repetitive. Too bad each of the sequels got worse.

@Eikichi-Onizuka: While FF13 took 5 years, if you read closely you'll see I mentioned FF13-2 and 13-3 (Lightning Returns).

These barely took 2 years to make.

@skelly34: You've really missed out, then.

@phantomessence: I think the fact of the matter is that years ago Squaresoft made RPG games almost exclusively, but nowadays they are working with lots of different kinds of games and aren't actively pursuing the same demographic.

The Final Fantasy brand means different things to different people, and everyone is probably more attached to specific games in the series than they are the series at large. Apparently the developers themselves have a different idea of what FF is. But I'l still appreciate it for the games I liked in the series.

SE as a developer has had some success with different kinds of games in recent years. A lot of people are pleased with their work on the newer Deus Ex games, and Tomb Raider. I think for JRPG fans like myself, SE is simply no longer the leader in that field. That crown probably goes to Atlus, or Intelligent Systems, or some other company like that.

@Ovirew:

Square Enix didn't develope those games..... hell I'l even go as far as saying they didn't publish them either...... I think Eidos does the actual work and Squeenix puts their logo on it when they are done...... they just happen to own the publisher who owns the actuall studio that makes those games...... kinda like 2K and Rockstar.

Square Enix literally knows didly squat about developing anything that isn't an RPG...... they're not a bad publisher though.... despite what happened to Air Tight Games.

Edit: my bad...... its Take Two.... not 2K...... but 2K is own by atake Two aswell so it all adds up.

I'm a fan of the old FF just as the XIII trilogy. I liked them, shocking I know but they had little problems here and there like frame rate drop. I found the side quests to be boring but so was it in FFXII.

DLC for XIII-2and Lightning Returns were that great nor that bad, they were very useless.

I still find EA, Ubisoft, Activision and Capcom to be really bad

The series was good (except for 8) up until 10.

10 was the last great traditional FF I've played. Then comes 11, 12, and 13, games that aren't high on my list for best FF.

14 is something I wouldn't count as a traditional FF, but it's one of my favorites now. I still would have called it Final Fantasy Online 2 or something like that, same with FFXI, which should have been called Final Fantasy Online.

In any case, I don't buy any FF title. It has to be a good FF game for me to go "Yeah, I'm interested." Playing the FFXV demo briefly, I can say that I'm not interested in it. In fact, I'm waiting for the day when they go back old-school for the modern age.

Lol, how long do you think game development should take? Games are expensive to make. It's hard to make a profit if it takes longer than 2 years to make a game, sans the massive AAA games that the publishers know will sell.

As you can see, Square Enix is practicaly EA, only that nobody actually noticed.

You think Crisis Core is a terrible and pointless sequel with a bad ending? Holy hell. I can't even..

Also newsflash, Advent Children isn't even a game lol, it's a freaking movie. This is like 2010 all over again, and all your arguments practically utilize FFX13 installments, because that's about as far as they stand.

Also, where's the rush? The gap between XIII and XV all took an entire generation between each other... building up on a Final Fantasy is using the same engine with more improvements and further story-telling is all. That's not money-milking as each game takes a full-on game time with plenty of content and plot. Spin-offs are made for people interested. If you think it's a scam (lol), don't fall into it, and simply don't buy them

Development between actual installments takes years to achieve now, sometimes even an entire generation with entirely new engines.

Protip: SE bashing was cool 5 years ago back when FFXIII came out, and SE moved on from FFXIII. You should, like some users suggested, do so too.

Pro-pro tip: start playing other Final Fantasy installments, such as X and VII (you clearly haven't if you think CC is pointless), IX, XII, VII, etc.

Squeenix hasn't made a game in the past 10 years that has been worth my money. They are no longer good developers as far as I'm concerned, thus I don't buy squeenix games (though I made 1 exception with Deus Ex: HR).

Mirror's Edge is not "important" nor "expected". It has a small dedicated fanbase (including myself), which is enough to greenlight a sequel, but not to make it a priority. It sucks, but that's how it works.

@fize4ever: must've mixed them up, I wouldn't put CC of AvC in that list.

btw spare the Moron part.

My unconditional point is the FF13 game series. **** those.

I've played Final Fantasies before FFVII. In the DS ones, the only disadvantage was the DS performance. Can't blame that on anyone can't I? Except maybe nintendo.

