I find it astounding how games are still tarnished with the same nerdy stereotype.

How come in society why is it nerdy to say 'I'm playing the xbox' but to say 'I'm watching a movie' is perfectly acceptable.

When will be gaming become an equally respected medium of media consumption?

Also, I always get the impression that it's a big no no with most girls. It's odd. Surely we should be embracing these technological advances and enjoying these immersive experiences which are far more user interactive than movies yet are still a kind of 'guilty pleasure'.

You're still thinking like that little kid in school who sits in the corner and does nothing but draw comics, doesn't talk, and plays games at home all day. I think it's not like that anymore. I think the social stereotype is gone now because of the Hollywood and cultural influence games are getting lately. Celebrity's play them, casuals play them, Madden, Call of Duty, and Halo are part of our culture now. For example, my cousins live far away and it's hard to meet them often, but we always stay in touch now because of XBOX Live. And I admit, my cousins aren't really hardcore like me. They don't care about Bionic Commando Rearmed, Japanese RPGs, or niche games like Disgaea or World of Goo. But they're hardcore Call of Duty and Madden players, and they're real good, better than me. My brother too. He doesn't care about Final Fantasy but we play all the time online. My point is, that stereotype is gone now. It may exist for some people because those people think that games are still nerdy. But mainstream-wise, I don't see it anymore. Games have come a long way. We have award shows with Samuel L. Jackson and Jack Black hosting. And we all know Samuel L. Jackson is cool.

Eh... I could write something but I'm going to requote this for emphasis because it's true.

I wouldn't say that the stereotype really exists anymore. Games have become too mainstream for it to continue to exist. Even women, who were probably the last stronghold of "games are for children and losers", have now begun to embrace gaming with the Wii. Given another 10 years max (probably more like five) I think video games are going to be on par with movies, television, and music.

I'd say it's not, really, anymore.

Thanks to the Sims, World of Warcraft and the Wii games have gone almost completely mainstream and I expect them to be every bit as common and popular as mainstream movies in about a decade.

Because society's anti-intellectual, and nerds tend to be pretty smart. Therefore, anything associated with nerds is crap.
