I'm a long time RE fan. I love the old RE games more than any other. In the old games it doesn't bother me that i can't move and aim. The style of game doesn't need you to move and aim in that way.

As for the new games, They aren't survival horror anymore, they're action games. So the game should control like an action game, but it doesn't. If Capcom wants to move the series away from it's survival horror roots they should go all the way with it.

As far as I remember you couldn't move and shoot in Dead Space either. Furthermore, I have to give a BIG WTF? to people saying they might not get RE5 because the controls weren't what they expected, which I've heard more than a few times. Seriously? Its RE5...that means its the FIFTH one, and thats just the main games. When has it ever controlled any differently? It's been alot worse because of the static cameras, but it's still been the same functionally.

How should an action game control? Anyways, it's not a problem for me; I'm fine with or without the current control scheme.

Less buttons to push. Less confusion in the middle of a firefight. Less mucking around with two different things when enemies are swarming all over. Need to back up? According to Capcom, this should be accomplished by letting go of your aim button, labouriously turning around and walking away at the speed of an arthritic grandma, and then hitting your aim button and slowly cranking your view back at the mob that was once surrounding you, only now they're maybe an extra foot away, letting you pop off six or seven shots, possibly taking down one dude if every shot landed on his noggin. Then you get to rinse and repeat the whole procedure, adding an extra step once and a while to pick up ammo.

RE4, 5 and Dead Space are survival horror, just not in the traditional sense. Most of the survival is limited inventory space, but all of them create a feeling of tension and uncertainty.

Actually the slow movement and the missing ability to make a side-jump totally destroy RE5 for me.It turns a great Game into a cheap "Maybe if it´s cheaper"-Title and just because of the Co-op.There´s absolutely no excuse for this. It´s not like the Demo was no fun,but I yelled half of the Time at the TV because of the horrible controls. It almost feels like it´s Capcoms first game...

I completely agree. I still prefer the older games over 4 and 5. If they're going to make Resident Evil an action game instead of survival horror then they need to go all the way. When you look at it in comparison with other action shooters there are some broken gameplay mechanics.

I also agree.

It's fine if you can't move and shoot at the same time if it's like RE1-3. But in RE4 and 5, not anymore.

RE4 became an action-shooter instead of survival-horror. The real survival horror in the RE series are all REs before 4.

People are pissed off at the controls because the character you play as is a trained cop or whatever and he doesn't control like one in the least. He's stiff, he's missing very basic manuevers for survival and he can't walk and shoot at the same time. Plus with the invention of analog controls, pressing a button to run no longer flies. This isn't the PS1 days prior to dual shock controls.

Yeah, you can move and shoot in Dead Space. You can even move and reload in Dead Space. You can also heal without ever having to open your inventory or worrying whether or not your hotkey may have changed functions on you.

The issue here is not entirely RE, because I agree that RE is for the most part as it always has been - and this is partly the problem. Mostly it's that gameplay standards have changed and when you get right down to it, RE's controls, even in the PS days had many detractors. So if RE controls were clumsy to begin with, they're even worse now, and it's even more noticeable now. RE's controls make it a Ford Model T in an age of hot rods

I still want to play through RE5. I'm honestly more concerned with the storyline. If it's as ad-libbed as RE4, I might just skip the franchise altogether from now on. I loved the B-move stories of the originals...they at least had a degree of continuity. RE4 was more of a story-loaf

Because people want to move. Personally I didn't take notice of it in RE4. If things got hectic I would shoot down oncoming items or just run back a bit to regroup.

Because it mimics real controls, as if you were actually the person. I don't know about you, but I do believe I would be able to back pedal and shoot at the same time, though with decreased accuracy... I also believe I would be able to strafe in real life... Thus my complete disconnect with the RE series and why anyone would play them.

Because the way RE does it now is totally and completely absurd and flys in the face of all logic. If I lift my gun in the air my legs suddenly stop working?? Capcom is a f-------- stupid company who refuses to evolve. They CAN NOT get away from their arcade mentality that games have to be difficult and frustrating to be fun. Devil May Cry, RE, MegaMan, Monster Hunter could all be so much better if they just had better controls and easier difficulties. But no lets ---- with the movement and make the player needlessly die alot just so they feel like they have accomplished something when they beat the game, Then we dont have to focus on things like replay value, story, character customization/growth.

Because all games should basically play like FPS so we never have to put any effort into getting our heads around new controls.

Im not even sure why Resi5 controls like it does, I would have been happy with RE4 controls and not using the right analogue stick to look about.

I like having to stop an aim. Its one of the only thing thats left in the RE games that makes them RE games. Its not as suspenseful to just be able to easily take out enemies, but its really Capcoms fault for completely changing RE. I think they should have changed the name of this game to Biohazzard because it isnt really an RE game....

The RE franchise is a well respected series and has controls implemented that are pure signature trademark. Whether some people wanna claim that the series isn't in the survival horror genre anymore is their business, but I happen to think otherwise. In ALL RE games, the player in control was unable to move while shooting - this added to the survival horror element and was and still is, a good ingredient that shouldn't be removed or tweaked. In my personal opinion, having, in this case Chris Redfield, move while shooting, would do nothing but make the game seem similar to other 3rd person shooting franchises, and also shift the game a bit to the easy side of things. Not being able to move adds tension and makes things a little harder for the better. Anyone who attempts to quote my post and respond to it, shouldn't waste their time as I won't respond to whatever they have to say. Because frankly, I think people criticizing the series at this point because of the controls, is stupid.

How should an action game control? Anyways, it's not a problem for me; I'm fine with or without the current control scheme.

It should have smooth controls, a good aim system, the ability to aim and walk or strafe at the same time, and a free moving camera. A prime example would be MGS4. A game that somewhat shifted away from it's original format and Konami adjusted the controls accordingly. The new RE games don't cover any of the above mentioned characteristics. The controls overall feel clunky, the aim cursor is very slow even if you change the settings, you can't aim and strafe, and you have next to no control over the camera, you're just jammed into the left side of the screen. These are things that should be standard in a third person action game by now. It's 2009.

I've played the RE series since the beginning and I own Dead Space and I do find it quiet irritating the movement has been limited to standing still and shooting. So what makes me different from you hmmm? ;)

Oh I think somebody nailed the reason I was so irritated with the lack of movement in RE4. Bad guys would chuck things at you and you just had to stand there and get hit by it!!! Thats worse than not being able to move because you lifted your arms. Its like "Oooops I have my gun out i guess I will be unable to dodge that whirling knife that is flying very slowly at my face, oh well....atleast I have a plant in my pocket that will fix everything"