FFIV, and FF (dont remember the number Vaan was in) were (imo) good games between them all.

I lost all faith for Square Enix the moment I concluded FF13 with 20 hours of gameplay (basically 1/3rd of the total gameplay).

FFXIV is better because of ARR, if they hadn't done that FFXIV would've probably failed.

And I get annoyed by FFXV fearing it will end up like FF13

That is true. I find X not to be bad but I would like it more if it was ATB and not turn base.

The problem with the current final fantasy games is that each game is focusing on be action pack. This just ruins the fun that the older games had.

I like Square and I like Final Fantasy. 14 is great, 13 wasn't that great, 12 was a mixed bag, never played 11, 10 was great, 9, and before were all great. So they had a meh trilogy with 13 and a mixed bag with 12 even though it gets a lot of love, I don't call that a bad track record. I'm hoping 15 brings it back and type0 HD is apparently pretty good too. Just my opinion though. BTW, I don't blindly buy all FF games. They have to be good to get my money.

I never really cared much for Final Fantasy in the first place, and, from what i've experienced, these claims about the game seem pretty valid. As for the fan base, it really doesn't bother me if people want to throw their money away on a bad game. There are people that will buy every game in a series regardless of what they hear about it, and, while I may think it's a pretty poor move, it's their money after all

I don't know... I think I've seen SE catch a lot of flack over the direction they took the series in. You're going to have your die-hards regardless of the company/franchise. If you only pay attention to what they're saying, of course it's going to seem like one company gets it (EA) while the other doesn't (SE).

Well, yeah, everybody agrees that XIII is shit. :P

But other games and SE as whole is great, it's just the selection of Fabula Nova Crystallis series is a poor one, sadly when SE picks a world it sticks with it till the project's done. :(

It's commendable though, because THAT'S commitment if I've ever seen one! Besides, it wasn't all bad (e.g Agito), but yes, overall, you're right! FFXIII will forever be a black mark on SE's history. It's still good though that when they make a game, they stick with its world til finish. That way, when they make a sequel you like, you can be sure to see a lot more of where it came from.

Sorry I said that word, I removed it, and I really apologize, I just snapped because you're lumping things like VII with 13, VII is a good example of an FF done right all around (some say it is the best example). Especially Crisis Core. Many people, including me, consider Crisis Core as the epitome of VII, and better than the main game! Advent Children was just a movie so you can see what happens after they defeat Sephiroth and save the world. Like I said, build ups are fine, and they don't milk (look at other companies, like Capcom with Street Fighter, then tell me SE milks haha), they just continue on the story for fans of the game.

XIV and XI are MMO installments, so they're not done by the main team, that's why we probably shouldn't lump them with other FFs. As for XV, I've been following that game since 2008, and trust me when I say this: it's going to be great. It will be nothing like XIII, so don't worry about that.

What I am getting from the TC is:

-FF games are bad because you did not like the game style.

-Square Enix does not care about quality as stated in the previous point.

-Square Enix's fanbase is bad because they do not care about quality stated in the previous point.

This is a weak argument without much substance.

Not true. FF XIII-2, Lightning Returns and Type 0 were not big sellers, but only had moderate sales success. And they all received somewhat mixed reviews, and even Type 0 didn't get great reviews, despite reviewers acknowledging it to be the best FF game in almost a decade.

Fans are only so hyped over FF XV. Why? Because they've been waiting a long time for it, ever since it was called Versus XIII... since 2006... That's nine years of waiting! The game has been through development hell, and almost became vaporware. And now that it's been revived as FFXV, there's a lot of hype and anticipation over it.

DISCLAIMER: I'm NOT saying every Square Enix, Final Fantasy fan etc are all the same, behave the same or think the same.

And no, I also hate Square Enix because after ****'ing up with Final Fantasy XIII they had the balls to go there and blame it on the Game Engine. I really don't see how the Game Engine makes the story more/less repetitive. (I saw an interview but forgot the source)

@BranKetra Also no, I said the Fanbase is gullible because after seeing how they don't even care about what is IN the game and only about the franchise title it has... well. Also no, while I said I didn't personally liked them I also said that I generally think as a fact the Final Fantasy series have been going worse.

@Jag85 Check the USER reviews. I honestly think game journalism barely rates non-visual components. Despite it is still a factor in reviews. And I can understand they're hyped up after 9 years of waiting. Only thing I can't accept is "BEST GAME MAKERS EVER", "BEST FRANCHISE ALL TIME" and all of those.

