I would have thought it is pretty obvious. As already mentioned:
They are (ie the Wii and DS) appealing to a far far wider market. The novel controls means everyone can play them and the games are aimed at more casual gamers too. If you think about it its shocking how many more different people the Wii can cater for compared to X360 and PS3 just because of the control method alone.
The price probably has a lotto do with it too. And the games arent the same price as other consoles. At least not PS3 ones. Not here in the UK. Unless im missing something.
Another reason is that it might have its faults but overall the Wii is a fantastic bit of technology. In my experience its not just a novelty ... it does what it does well and people know that and hence still go out to buy one.
Genia
Why? It´s easy:
1) It´s cheap.
2) It´s innovative.
3) it targets a wide public.
4) Nintendo games.
5) Retrocompatibility.
6) His competition did a lot of mistakes (XBOX got the RROD, PS3 his price, etc).
Disadvantages? The technology is a little old, and a lot of 3rd party WII games suck. That´s it.

Nintendo doesn't actually make games; the games assemble themselves out of fear.
Because Nintendo focused their attentiion on more than just the hardcore gamer, and looked at other groups of people too. The PS3 and 360 really only appeal to hardcore gamers, but the Wii on the other hand, appeals to hardcore gamers AND casual gamers. You won't find grandparents playing a 360 or PS3, and you can certainly bet many parents will want to buy their children Wii's. But there are still games for us long-time Nintendo fans and hardcore gamers, too, and not only in market, but on Wii's Virtual console, as well, with a huge library of older, classical games that, again, will appeal to the long-time Nintendo fans or people that just love retro games. I honestly don't think that Nintendo "turned their backs on us hardcore gamers" or whatever. As a hardore gamer, I still found alot of value from buying the Wii, and have not been disappointed...
But anyway, The Wii sells more because it appeals to more kinds of people, which results in more kinds of people spending their cash on the Wii. The Wii can be enjoyed by anyone, and even if you never gamed before, the Wii can still be played and enjoyed.
Nintendo turned there backs on hardcore gamers and sold out to casual audiences. It's not like I have a problem with the appealing to a wider audience, that's awesome don't get me wrong. It's that the system and the games are sub-par compared to the PS3 and the Xbox 360.mfacekYeah, Nintendo decided to blame its fans on GC's failure and decided to pretty much give up on us and try to take money from another audience. It's not our fault that Nintendo hasn't been as great as its SNES days.

BWAHAHAHAHA!! Good one.Nah, i figured it out, its because they are greedy, they want to make a console that would be easy to make but at the same time it would make alot of money. They propose motion remote, at first it was a biggy, but then people realized that's its completely pathetic, wish they bought other system instead. Nintendo officially left the gamers because we dont give them enough money, instead they went and target on people that has more money like PARENTS and People with Decent Jobs dont play often. They really dont deserve the money.