@fize4ever I've played many FF games and it never came to my mind to say anything bad about them. However though I had faith in Square Enix after bringing me good games like The World Ends With You, Just Cause 2, and other games that, tbh are pretty decent. Then I played Final Fantasy XIII (specially called my attention because 1) My comp could run it 2) PC version). Before this comes to topic, no, I didn't rate FF13 based on it's HORRIBLE (accept it) port to PC.The story was bad, and there were no human antagonists. Also I must say the scenes with Snow and Serah felt like a Soap Opera, the summons felt like watching Transformers and many other things.

FFXIV is somewhat good (haven't played it; don't intend to. Don't like MMORPGs) thanks to ARR, without ARR (I think everybody knows but; A Realm Reborn) it wouldn't have improved a bit.

I seriously.

Seriously.

Didn't want to hate on Square Enix. But after the good taste the FF Franchise left me and playing the FIFTY FUCKING EIGHT GIGABITES of Final Fantasy 13, I lost all faith.

If they do not care then gullibility is a different issue.

Basically, you are using your disapproval of a video game franchise to claim intellectual superiority over other people. You might not realize it, but it does not appear, specifically, thought provoking.

Fair enough, although I disagree with your opinion. By my estimation, disregarding the MMOs and the XIII series of titles, every mainline Final Fantasy has been a fantastic example of what a decent JRPG should aspire to. FFIV, VI, VII, IX, X, and XII are some of my favorite games of all time, bar none. To top it all off, the XV demo was good fun.

I find that a lot of people (not all, mind you) who are immediately dismissive of recent entries in the Final Fantasy series (anything post-FFX, essentially) are either JRPG purists and want zero change from their comfort zone of randomized turn-based battles, or never really cared for the genre in the first place.

Edit: I'll concede that the fanbase, or the vocal minority of said group, can be irritating. However, I'd say that's true of the fanatical followers of any series from Half Life to Pokemon.

The average user scores aren't that great either, ranging from 5 to 8 out of 10 for modern FF games. Most FF fans are usually critical or skeptical of Square Enix and modern FF games, more so than most other fanbases. If anything, it's become a popular trend among FF fans to bash Square Enix, for failing to live up to Squaresoft's standards and ruining the FF franchise. You've got it the wrong way around. The only modern FF game that most FF fans even give a damn about is FFXV.

@Assassin_87: Read the first 3 lines of the post.

"The Final Fantasy fanbase and general games above FF13 are horrid."

and this one too

"DISCLAIMER: I'm NOT saying every Square Enix, Final Fantasy fan etc are all the same, behave the same or think the same."

Don't bring previous FFs into this.

@BranKetra I said they are gullible about the game franchise. When did I say I was intellectualy superior? It's just my opinion about XIII+ above games. After playing I feel in my right of giving my opinion.

@phantomessence: So you hate SE and hold a lot of FF fans in contempt because of XIII and the games that followed? That's even more stupid than the initial premise I had gleaned from reading the OP.

Also, not sure what you're adding on the disclaimer for. I essentially just agreed with you on that so quoting yourself there is irrelevant, unless you just assumed I was showing up to comment with the typical "I'm not like them" mentality. Basically, I never implied that you said the whole fanbase was terrible.

I don't see how hating a company for fucking up my hopes and my likes to it and saying based on many comments (perhaps a minory of) the fan base is gullible is "stupid".

I played XIII and I have my right to say it's bullcrap.

You seem to have implied that when you said you dislike certain Final Fantasy titles and because a single user said something, they are all easily tricked or fooled into buying something. Saying someone is gullible implies a certain kind of authority on matters requiring thought or intellectualism. Perhaps you did not realize that, but that is definitely how your message appears.

@BranKetra: Not sure if you got that context right.

If you did, very well understand it this way.

Some of the Final Fantasy fans which I must say are more than one merely want Final Fantasy because the game IS a Final Fantasy, not because the actual storyline, characters, graphics, gameplay, or any other aspect of the game.

Based on what you are saying, I am not noticing a connection between a lack of interest of game qualities and a status of gullible. I suggest you reevaluate your disagreement and find exactly what it is that you find as an incorrect approach to consumerism, represented by these fans of Final Fantasy which you are referring to at this time.
